  • My 2,125th kite video. With bad weather meaning no kite-flying, I decided to make this video from old footage, showing how almost any kite that you have can be a "lifter" for items than can enhance your display.
    Anyone wanting to check out all my "How to..." videos on various aspects of kite-flying can now find them all easily on my Playlist at / jimskitesnz .

    A great encouragement video to show the enjoyment of lifting and displaying your "laundry items".

    Awesome spread Jim! And in just the right conditions, a Delta can be a great lifter❤

      True, Amy - a delta can be a good lifter, and so can many other kites. Experimenting with them adds to the fun of flying.

    I see you changed your channel name. No matter when the video was shot. I love the wide variety of kites and laundry. I cannot chose one that I like better than an another one.

      I'm glad you enjoyed it, Jim. Unfortunately, our winter weather is not cooperating much at the moment, so I don't know when I shall fly next.

    A wonderful compilation showing lifter kites, big and small. Learnt that any kite that can lift other kites or objects is a lifter kite 👍👍
    You updated channel name is more descriptive. Easier for new viewers to find your channel.

    Spot on video Jim. Folks ask me about buying s lifter kite and when I look at what they own I point out what could be used. Adjust your expectations to the gear you have and just fky and experiment.

      @JimNicholls  Před měsícem +1

      Well put, Tim! I think a lot of people swallow the idea that there's only one "true" lifter, put out by those who stand to profit from that, whereas many kites can effectively lift all that most people would ever need.

    Nice video Jim. Amazed the ultrafoil is out of production.

    • @JimNicholls
      @JimNicholls  Před měsícem

      David, the UltraFoil and all of the other kites from Into The Wind went out of production several years ago when the company lost the factory in China that it had always used. They've struggled to find other facilities to build their kites at an acceptable price, and although a few items have trickled back, most will probably never return. Copies (of very doubtful quality) of the UltraFoil have appeared from a Chinese factory recently (and I see Metropolis Drachen in Germany is offering one), but I doubt if the "real thing" will return anytime soon.

      It's a sad fact, David, as you know, that a lot of great kites are no longer made. I'm glad that I didn't start flying now, when the selection is so diminished and "line laundry" seems to have almost taken over from real kites.

      @@JimNicholls I understand. I hope you're not putting so much work into making the videos that you're not having all the fun you should be having! I wanted to thank you because it was someone like you who rekindled my interest in kiting many decades ago. Turns out, kiting is flying/sailing and NOT running! 🙂 We have had bad weather, followed by days of the dreaded "light and variable" winds in my neck of the woods. I recently thought again about getting something really light for flying in 3mph winds, but those birds tend to be fragile. I'm eager to put in with a new delta conyne. May the wind be at your back...

      The Alpine DC from Into The Wind is a great kite, and extra good in low wind, rated down to 3 mph.

      Deltas can certainly be very effective lifters, as you have found. A lot of people don't realise that they own a lifter and fail to make use of it.

    I'm really glad you made this video! Thank you. How do you go about choosing the line for each kite? I just ordered a 7sqm trilobite and am not sure what line to use.

    • @JimNicholls
      @JimNicholls  Před měsícem +1

      The line strength really depends on the wind speed, as that affects the pull of the kite considerably. But for the Trilobite I use 300lb braided dacron line always, as that covers all conditions.
