What do you mean about regular gauge strings? 10- 46 is Regular gauge! I use many gauges for different tunings on different guitars! Eb, D, drop C, C,standard, C#, drop B! Different tunings for different types of songs!
At the beginning you used a small clone. But then when you activated the distortion, was the small clone still on or you were just using the distortion ?

I use Ernie Ball Super Slinky's on my '67 Gibson Flying V, Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky's on my Gibson Les Paul Studio, Regular Slinky's on my 1985 Gibson Artist Series Explorer, & on my 1992 Fender Stevie Ray Vaughan Signature "Number 1" Stratocaster I run strings so heavy that my high e string is 13-Gauge (Just like Stevie Ray Vaughan)
+Juliano Souza the song is usually tuned a whole step down to d which is totally diff than drop d. The second chord in the chorus is a power chord on the 6-5 string and is a 2-4 or 4-2 (however you look at it) with the strings open on the high end. Aka some weird F# chord lol. (Since the tunning is diff it's no longer an f#) but if it was drop d where it's tuned standard and only the 6th string is dropped to d than that power chord would be done with one finger on the 4th fret

Actually if you watch Kurt play this in the Live & Loud concert from December 3rd, 1993, you'll see that he only uses downstrokes on the main riff.

boss ds-1 is what kurt used in the early time when bleach came out and early years of nvermind, then he used boss ds-2, so its either or not so sure
