  • Second episode in the series of videos of a day spent exploring Snowdonia National Park on the Royal Enfield Scram 411.
    Saturday 18th May 2024 and the days riding continues with us heading west through the valley in the direction of Penygroes. The route planned on the Beeline sees us bearing north as we approach Penygroes and heading up to the village of y Fron and the location of an old quarry. We did start to venture through the quarry but decided to turn back due to signs saying entry was prohibited. Subsequent perusal of Google Streetview shows the road through the quarry as accessible so a return visit is on the cards. Leaving y Fron we continue north to Rhosgadfan and onwards along narrow lanes to join the A4085 heading south back to Nant y Betws and Llyn Cwellyn.

    Great idea, Dave. leaving the Scram at your summer residence! For all these local ride outs😊. I've just covered 2000 miles on my Scram (Gupta) running so smooth, changed the fork oil to refresh it and it's far more comfortable......... it's averaging 95 mpg ! As a bonus.

      Thanks Graham, you're getting those miles on to Gupta top man! Stan is at 3k miles now and I'm absolutely loving having it over in Wales which I'd done it a lot sooner. They are incredibly economical bikes aren't they?

    Another tonic Dave, watching this has given me the impetus to go to Snowdonia next week as my Swiss trip was postponed. Lost my brother on Sunday so will be having some "alone" time to remember the good times. What better way than on the bike.

      Hi Mick, sincere condolences for the loss of your brother, so sorry to hear this 😔 Some alone time to reflect sounds like a good idea and Snowdonia is the perfect place to achieve this. Here if you need anything mate…

    Dave this is just magnificent . Your sense of fulfillment makes perfect sense to me. Getting away from towns and cities into the countryside or by the sea. Marvellous. I've only been able to watch a small part of this so far as I have to get sorted this morning but I'll enjoy the ride all the more this evening. Many many thanks. Peter

      Hello Peter, yes riding my bikes really is my happy place, I find it helps me to achieve clarity of thought and clear my mind of the clutter than comes from living in an urban environment and spending time in the city. I was in Birmingham City centre yesterday and it is now such an alien environment, despite growing up nearby and spending a lot of time there as a youngster. Hope you enjoy the rest of the video and I shall be watching yours this evening, a marvellous way to relax and unwind 👍🏻😀

      @@MerciaMoto Yes Dave I'll be here watching you as you watch me 😂.
      Had to take the bus into Lancaster this morning to collect new specs. It too is just alien and that's very small compared with Birmingham. See you here tonight around 8.30pm 👍

    love it Dave.. So many memories of wonder what's up there. The sun is up there so, so we are. I got really good at 12 point turns on unadopted single track. many many Jurassic park type moments . Only meant for farmers on their quads feeding the livestock. haahha not able to say sorry mate me sat nav has thrown a wobbly.

    Hello Dave, I agree about the importance of being in the countryside. I did just that today on my Hunter, but I must clean the bike tomorrow because it brought quite a bit of countryside home with it. Unmade roads tend to do that with gunge filed craters🤣

    • @MerciaMoto
      @MerciaMoto  Před měsícem

      Morning Paul, countryside and motorbikes, a match made in heaven! I brought a large amount of Norfolk home the week before last 😬 the roads peppered with gunge filled craters are the best roads. That’s something I’d never imagine myself saying a few years ago 😂😂 Have a great weekend! 👍🏻

    Yes. Snowdonia just about edges it over how I remember Swansea Dave. It's pretty close though ! 😂
    Great idea to leave Stan in Wales and it looks like the two of you are really enjoying your time there.
    Lovely video and audio quality as always Dave. This helmet seems to be working fine.
    I was out on Norman ON THE ROADS this morning and I must say that the 411 engine really has grown on me over time !
    It feels a bit like I am limiting Norman by more or less only having him for the mountain trails. He's very happy and enjoyable on the roads, just like your Stan !
    Thanks for sharing Dave,
    Garry & Ruby

      Stan and me really are living our best lives over there Garry, thanks for the feedback on the sound quality, what might sound OK to me might sound awful to viewers, especially as I went deaf in my left ear yesterday, fortunately normal service has now resumed! 😬 You’re right the 411 engines at marvellous and Stan has loosened up beautifully now sitting around 3k miles. I would t worry about limiting Norman, I’m the same with Stan, he takes me on the more off the beaten track rides. Have a great weekend 👍🏻😀

    This has been a ride of such contrasts Dave. The earlier part with spectacular views, the villages where perhaps the quarry workers and families live, the great mountains if slate debris, then down along beautiful country lanes and onto the faster more open road. And all in under half an hour! I noticed the Beeline working it's liitle socks off for you there (now I understand more about it, it makes more sense.
    We look forward to the next episode in the continung adventuring of Stan in Snowdonia. 🤗

      Thanks Peter, it struck me when I was riding how the landscape was changing in such a short distance. This has made me want to explore more of the lesser known parts of Snowdonia which tend to be overlooked as folks focus on the more scenic landscapes. Have a great weekend, looks like we might be in for some 🌞👍🏻

    5:15 A tricky one for a non-Welsh person, in fairness! It's "nant" followed be "lle", as if a separate word. Nant is easy enough, but Lle is hard to write down...it's that weird tongue thing you have to do, with all "Ll" bits in Welsh words! I can't explain here how the "Ll" is formed, but the "Lle" should rhyme with "Play", as a Yorkshire person would say it! Anyway, another great video...greetings from Llanelli! Have a go at that one, lol! 😁😁

      Thank you, really appreciate the steer on pronunciation, I say thanks in an video coming in the near future 😀 I’m familiar with the Ll pronunciation as my Welsh late fathers middle name is Llewelyn, I find it really annoying when I hear it pronounced Lewelyn. Great to hear you’re enjoying the videos and please keep the pronunciation advise coming 😀👍🏻

    I've known it as "Snowdon" and "Snowdonia" all my life, and I'm now 57...so I'm glad to see you refer to it by the original name! I'll never call "Eryri", just because of some sudden PC b*llocks! Changing the name of something doesn't change what is is, so why do it? Should the names of EVERY place in Wales be changed to the Welsh version? Ridiculous!

    • @MerciaMoto
      @MerciaMoto  Před měsícem

      I’m torn between using the name we know and love and the new name, it’s great to hear the perspective from a Welsh person, Snowdon it shall remain! 👍🏻
