I remember seeing this two-parter for the first time. I wasn't sure how they would top the Kraang's invasion last season, but somehow, they pulled it off, and I was left in stunned silence. For fans of the show, this was basically their Infinity War.

When the entire planet is on the verge of being destroyed, even bad guys have lines they won't cross. At least, Tiger Claw cares about humanity more than Shredder.

  • @markibash2689

Just to readdress shredders’ character/ motives, the death of tang Shen is the most memorable moment but overall shredder has had to accept the fact that his “family” wasn’t his biological family. Not only that but he was raised by the family that killed his biological father and his “people” and “home”. To add on, in the fight against his “brother” for the love of the same woman, shredder basically lost his humanity when his face got burned. Now with the fact that he’s holding a grudge at splinter for what happened to karai, who’s slowly becoming the opposite of shredder despite having a similar origin, i doubt shredder would let all of that go. To put it simply, he was a normal human trapped in a small hole to begin with, and with every attempt he gives to get out, he’s unknowingly digging himself deeper.

I’m honestly more surprised this isn’t something that more fans of the 2003 series didn’t try to predict because the human Kraang forms look exactly like Bishop from the 2003 series, which by the way not just a visual reference to the 2003 series but also a reason to bring Bishop into the show

I remember really enjoying this finale back when it aired. Seeing everyone disappear and Splinter die made me really sad. It’s kind of a bummer that you knew the ending beforehand since I wanted to see your “oh shit” reaction like I had.
I think 2012 Bishop is more of a combo of Mortu/Bishop than a true 2003 Bishop. There will be more explanation of why the writers they did this and how it works for this series.
With Shredder’s resentment towards Splinter, I think it is more than the love rivalry with Tang Shen. In this version, Shredder’s clan is wiped and as a baby he’s adopted by the Hamato Clan. Shredder found this out and vowed revenge for his fallen clan. Also, he has this twisted idea that Splinter caused Karai’s mutation, her hatred towards him, and her multiple disappearances; this thought doesn’t get any better after she was lost in “The Fourfold Trap.”
Honeycutt will get more development and reasoning for saving the Turtles a little later than probably your expecting. I don’t personally mind because it left me wondering who PH was and what his intentions. I also love his voice actor, David Tennant so I might be a tiny bit biased.
I’m curious to know if you realized most of Shredder & Splinter’s backstory is really close to 2003 Hamato Yoshi’s and his childhood friend(I can’t remember his name).
Again, I can’t wait for your reaction to see your reaction to “The Moons of Thalos 3” because one of my top 10 favorite characters is going to be introduced and Raph in this episode in general.

WHAT!! WHAT!! WHAT!! WHAT!! Well my excitement for the rest of S4 just skyrocketed!
I think his name was Mashimi, and yeah, it is very much the same story!
The uploading of my reaction to the first 2 episodes of S4 might be a little delayed since I am feeling a little sick and I don't won't to upload it until I have recorded more reactions, since it is the last on of that recording session!

Season 2 finale is by far my favorite but this is a close second.

  • @ashesGeek

Alright, we're finally on epic season 3 finale.
I understand "Dinosaurs Seen in Sewers" is a rehash of 2003 series "Rogue in The House", but still I find a good episode and great build up for invasion. I respect creators focused more on Zog himself and gave him a bond with Raph similar to 2003 Mikey to make ending more valuable. Not to mention, seeing Zog in bright mind trying to complete the mission was a pleasure. I've seen people complained that made him look like just a villian, but he was on cruel side in previous version and, as a soldier he did what he had to: help his people and not to mock his nation power with surrendering("Long live the Triceraton Empire!")
However, I agree the whole event was completely sudden. The Kraang invasion plan was taken throughout whole 2 seasons and "Into Dimension X" kept you prepared yet a bit nervous about the finale, that's one of the many things why "Invasion" felt "Crossroads of Destiny" level depressing.
Oh, I was waiting to talk about Bishop. Personally, I like 2003 and IDW versions of him more but still 2012 counterpart turned out to be great Mortu and got involved more so I have nothing against this case.
Well, now you feel how some fans were disappointed 2003 Shredder turned out to be an alien just for the sake of showing cutting off the head in season 1. The popular character who had motivs, principles and mirroring Splinter and Leo turned out to be wannabe tyrant just wanting to destroy Utroms and we had 3 of them instead of giving Bishop or other villians a spotlight. Gladly C'hrell made it to the comics and was actually a better character than the debut version in my opinion.
I enjoyed Kraang/Triceratons story, it wasn't completely necessary since Kurtzman's reveal but still a nice expansion of the universe. And yes, Kraang Prime and Kraang Subprime are dead after the explosion.
It's surprising but after 2003 series I would never expect Triceratons to be great strategists until this. They made Mozar truly cunning and brutal admiral, he had everything under control for the most part of finale and Turtles were barely the mediocre danger. Though, I miss his robotic hand, works as fitting addition to steel beak, albugo and multiple battle scars.
Talking about Shredder, I'm just going to agree with other people comments about Foot Clan destruction and lies thing. I think Saki decided to kill Splinter because of accepting he doesn't know how exactly to save Karai anymore. He even didn't want to do anything about invasion since he has lost a reason to fight and decided to help only to let her survive. So, I guess Shredder knew the Earth is doomed and kinda "avenged" the daughter by killing the enemy.
Besides, the first time Shredder actually killed Splinter and it was hidden a very little.
Seeing device is unstoppable, everything and everybody sent into black hole especially Ice Cream Kitty and Dr Cluckingsworth, group sitting and Mikey crying on Splinter is hard. The best thing scene and characters are taken seriously just like 2003 series. There's something weird about such creators making kids show having more better quality brutal, naughty, gruesome stuff than many "adult" shows and cartoons.
Hope you're fine or, at least starting to feel a little bit better. Excited to see your reaction to space arc, 3 of my favorite characters and to meet new old bad guy.
P.S I just remembered Triceratons were hinted back in season 2. There was a small sign on phone "The Triceratops are here" in "Pizza Face". Apparently Zog has been wandering through sewers more than a few months.

1:48 in the 1987 ninja turtles cartoon, they did say previously on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles twice, and not until season 10, the final season in the show.
I would have liked to see Mortu as well. Also did you know that Mortu is Utrom spelled backwards? When I saw the earth disintegrate, I just absolutely couldn’t believe it. I was so convinced I was seeing things or dreaming or something. It took me a long time to actually believe it. And Splinter. I also couldn’t believe that Shredder didn’t care that earth was being destroyed.

As for the episode here. Regarding Shredders borderline genocidal hatred of Splinter, I feel like Shen has long since stopped being a real factor in Shredders hate.
Some people just latch onto hatred and let it fester to an obscene degree, and the fact that he took Karai as a trophy and has had his face scarred by that faithful battle with Splinter has never really let him forget his grudge
