- Queen Elizabeth's Extended Family Tree Explained. Let's see who are QE2's cousins and which ones are still alive? I go through her extended family tree of her father's paternal line. We also look at her first cousin's children and grandchildren. This is a full comprehensive family tree as of 2022.
Queen Elizabeth II's death does not mean she was the last of her generation. She has 4 first cousins still alive of the seven originally. The Duke of Gloucester, The Duke of Kent, Princess Alexandra, and Prince Michael of Kent.
The first cousins of her aunt Mary, Princess Royal have passed away, as well as the elder son of her late uncle the former Duke of Gloucester.

Fun fact, my parents 88 and 94 are now on their 5th monarch! both were born when George V was on the throne. Also it amazes my how Mary of Teck (Queen Mary) has passed her looks on
Queen Mary good German stock
You should write a journal and ask them about their memories throughout all the decades! They lived through WW2, Queen Elizabeth’s coranation, humans stepping foot on the moon, the rise of technology, and so much more. You can always look back on the journal and read it!
Same with my mother now aged 92 who was also born in the reign of George V
Also amazing to think that Queen Mary was Princess Mary of Teck, a direct descendant of Prince Vlad of Wlakia, also known as "Son of the Dragon", or Dracula.
Yes, the same with my father, now in his 90's. My mother saw 4. But my great grandparents saw 5 as well. Victoria, Edward VII, George V, Edward VIII and George VI. My grandparents also saw 5. Just delete old Vickie and add on Lizzie. Its almost surreal that now in upper middle age I only saw ONE up until a couple weeks ago.
Woooow, the research you did is amazing, the family tree is so streamlined, easy to see relations and generations, and you even included photos, and numbered them in the group photo. I was a big fan before, but this amazed me. I knew the faces of the senior royals, including the Queens still working cousins, but their children and grandchildren are just numerous with many different names and titles, I would never entangle the family tree myself. Truly great work!!
Thank you!
It is but you have to look for the older version of the family trees on inactive websites to find entire branches.
I am glad you have decided to mention her cousins because they are rarely known and they are hard workers.
Hard workers🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@bodnica yeah….not every royal gets financial support. Most extended royals, especially those who are descendants from Edward VII’s other offspring, could walk down the street and not get recognised. Heck, I only know the household royal names. I would be surprised if the Queen herself could even remember all her relatives. There’s just too many.
@@CrazyBrosCael knowing her note for detail she most certainly did haha
@@RossKyle95 She did her best to familiarize herself with all of them but it was easier to remember the Kents and Gloucesters because they perform duties alongside her and she aid have strong friendships with her 2nd-3rd cousins who are also sovereigns.
@@sirwelch9991 she was particularly close with the Duke of Kent , he’s the Royal Colonel of Scots `guards actually also Royal Scots Dragoon Guards - which traces back to Royal Scots Greys ( who had Tsar Nicolas II as a previous colonel since we are talking about European cousins etc haha her grandfathers cousin so what’s that 1st cousin twice removed or 3rd cousin can’t mind hahah ) now I’m rambling ahah
Thanks! This family tree was super-helpful. 😊
Wonderfully informative! Thank you!
Brilliant work! Queen Victoria really did make all of Europe part of “the family”. You’ve mentioned my family in your videos on a few occasions. It’s very odd to see but lovely that you are keeping it all up to date for everyone. A wee tip for you; each family keeps it’s own records as well and goes down to just before Charlemagne! Even the Clan Kings are noted and kept up with.
That was actually Prince Albert's idea. He wanted to link most of the major European powers through blood or marriage. He was pretty successful too!
@@retroguy9494 Well done! She went along with it though. Of course, I believe she’d had followed him in anything. It’s a bother at times but always nice to have somewhere to stay when visiting! 😂
@@Sorchia56 LOL Indeed! And the royal family DID seem to have relatives wherever in Europe they visited! Yes, she DID take Prince Albert's advice in most things. But it wasn't all peaches and cream. That little family squabble DID lead to World War I. Queen Victoria and her son King Bertie were good at managing the family and keeping them from fighting. Sadly, once Georgie became King, he didn't fare so well with it!
@@retroguy9494 it didn’t lead to ww1, the monarchy basically had no power or say in what was going on, it was just a coincidence that the monarchs of 3 nations at war (Britain, Germany and Russia) were first cousins. France very narrowly escaped this fate, Queen Victoria was considering betrothing her youngest daughter Beatrice to the son and heir of Napoleon III. Can you imagine France, Russia and Germany with monarchs who are all first cousins to George V? We can’t forget Denmark, Norway and Greece as well as the monarchs there were also first cousins of George V during ww1
The Royal family tree is so extensive, thanks for clearing it up for us
I really enjoy your videos. Thank you so much.
WOW! Thank you! You came up on my feed and I'm so glad I pushed play! BEST breakdown of the Royal family tree I have ever watched. Subscribed👍
Thank you for doing this. Really helps in understanding the complex family tree of the royal family. I am now subscribed.
wow I love how you did the chart layout it is so beautifully demostrated
Glad you like it!
The pictures were extremely helpful in following your description. Thank you.
Wow! Extremely detailed! Thanks for all your hard work!
My pleasure!
Excellent video! I loved the detail and the photographs. The media often gets the details wrong.
I like the layout and use of current photos. From Cape Town, South Africa
Thank you i found this very interesting!
Great work! It was amazing to finally see the faces of the living relatives of the Queen who are further down the line of succession. The only thing that would have made this video a masterpiece would be the notation of what number each person is currently in the line of succession to the throne. There are quite a lot of people here so I'm assuming they are the top 100 in the line of succession.
I think Prince Michael is something like 51st in line to the throne.
Here ya go;
czcams.com/video/5cOv_pHqrp4/video.html
Fabulous work! Thank you!
Well done!!!
The current Duke if Kent looks remarkably like George VI.
I think you are confusing the Duke of Kent with Prince Michael of Kent, it's him who looks almost exactly like King George ‼️
Oh sorry, you were talking about George VI while I was thinking of George V 🤓
He also looks like he's about 105 and walks like he's going to keel over any second! Must be the effects of that stroke he had a few years back.
His brother Prince Michael looks remarkably like Tsar Nicolas, and he is v.popular in Russia
@@tahiti1 because of his looks or for what reasons?!?
Ooooohhh look at the Duke of Kent, standing straight and tall at near 90. He's not called 'LongShanks II'' for no reason. Prince Edward isn't a show-boy royal but a real power station at his duchy with an army of 250,000 strong, he's a force not to be messed with. Battle-hardened and strong-headed, the brave duke of Kent with his Edwardian sword 🗡️ can cut through every quack and buffoon in the house of commons, single-handedly and all at once. That's why the bedtime story goes; 'Why was the dragon unhappy at the dinner with Duke of Kent? Because he was the dinner'.
Really informative video great work!
Great job, thanks!
Thank you. I was hoping to see the queen's cousins during the funeral coverage, but very little was televised. Also looking forward to viewing the Bowes-Lyon video as there's not much information regarding cousins/family on the queen mum's side.
I just uploaded it- here you go- her maternal family tree which Bowes-Lyons cousins are still alive?: czcams.com/video/ngRK08NpoNo/video.html
Wow..great job
wow, you really have knocked this out of the park!
You can see where the Windsor close set eyes came from - Queen Mary, formerly Princess Mary of Teck. Close set eyes are still a strong feature in the family!
Very interesting. In recent years I often found myself thinking how much like her grandmother Queen Elizabeth had become...
Its a sight better than inheriting old Queen Vickie's huge bulging eyes! Bertie (Edward VII) had them too. Made him look SO weird.
Another video that is needed. Good show.
Well done. My understanding is that Lacelles is pronounced with the emphasis on the first syllable, like tassels.
@Mortal Faces you do such an amazing job with all of these family trees I’m just curious how far back into your own personal family tree you have gone. Obviously, without going into the information will you say how far back you’ve gone? In any case, thank you for the work you put into these videos.
Q
so interesting!! Thank you!
Good presentation, much appreciated your effort.👍
Good job
Thank you for your service majesty
You are so good!
Well done
Thank you for the information.
Wow! Thanks!
Finally something to look at... thank you much
good video.
Thank you. The visuals made it all make a lot more sense. And it makes more sense about slimming down the monarchy as that is a lot of people etc to manage and keep afloat.
Terrific thanks
I have been struggling with my family tree trunks as I have a big family which is the best way to start as I have tried different places ps I love looking at how much effort you put in to find out who’s who extremely interesting 👍💯💖
perfect , good research
I'll take your word for it!
That was fantastic, a lot of people, do not recognise, that the Queens father had so many siblings, isn't it strange that she would have still been Queen, in the 1970's, because David/Edward VIII, had no heir
Yes, she would have reined for 50 years instead of 70. That is if David didn't turn England over to Germany during WWII as its now well known he was a Nazi sympathizer.
I have read that due to an injury from the first war there was a good chance he was infertile so yes, she was probably going to inherit the throne anyway but probably at an older age than unfortunately happened.
Erm, not only possibly he had an injury, but when he and Wallis married, she was 41, a bit old to try to have a baby.
@@robertandhollyscorpiofan2697 As has been pointed out, he slept around. A lot. But somehow nobody managed to get pregnant to him, which is one reason they are fairly certain he was infertile.
@@robertandhollyscorpiofan2697 have read that Wallis had a botched abortion before she met David that left her unable to have children - but yes her age was also against her
Adorei conhecer esses detalhes.
Thank you so much. 👍👍
I've always thought that Prince Michael of Kent looks like Victoria's grandsons, George V (UK) and Nicholas II (Russia). They all have the same large and piercing pale blue eyes while the Duke of Kent looks like George VI.
Nicholas II was not a grandchild of Victoria his wife was. George and Nicholas were first cousins through their mothers who were sisters
Michael looks like that not because of his descent from Victoria but likely because of his descent from Christian IX. Both George V and Nicholas II are grandsons of Christian. Michael is descended from Christian of course through George V, but his mother Marina was the daughter of another cousin, Prince Nicholas of Greece. So this is likely why he resembles Nicholas so much, he’s related on both sides.
He looks like he won't see the end of the year.
Very informative video 👍. From Lahore Pakistan ❤️
May the Queen Rest In Peace. An example of someone dedicated to Public Service. Even inspired me to create a video about her life & story on my channel. Thanks for sharing this video
lol no
Good on you.
Perfectly summerised
I'd been wondering who all those people were standing on the balcony. Thank you.
Very interesting! There was much in the news about the queen and her parents and grandparents..... It struck me out of nowhere: Didn't most/all of these people have siblings? Who & where are they? Thank you!
There's quite a spread in ages in each generation. Has this resulted in any generational everlap? Ex. My mother has two first cousins (her generation) who are actually younger than I am.
My brain exploded. 💣🤯
Basically if you are related to any Royal Family of Europe you are related to the Queen and her family. All the Royal houses of Europe married into each other. I am mostly closely related to the Spanish, French Austrian and German lines. So we are closely related to the Queen and her family. Princess Diana was an even closer relative through the Spencer line as the Spencer line was closer to the Spanish and French lines. I have more lines of descent from the same ancestors to count. Our family also only married within the same lines for centuries on one side and then the other. They did this to keep money, land and power in the family. This is how we are related to every Royal house in Europe through direct descendants through male or female lines. Among the Spanish however a female could inherit titles easily if there were no male heirs AND they could also own their own property. The coat of arms could also be inherited by a female if there were no other male heirs in their line it did not jump to uncles or cousins unless there were no children. They also kept their OWN surnames. The Spanish also have no laws regarding who can use the family crest male or female. The crest is the emblem on top of the helmet on the coat of arms not everyone has these. I love seeing the family altogether on the balcony except Me-again and Harry of course.
Amazing…pretty cool..
Thanks!
Could you please do a Video of Giacomo Casanova?
I’d like to see Richard III, hopefully you get around to him sometime , thanks
I am a Bowes and I’m very interested in that portion of the line. Specifically who the first Bowes was who came to America. In that search I stumbled onto your site. I noticed that Bowes is spelled bowls at some points in your chart and I’m wondering if that is a typo or if that is true?
Many of the other surviving monarchs in Europe are also cousins of Queen Elizabeth, but none are first cousins to my knowledge except Norway's King Harald who (I believe) is a first cousin once removed.
Have you gotten into the spanish royal familes yet? If not, I would like to see...
Thanks for this, I was wondering who that person was walking behind the Queen.
Must be nice to be Prince Richard. He's a relative unknown, but has the perks of being a working Royal.
You should find out an extended family tree of the iligitament children of George the vi. How do you if thats possible? Maybe more on the extended saunders family tree where does that go? Do you have any more information on here or elsewhere I could see more branches I'm looking for more current info if you have it.
My nieces and nephews range in age from 16-49, my great-nieces and nephews range in age from newborn-25.
Wow that's a big gap.
@@MortalFaces My great-grandfather was born in 1830. His first child was born in 1849. His youngest in 1890. The youngest two died in infancy. My grandfather was born in 1884. His oldest was born in 1917, his youngest in 1936.
I actually read some where that Edward the 8th was infertile so even if he married someone other than Wallis Simpson and stayed king he never would have had kids which means Elizabeth was always meant to be king just years later than she did.
I have never been so confused in my life. 😂
The 3 current Kents are doubly related to the generation of Charles III etc as their mother Marina was a first cousin of Prince Phillip while Edward was uncle of Elizabeth II.
They say that one of the Queen's favorite cousins was Prince William, who died in a plane crash almost 50 years ago. The current Prince William was named after him.
The deceased Prince William's father was Henry, the Duke of Glouster. He was the Queen's favorite uncle. Prince Harry was named after him. Harry is a nickname the media coined. His real name is Prince Henry.
William and Henry (Harry).
Harry is a normal nickname for guys named Henry.
Can you please do King George the third?
There is an excellent film called The Madness of King George. Worth a look if you can get it. It stars Nigel Hawthorne.
No joke, I love this stuff. But good lord, even I couldn’t be bothered to commit much of this to memory once it got to Prince Henry’s & Prince George’s descendants hahaha. Thank goodness there’s no quiz after this.
Wow! 👑👑👑🤓🤓🤓
❤️❤️❤️❤️
There's another video on this channel about the Queen's maternal side cousins.
I worked in Jersey in 1964, a man dressed as a yacht captain would do a daily pub craw around St. Hellier, drinking whisky. He wore a pair of binoculars around his neck and would frequently scan the back of the bar with them. It was claimed he was a member of the Royal family but had been exiled to Jersey because he was an embarrassment to them. I have often wondered who he was.
Sounds interesting 🤓
William may have lost his brother as a working royal, but I am glad he has his six royal cousins to support him. I think it would be nice for Princesses Beatrice & Eugenie to have bigger roles... Lady Louise and her brother James too as they get older, and Peter & Zara, although they are further down the line and probably wouldn't want that. Most of the working royals are 70+... Edward and Sophie may well be the only ones still around when William and Kate become king and queen, and I'm sure they would rather their kids are not pressured into public roles too early due to a lack of any other working royals.
Hi
Lmao I'm her 14th cousin once removed on my father's side.
Can you do a video of the Royal Family of Hawaii a friend of mine said he’s from the Royal Family in Hawaii his Great grandmother died last year in December he said something about he’s from the House of Kawananakoa or something like that
So Megan Markel was not the first person of colour to marry into the Royal Family. I see Lady Davina Windsor (Lewis) has two children Senna Kowhai Lewis (2010) and Tane Mahuta Lewis (2012) whose father is a New Zealand Maori hence the Maori names
What about the paternal cousins of King Charles III? We all know his maternal cousins the children of Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon.
But what about the children of Prince Philip’s siblings and their families?
They are much older than him as Prince Philip’s sisters is much older. I think his oldest cousin is born in the 1930s.
Here's prince Philip's paternal family tree: czcams.com/video/jmvaLJJX-2Y/video.html
Do you all imagine what would have happened if the late Queen's uncle hadn't give up the throne? Her cousins would be now the legit king/queen . The whole line of succesion would be quite different. Interesting
Except her uncle and Wallis never had children. She'd still have been the queen eventually, just not until 1972 when he died.
Unfortunately, the Queen’s mother, was almost the youngest child in her family, so most of her first cousins on that side are probably all passed on by now.
Yes. All except 2. You can check it out here on Part 2: czcams.com/video/ngRK08NpoNo/video.html

That 33 age difference is something but I got that beat. My only son is 4 years old and my oldest niece is only 4 years younger than me at 47. My son is the same age as her grandson. My son is a year younger than my sister's great-grandson.
King MattyG!! ALBA EMPIRE 🎉
Duke of Kent, Prince Michael of Kent, Princess Alexandra of Kent, Duke of Gloucester.
What about othe European Royal related to ERII like Queen Sophie of Denmark. I just saw an interview with her. What a wonderful old woman.
the Queen of Denmark is called Margarethe
🤯
It seems that Princess Mary's descendants didn't remain close to the royal family the way King George V other grandchildren Gloschesters and Kents have through the decades.
Wow I really thought her dad and uncle were the only kids
When the Earl of Ulster and the Earl of St. Andrews inherit their titles of Duke of Gloucester and Duke of Kent respectively, they will actually no longer be members of the royal family, not entitled to the use of "Royal Highness" and will be ordinary dukes (if being a duke can be considered ordinary). In terms of official precedence, instead of being Royal Dukes and listed ahead of the other dukes, they will be listed according to the date of their titles' creation, so they will now be at the back of the pack.
Just give it time.
I am an ever distant relative. Through D.N.A. I am said to be the 30th Cousin (once removed) to Queen Elizabeth II.

Interesting to have them all identified that were standing watching the Queen's lying in state in Westminster Hall
Your provision of a key to the group photograph of the members of the Royal Family at the funeral of HM Queen Elizabeth II, and the image itself, remind me of a very crowded painting, by Tuxen, of the Royal Family gathered for the Golden Jubilee of HM Queen Victoria! Absolutely no criticism of your exemplary research and understanding but the family pronounce Lascelles as 'L@ slz with the emphasis on 'La'. Just out of interest but not relevant here, the word 'equerry' also has an odd emphasis, in this case on the que, i.e. eh'kwerri(:)
You sound like my husband.

Who would've been next in line had King Edward not abdicated and remained childless?
If King Edward had still lived until 1972 and the monarchy had survived WWII and his...questionable potential alliances, and everyone else lived the same years, there would have been no George VI, Elizabeth II would have become Queen in 1972, and Charles III would still be King today. That is, assuming she still married Phillip in 1947 and had the same children afterwards.
@@katwithattitude5062 Thank you. I thought it would've worked out like this.
