I had the same reaction when we saw Wilf at the end. And I agree about crying each time we see Wilf cry. For me, his greatest dramatic moment (of which there were many) was in "Turn Left", when he and the patriarch of the Italian family exchange that look before the Italian family leave on the truck to the "labour" camp. The way a visibly upset Wilf says "Labour camps, that's what they called them last time..." as his eyes well up with tears is absolutely heartbreaking. And makes me cry each and every time.
People keep saying “the doctor can’t like men, he never has..”. The doctor comments all the time his personality and everything changes even though he has the same memories. What’s to say one doctor can’t be more fluid etc. I mean capaldi didn’t like to touch at all.
People seem to forget the whole Chaptain Jack referencing a fling with HIS Doctor.
I took it as 14 meant he's surprised he's so open about it, not that his preferences changed in that way.
I feel like the same with River, The Doctor wouldn't care if she happened to regenerate into a male body.
Also, 12 got more physically affectionate over time.
@@thelazygamer1639Same, both in this ep and the last he seemed caught off guard by his own openness.
I find it strange its mainly Gay men and homophones that think if a man says another man is attractive or hot he must be gay. As a straight guy that is confident about my sexuality I would not think twice thinking or saying it. To me he was just become less uptight about sharing is feelings.
And 10 and the Master had some serious they were more than friends overtones.
Love how the Not-Things, took full advantage of the Doctor’s need to give exposition. Also can’t express emotion within a high stress situation, like how fake Donna simply answers the Mrs bean question calmly.
RIP to Bernard Cribbins. If there is any character in the Whoniverse that is universally loved & adored, it’s Wilf ❤
Glad to see we’re seeing consequences of The Flux. I did not even think that the lack of stars might be due to The Flux, just that they were too far out to see starlight.
I wonder if the Mavity bit will keep going or if it’s just for this episode 😅
Georgia (David’s wife and his doctor’s daughter and also thr actual daughter of the 5th doctor) tweeted at Bernard Cribbins passing that they had named several of their kids in honor of him. One of their sons is named Wilfred.
Yes, one of their kids is named Wilfred, they're non-binary, and go by they/them which is important to mention so as to not misgender them.
The lack of star light wasn't due to Flux. It was due to light not reaching that location yet.
I also cried with sad joy when we saw Wilf again, for the final time. A glorious way to honour his legacy.
As to the Timeless Child concept - it feels to me like nu-Who’s version of the Cartmell Masterplan from Sylvester McCoy’s era - a way to bring mystery back to the character of the Doctor themselves.
"When something's gone, it keeps existing."
"We get hungry, don't we?"
"My arms are too long."
It was a great episode. I loved it, and David and Catherine such amazing acting
I think there was one Not-Thing before they got there; it needed time to split because there was two of them
If the TARDIS hadn't split, there would have been three.
This is a heart breaking episodes on many levels and ended in the traditional cliffhanger.
I always thought the Timeless Child was just a way for Chibnall to go, "So... having the finale for every final incarnation of the Doctor be the Time Lords giving him/her a new cycle is gonna get old real quick so let's just give the Doctor infinite regenerations"
The Timelords admitted (during Capaldi’s run) they didn’t know how many regenerations they gave Eleven implying he had been given much more than just one cycle. Moffat had already written in infinite regenerations. If Chibnall really did The Timeless Child for that reason, then that just makes it even more unpalatable for me. 😊
I had the same reaction with Wilfred
And so the "mavity" AU has begun. Sigh. Also, RIP Bernard Cribbens. I'm so glad they were able to get him even for just a little bit to be in this episode before he died. I love Wilf so much - and he was also a former companion, however short-lived his time traveling with the Doctor was.
That’s the only time we will see Wilf. He passed before the rest of the specials.
Timeless Child kind of makes the Doctor a victim to people who should have taken care of him/her as a child. Which is not necessarily a bad storyline. And there may be a lot of other people who have that ability somewhere too. It kind of says something about experimentation on people, I think.
I'm not a fan of the Timeless Child (well, I think the idea is perfectly fine except for the part where it's the Doctor, specifically), but I'd rather see the show deal with it than ignore it. Ignoring it would leave it feeling incomplete. Better to try to make something of it. Whether that is by revealing a deeper secret that the timeless child is actually someone else (along with a damn good readon why the Doctor was made to believe otherwise), or by doubling down on what's been revealed and leaning into the mystery of where the Doctor actually came from and why. The cheap twist doesn't have to be where the story ends.
Thanks, Derek! ⏳ Cheers to director Tom Kingsley.
Thank you for allowing me to see the majority of the movie uncut with little or No Interruption from you
The show is not on BBC America like it's supposed to be
Should be on Disney+ since they got the distribution rights
Yeah it's on Disney now. Which makes no sense
Gave me extreme midnight vibes. Shame it was all we will see from Wilf.
There's probably one shot we'll see of The Doctor wheeling Wilf into the TARDIS that's actually him, but after that it's a double.
Midnight with the absolute scariest episode since Blink.
