  • The amazing Sparx skate grinding machine also sharpens figure skates. In this video, I demonstrate just how easily Sparx make this possible. I have experimented with different radiuses and after some time with the 1/2 radius, I have since returned back to 7/16.
    Thanks for watching

    I’ve had a Sparx for five years to sharpen hockey skates. It’s phenomenal. Before I had blades that became flat after numerous manual grinds. Amazing machine.

    do you have any problem rounding off the back of the blade? Also it only works with parallel blades

      Actually it looks like the back of your blade is rounded. Thats not good.

      No my blades are still square at the back. After 3 years off use and 27 grinds.

      @@adrianhydephotography at 1:48 of the video, it looks like rounded.

      yes it is because the whole reason why I got the sparks machine was because the first grind on these blades was done be hand by some idiot who took the back of I was so angry I went out and get the machine so that I would not have to put up with bad grinds ever again. Well spotted thought.

    Thanks. Do you need the front and back guards if you adjust the height to miss the toe pick?

      Yes you do. You bring the wheel over the toepick to make sure it clears it before you run the sharpening sequence. It works so well. I have been using this machine now for over 2 years and it is very consistent. It’s wonderful.

    How many cycles is good to do?

    How does it follow the curve of the blade? For example if you had a 7 foot rocker vs. an 8 foot rocker, how would it figure out how to trace the right curvature? Is it spring loaded?

    • @adrianhydephotography
      @adrianhydephotography  Před 11 měsíci

      Yes it’s spring loaded and follows the exact profile that was layer on before. I have used it now for 3 years and every Regrind has been perfect.

      Awesome, thanks! Just to confirm since you appear to play hockey too, the 3 years of perfection are on figure skates? My biggest issue with it is that it seems almost impossible to find figure skaters who have tried it so I really appreciate your video and experience!

      @@pumpkingod only my son plays ice hockey but my daughter, wife and myself all figure skate. I could not find anyone I trusted with my skates. So we invested in this sparks machine and it was one of the best decisions we ever made. I was going to go for a pro sharp but although you can do more with them. For example set new profiles on blades. The pro sharp machine needs to be calibrated more often and is much more complex to operate. The sparks machine is much simpler to use and does a fantastic job.
