A drone Shot of the Largest Slum in Nigeria Capital City, Abuja

- Mpape is close to maitama and also the largest slum settlement in Abuja Nigeria. Over 1 million people live here. Housing in Abuja Nigeria quite expensive, so many people settle for slums like this, given its proximity to the city center.
There are also other slums in Abuja Nigeria, like in airport road, lugbe, durumi, dawaki, apo, gudu, gwagwalada, jabi, asokoro, but this is the largest, just like Makoko slum in Lagos Nigeria.
This video is a drone shot or aerial view of Mpape the largest slum in Abuja Nigeria.
Nigerian government needs to provide an affordable housing scheme for citizens especially for people who live in Abuja, considering that housing is very expensive in Abuja Nigeria.
Mpape is also the home to Crushed Rock, an abandoned quarry site that has become a tourist attraction in Abuja nigeria.

Kudos for not ignoring the not so nice side of FCT.
The aerial shots are brilliant, thank you.
The "slum" is very typical of many urban settlements in Nigeria. It's the reality for most Nigerians, sadly.
Thank you very much

I am amazed at how development is going at a pace for gated communites.. And the amount of money being ask to own these places.. Ppl living it up in luxury in Nigeria while a stone throw away this is a reality for many ppl..
The govt with private co-op could roll out a proper housing project if they really wanted too..!
@harry flashman I think the truth is important. It's up to those that hear the message to do something about the situation.
I live in Brazil and I am surprised of how the slums in Nigeria looks way more poor than our slums but look way more safe, like, people can put your motorcycles in the streets and leave their shoes outside, im really impressed

I used to live in maitama and it’s incredibly pathetic how a ‘high brow area’ is next door to the biggest slum in Africa. The irony is that Mpape has one of the most beautiful landscapes in Abuja. Deplorable! I weep for these humans. Nigerian politicians are not corrupt, They’re wild beasts.
Not the biggest slum in Africa.
I don't think it's the biggest slum in Africa

Thanks for the perspective. I have visited Mpape many times and can say the place felt safe even though it's a slum. The people there are hard working. They are working class people of Nigeria. They provide the cheap labor for hotels restaurants domestic staff security staff. In fact Abuja depends on Mpape for cheap labour. It's unfortunate that our leaders are not yet serious about the working-class welfare.
I agree with you absolutely
That is exploitation !

@David Nkwa. Dude, I love your videos, they are very informative. I also like your format/style with your commentary and speaking with the local residents. From an outsider like me, it seems that this neighborhood has more Blackwater tanks around than I've seen in other open communities which is a great thing to see. I was wondering what the Nigerian Government is doing in 2021 to improve water distribution for all the Citizens. How come we never hear about the Government talking about constructing Water Desalination Plants. There seem to be many places in Lagos that would be prime spots for such construction. From what I've seen Nigeria has the largest GDP of any African Nation, so they should be able to fund it with maybe Private Enterprises chipping in for the costs.

The area is beautiful and neat. I wouldn’t mind living there.
You have done excellently well bro. Government can intervene by applying Slump Upgrading strategies. Relocation is usually expensive and most times poorly implemented. Dividing the entire area into spots and redeveloping chosen spots is encouraged. People can see the new improvements within the slums and the adjoining spots can likewise replicate. Private enterprises are highly encouraged to participate with shared benefits with the slum dwellers. Leaving it entirely in the hands of government alone will not yield the desired goal.
Slump Upgrading strategies? I like this idea, hope some one up there see this

What is the heaviest burden in development?
@@olatunjioni4168 The poor have the fewest options and their voices are oftentimes silenced with force by the nation state. The poor are most often the ones pushed out of their homes to make way for roads, construction and other things we associate with "development". Rarely are the poor fairly compensated, if they are compensated at all or resettled when they are displaced for "the greater good".
The wealthier one is, a person has more options and can find alternate housing or even choose to engage in a legal battle to retain his land/home. Nations, worldwide, have always been built with the blood of the poor. The nation with any ethics will at least strive to care for its most vulnerable citizens. I hope this answers your question.
You can see the wide chasm that exists between the rich and the poor in Nigeria, they deserve so much better.

Great video depicting the appalling conditions in Abuja. In a nation with so much wealth from oil, and with such conditions which are ideal for new variants of viruses and bacteria to mutate endlessly and prove lethal for rich and poor alike, you'd think officials would come to their senses to avert new pandemics. I was in Abuja in the 1990's with a group of Black Men Baha'is from the US for the purpose of meeting our Baha'i brothers and sisters who are trying hard to provide the spiritual influences which would help Nigeria in combatting social and financial inequalities.
