Dear Liza this opera was always beyond me! Going to hear Ninna Stemme sing it at ROH London next year. Your dramatic soprano is always in my ear. God Bless you. Fr Steve
This is my favorite version so far. Such heart-rending vulnerability from Elektra! Sometimes she sounds truly lost. And then her spite and venom almost choke her. I have never heard this aria sung with such deep identification with the character, nor with such insight. I am convinced Richard Strauss himself would bow.
Camryn Manheim sings opera ? ?
The acting is like she is singing a lullaby or a operetta-melodie...
Bad acting but try to find an Elektra out there that sings it better (why don't we see Nadine Secunde's Elektra somewhere around?). Funny that she missed exactly the same Agamemnon as Birgit Nilsson did in one of her Paris performances....
The voice is too warm for Electra-very musical though. Is this a concertato perofrmance?
Great singer... makes a mistake at 03:58 though.
She's not exactly inside the role is she! How could she forget the line "Agamemnon"? There's no rage here. She just seems a bit cross about something. Hardly Greek tragedy. Good voice though.
Bad actress, the voice is ok. She missed the Agamemnon-phrase at 3:58 as you mentioned. If you just look at her it seems like she is singing Elsa or Elisabeth. Definitely not Elektra. And the top c isn´t that extraordinary...
Connell couldn´t act. And yes, she was a good Chrysothemis and Elsa but definitely not Elektra. And because of all that she was extremely boring in that role. I saw her live once and wanted my money back ;-)
