We missed you, Janne.
Hi Osman! Im sorry it has taken so long time. I simply haven't had the time to edit videos. I still need to get episode 8 together and then it's time for something new :D If I have the energy.
@@JanneNordman Please don't tire yourself
As a Turkish woman, the end of this episode made me very sad. Ruhiye and her friend were raped by an adult when they were still children. They were embarrassed, they couldn't tell anyone. But they married her friend to her rapist. Being raped in Turkey, especially in rural areas, is a shame for the victim and her family. Actually it shouldn't be! To cover up this shame, they marry the rapist to the rape victim. Therefore, the man was not punished in the past. Now the situation is not different, families do not complain, the man is not punished under the name of responsibility. This must be the scariest thing for a woman. To continue living your life with your greatest pain.
Many men here do not want to marry a rape victim. That's why Ruhiye told everything from the beginning. Yasin was not easy for him and he did not leave Ruhiye. Because he loves Ruhiye. He is very angry that he couldn't make her forget her pain and did nothing. Yasin said that the man died in order not to upset Ruhiye. Yasin publicly punished and exposed this man, who could never be found guilty before the law, and his criminals who should be ashamed.
Thank you for explaining that.
@@JanneNordman Only an ignorant group lives this shame. This situation is described as something that Turkey accepts as normal, but most people are uncomfortable with that.

5:00 The family is Kurdish. Kurdish conflict in Turkey has a long history, I don’t wanna get all political here but it’s a clear fact that the army or some individuals in the army crossed some lines while engaging, especially in the 80s and 90s. The brother in the family has a disorder from the birth due to a soldier kicking the the belly of the pregnant mother.
The older sister represents the Kurdish people who kinda forgot those days and now supports the government while the conflict continues. Little sister is opposing the government, yet she is the most disconnected one from her own culture and doesn’t even speak Kurdish like the others in the family. She is the most assimilated one, but tries to appropriate her people’s fight while the older sister just “kisses the boots of the soldier who kicked their mom’s belly”. It seems like a character contradiction, yet it’s pretty common. The conflict between the sisters are the representation of Kurdish people being forced to pick sides and not being able to just live on their lives. Everything is political, there’s no way out for them.
A little spoiler: At the end, we’ll see most of the characters develop to a healing. It’s not like a “happily ever after all”, but it’s close. Yet, not this family. The damage done to them cannot be healed easily, they’re doomed to live their lives in conflicts and constant misery.

Janne, first of all I discovered your channel and I liked it because you are honest. You always say to us what you feel without a worry. Most of the youtuber thinks that if I say anything bad they'll hate me so they say just what people wanna hear and my friend thats suck. I read comments and I did it almost for every reaction video on your channel. Everyone recommend popular turkish movies to you but most of the times popular movies not good (I am sorry but the truth). You can watch "İtirazım Var" which is interesting movie but not soo popular. I strongly recommend that movie. If you read my words thanks for everything janne, we love you bro.
i was watching with you but i didint wait you so i watched the series without you. lets watch finale and finish this show :D
Indeed !! Let's finish this show :D
Incident 20 years ago, sexual harassment. Moreover, it is a crime against the child. We watch the perpetrator's remorse; but we do not know whether the reason for regret is his helplessness or shame. If we accept the film as current, in the years that coincided with the harassment, there was a much-debated law in Turkey. If the rapist marries the victim, he escapes punishment. I think this is highlighted in the movie.
also in the rural parts of the turkey uneducated people cares so so much about virginity and non virgin girls considered defective even though they were raped also unfortunately they are forced to marry men who took their virginity just like this case.
Thanks for clearing that for me. I never notice the word "rape" which of course is unforgivable. When Ruhiye said. "We were kids, you weren't" - I lost my empathy for the man.
@@JanneNordman Yes, some mistakes are unforgivable. Especially crimes against children. Man is only human as long as he can control his impulses.

By the way, Ethos is all about misjudgements, prejudgements, etc. And it’s all about Turkey. I sometimes feel you don’t know how to react, and all confused. This show is all basen on Turkey’s past and present problems.
While I watching I know that all the things in it are true, not feel or seem like true. They are all true. I know it for sure. Really 😅 That why it has deeper meaning for me or for us. Kinda mirror 😉
Watching it with you so fun. You have different point of view for some situations and I like it ☺️ Looking forward to see your the last Ethos reaction video. Love ❤️

😳 😅
When the hodja daughter said that she wanted to go to Konya, the hodja said something like "What are you going to do there, your mother left, will you go too". His daughter said, "Daddy, if you had gone too." He wanted his father to die too. because she feels bad. Behaving against religion while his father was religious. I don't know if you noticed but the teacher's daughter is a lesbian and she only covers her head next to her father (so she doesn't really want to cover it). The girl passes out while listening to music. His reaction when his father called out to him frightened him. That's why he said, "You're scaring me, girl." The teacher couldn't understand why he was reacting like that.
Thank you for explaining that 😊

Im gonna choose being right. Because the happiness you choose is just not a long-term thing. If you keep stuff in yourself, if you dont talk honestly, it will just save the day. And also you cant be happy always anyway. So keep it simple, be right and eventually happiness will come. But if you're saying we cant have them both ever... Then Im not sure. Because if you have a relationship, the main goal of it is to be happy, right? If you're not happy, whats the reason to have one? And is being right *that* important? I dont think so.
Well written. It was a little provocative comment for my side. If only things were that simple.
@@JanneNordman well the answer will probably change based on the example we're talking about. But if you have an issue, I wish you all the best and recommend to talk to professionals Janne :)

Yes, shockingly ( not for Turkish viewers I assume ), the other victim of the assault was married off to her rapist. Probably since the assault was hidden, and she feared if her not being a virgin is heard, she would get in trouble, she felt obliged to marry him.
About the sister's fight:
It is about the crimes perpetrated against the Kurdish people by the Turkish state. In the 90s especially, to stop the Kurdish separatist's movement and terror attacks resulted from this cause, the state repeatedly targeted civilians (allegedly) and attacked villages and families, and inflicted torture upon them. The specific case could be the army ravaging the family's house, attacking the pregnant mother and other family members in search of a claimed terrorist or even during the eviction of a village in a 'risky' area. The sister with the headscarf is more pious, is critical of her sister's modern lifestyle and her rebelliousness and aligns with the AKP government and most probably financially benefiting from this alignment as well. The doctor sister is critical of her sister's alignment with the government, and her being blind and mute to the obvious for self-gain. Also, the sister with the headscarf wants to feel morally righteous by claiming the seizures are heightened by her sister's unconventionalism (doctor sister gave him a cannabis-based medicine) Indeed she probably feels subconsciously guilty of her alignment with the state, and inferior to her sister because of being less educated. Also, she might be attacking her sister's rebelliousness as she, herself is ashamed of being a conformist.

Parents are afraid of losing their children, just as children are afraid of losing their parents, they don't even want to think about their death.
This is a legitimate concern and is actually quite normal. Because anxiety is like an alarm system that the Creator puts in order for a person to be happy, survive and take precautions against dangers. Because of this sense of anxiety, we take more care of our loved ones, work harder for our future, and leave home early to arrive at our destination on time.
Without anxiety, none of this will happen.
Knowing that one day everyone will die, we should protect and love our loved ones. We should not be offended for simple reasons.
The series is a bit confusing. because it wants to make you think and doesn't explain things clearly
Oh yes - I was confused many times :D
I guess it makes the experience a little bit different to each viewer 👍🏻😊
@@JanneNordman agree
Yes, its confusing to Turkish audience too. They never give the whole story on purpose. They want us to fill the blanks on the story. But it is obvious that Ruhiye and her friend was molested by the man when they were kids. Ruhiye somehow start a different life but she gets depressed because she doesn't get the necessary help about her past problems, and nobody understands it why. That is sad because her husband knows and beated the guy 3 years ago. Why he act like he do not understand?
Also its very very sad that, friend of Ruhiye had to married their molester. My heart is broken about this. I feel very bad for her situation.

The incident which was 35 years ago is about racism in Turkey. Kurdish people are always seen as second class citizen or terrorists by Turkish governments. They are not allowed to use their rights like talking in their native language. Current government puts Kurdish leaders in prison. If anyone is heard talking Kurdish, they are beaten by the fascist Turks. I am a Turk myself but I hate today’s government and also previous governments taking Kurdish people as second citizens and not serving the eastern cities of Turkey. They are torturing the innocent people and causing the teens to be enemy of the state. And then they are accusing all Kurdish people as terrorists and this is a vicious circle for many years...
