Busy day of kite-flying - part two: afternoon

- My 2,098th kite video. This was my second flight on this sunny autumn day in Christchurch, NZ. If you missed the first one, it's here: • Busy day of kite-flyin... .
Please note that the red white and black flowtails are from Spider Kites, not CIM - a careless mistake that I should not have made!
Anyone wanting to check out all my "How to..." videos on various aspects of kite-flying can now find them all easily on my Playlist at / jimskitesnz .
The tails of the flow tails hypnotize me just like when I see the flames of the fire in a fireplace. Minute 1.30 is magic in the air. Thanks, Jim.
The tails are certainly hypnotic, Fernando. The fabric they are made of is different to that of the kites and allows the maximum rippling effect.
Those trios of matching Flowtails look brilliant in the clear blue sky! So much colour & motion!
Thank you! Flowtails are hard to beat.
I learned everything i know about stacking from this gentleman.
Kind of you to say so, Amy. I hope things are warming up in your part of the world and you'll have a good flying season ahead.
WOW! A sky full of flowtails. What a great choice to fill the skies with. Just excellent.
I wanted to fly more, but left some of them behind when I left home.
Nice video Jim. Great looking display. You are the Flowtail staking king. Thanks Jim!
I wish I'd had more of my flowtails with me, Dewey, but maybe some other time.
I am amazed how well behaved they all are stacked like that.
Your location ( on shore, uninterrupted breeze) helps I'm sure, but still impressive Jim. Thanks
Yes, the on-shore breeze is always good, although the dunes cause some disturbance to the smooth air-flow which can't be helped. If we get the kites up high enough the wind is steadier, but we're limited by the proximity of the road and power lines just behind the dunes (some unfortunate experiences years ago taught us to be cautious).
What a full day of flying. The flow tail stacks always make a splendid showing. Loved the video filming.
Glad you enjoyed it, Carl. I wish I'd had at least one more stack with me, but maybe another time, if I don't wear out first.
You have the best stacked flowtail kites of the world. Excellent.
Thank you! I don't know about that, but I do have quite a few of them!
Flow tail king! Wonderful display!🪁🪁🪁🪁🪁
Thanks, Jim - I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Love some color in the sky!
Flowtails are certainly good for that, Evan.
I love the flow tails stacked Jim, Makes an awesome display. Ron
They do look good like that, Ron, and I'm glad you enjoyed them.
Love your excellent videos, and appreciate the regular content 👌
Thank you. As I'm now approaching my 84th birthday there may not be a lot more to come, but I'll try to carry on a bit longer.
First Flowtails black-white-red are from SPIDER-Kites, gullwing 1,90meters, tails 5 meters.
The next colourful train is from CiM, 2 meters gullwing and 6 meters tails. I fly them, too, my favorite kites, have more than 50 pieces flowtails.
Thank you for reminding me of that. It was careless of me to make that mistake. They are good kites, and you are clearly as keen on flowtails as I am!
@@JimNicholls A compliment from your mouth is a great honor for me. Compared to you, I'm a dilettante.
"I left in a hurry and had only a few kites"...That's funny. Looks like one of your most amazing displays ever. I must get some flowtails and fly them in a trio like yours. Nothing looks more "fluffy" and colorful in the sky!
I was hoping to fly probably another two stacks, and I've certainly flown more in the past - see: czcams.com/video/uT2kapZt08U/video.html . Now I'm getting old (83), I'll probably never reach that number again unless I get some help next time.
@@JimNicholls Great Googley-Moogley! That's a sky full of beautiful "fluffy" kites! I wish I could beam myself to your locale. I would watch for hours. (And/or help if you wanted). I find most of my friends "claim to like kites", but do not quite understand why a 54 y.o. man is out flying them at the local park. I like being outdoors. Cannot stand being inside unless evening, or inclement weather... I've heard it said "Growing old is mandatory, but growing up is optional, and I choose not to". I think that statement fits my way of thinking quite well...
@@haywire17 We seem to think alike. I could do with some help sometimes, but living here in Christchurch NZ I have few offers to assist. You have a lot more flying years ahead of you than I do, so I hope you have fun enjoying your hobby.
Me too!!!... would rather be outside...having fun!!...while I am a gardener as well..that's mostly work..but kite flying is fun!..
I was asked the other day, why are you flying kites?.. I told the person it's a hobby I've taken up in retirement...it gets you outside, makes myself, and many other people happy...the kites are beautiful to watch...WAY better than sitting at home watching TV..
He said..,"ya got me there, I think I need to go buy a kite"... lol
Flowtails and box kites all day long❤
They are hard to beat, Sheryl!
Lovely kites
Thank you, Jiang. I have a lot of those kites.
what a beautiful site...I love flow-tails, and most impressive flown in threes! How are you going to top this as you approach #3,000? Always a daily treat watching what you fly~ Many thanks, Jim. ~
Glad you enjoyed it, Mark. I still have a very long way to go to reach 3,000 (900+ more), and I am quite sure that I shall never get there.
@@JimNicholls Opps, my bad, better get my eyes checked! 2000, or 3000...your videos are awesome!
I never used to care overmuch for flowtails but they've grown on me, I think since watching your videos.
What would you recommend for a good flowtail as far as price to quality value that are still available?
I know I've seen your stacking video, will look it up again later today. I don't remember but did you include the double line style like in this video? Are they permanently tied together or did you incorporate some type of hooks?
There is a video about stacking the double-line kites: czcams.com/video/6tq-Y150zOs/video.htmlsi=F7eq2IqK7PRjkmBQ . I leave the lines attached, as I always fly the kites in threes. All the flowtails from Spider Kites and Colours In Motion are good (mine all came from Metropolis Drachen), and the Dashiki from In The Breeze is particularly good value (see: www.pictureprettykites.com/single-line-kites/77-dashiki-wave-delta/ ).
Hi Jim ... Just interested in your methods for making a train trio of flowtails. Looks like you have 2 lines joining each follow on kite, is this best for all flow tail kites ? Where and how are you connecting the lines ?
Just about to put together 3 flow monotail versions that have fabric keels, was thinking of just getting a single line running thro and connecting all 3 (sewing the line across the keel to maintain stability), should I add an extra line at the tip of the kite do you think
Love and avidly follow all your videos, know what a good job you do having tried to film mine !!
Nick, if you check my playlist: czcams.com/users/JimsKitesNZplaylists you will find several videos showing how to stack kites of different types. What you suggest with keeled kites sounds a good idea, and no, you don't need another line. The only time there are two lines is with deltas or flowtails that don't have a keel, as you'll see in one of the videos. Good to know you enjoy the videos. I'm trying to keep them coming, but I'm 83 now (nearer 84, actually), and slowing down a bit.
Wow ... instant response ! That's sort of what I thought and hoped for 🙂
Keep the videos coming, looking forward to something special at Video 3000 !
@@nickbryant7777 There won't be a 3000th, Nick - that's 900 away, and I won't be flying long enough to get even close to that, I'm sure. But there should be a few more yet.
Ha Ha ! just kiddin , but I know you will be flying as long as you can. Take Care
Hi Jim, good video 🎊, could you tell me how I can make a train of kites like the ones in your video? Thanks
Hi Luis. I've made two or three videos about that, and you'll find them in my playlist here: czcams.com/users/JimsKitesNZplaylists
@@JimNicholls Thanks 👍
