for the people who want the social stigma of eating canned fish in the break room without actually eating fish!
It probably smells better, so maybe that helps?
@@britinmadrid It doesnt.
Vegan tuna smells worse than actual fish - I couldnt get the stuff to my mouth, it was that bad.
(I like natto, bleu cheese, durian, stirfried kimchi, loads of fermented foods - and vegan tuna was where I drew the line)
good point, and likely smells better than your average vegetarian too!! LOL ;D@@britinmadrid
Yes but those kind of people look and smell horrendous to begin with.. so.. there that
there is a lot less social stigma to eating canned fish compared to the people who have the audacity to microwave their fish i the break room
Man can't wait to put my canned salad on my salad!
lol
Best comment! ;D
this channel strangely comforted the F out of me for the first 3 days after a terrible break up
One day at a time. Get out of the house, do things to make yourself happy/laugh, spend time with friends, switch up your living space so its different than it was during the relationship.
It's ok to be sad, its ok to feel hurt by things, it takes time to move on.
❤❤❤
I was trolling my garden the other day, and I hooked a Turnip, the fight was lackluster to say the least.
Try outside of mating season, buddy.
@@mercster Broody Turnips fight harder to protect their Niplets.
Beware the Apex Turnip - they're known as Tucks and their hide is as woody as an overwintered carrot.
Also try fly fishing for them, they rise to the right pattern just like a big rainbow trout!! LOL ;D
😂
Got a nice Striper the other day behind the woodpile
$10 can of enoki mushroom in oil
i also preferred the "crab" one. Pet peeve of mine, though, is when people try to market veg food as a substitute for meat. Like, just let the mushrooms stand on their own.
Yeah Mike, I'm sure there is a market for interesting tinned side dishes that can be deployed alongside conservas. I think it is a little confusing to say "think of this as fish." Also, it didn't come out while I was shooting, but I certainly had the thought that it is so audacious to not only call the mushrooms crab (which I get, with the appearance), but to call it SNOW crab! I mean, maybe I am not a crab meat texture expert, but the comparison reaches so hard!
Second this.
I LOVE vegetables and fungi, but not vegetables and fungi pretending to be meat - its a waste of good veggies/fungi and leaves you feeling cheated in the meat department.
Bottomline: its just sad.
They wouldn't be able to charge out the wazoo for that though, nor would they get any "curiosity" buys.
I used to love veggie burgers when they actually tasted like veggies. Don't touch them since they started trying to make them taste like meat. Veggies have great flavors on their own; they don't need to pretend to be meat or fish. Love the canned fish. 😋
i am in fact a snow crab@@CannedFishFiles
Just came from the Removing the Fear vid and jeeze, this guy went from "cute little sardine guy" to Sardine Chad in a year 🤯
Just pickle the mushrooms and sell them in glass for way cheaper.
Pickled mushrooms are fantastic. Solved the oil issue.
Love canned and jarred mushrooms! ❤
there's already lots of Asian brands for jarred mushrooms that are pickled or seasoned in some way.
I got halfway through the video when I realised..."By god- I'm going to subscribe to a canned fish youtube channel". Good stuff.
I find it kind of funny that the video that got me into dines is actually about canned veggies. Keep up the great work!
I want some imitation imitation crab.
I only genuinely like highly processed fake crab meat
I HAD to order a tshirt from the deen lord himself
I LOVE THE MUSIC almost as much as the sardines and other canned fish and fish-like foods. Thank you 🥲
My new favorite channel!
Even though the marketing is completely ridiculous …. You gave it a chance
Take celery root and dice it. Mix with sardines, red onion, and celery and you have a wonderful lunch.
Raw celery root?
I’ve never eaten any kind of fish, it’s just never been a food item to me, yet here I am watching the canned fish files. What am I even doing here?
I am so glad I found this channel lol the quality content has kept me watching for the past couple of hours 😂 keep up the good work
What are we even doing here? We're bending the rules, Matthew, bending the rules. Great content, you're making me look bad asa chef.😂
Extra virgin olive oil and water is the only sardines ill eat.
I used to make vegan "fish" n' chips. Just extra firm tofu, pressed and dredged in cornstarch and kelp powder, then beer battered.
Not exactly fish, just nautical tasting tofu, but damn was it good with malt vinegar.
why not just call it fried tofu? why try to pretend its something it isnt?
@@ownlywon because it was nautical
Tofu is underrated. So many things too do with it
@@ownlywonWe live in a culture that eats meat. The dishes we all grew up eating were meat. Nothing wrong with somebody trying to enjoy the foods they're used to in a way that doesn't involve eating animals.
I’ve had better imitation fish at vegetarian Chinese restaurants. The Chinese restaurant I used to go to did a great job replicating the texture and flavor of fish with tofu skin, seaweed, and seasoning. As a person who eats real fish I liked it.
I ate a can of Pamplona Sardines in Olive Oil watching this video. It was ok.
What a fun niche of youtube!
what am i even doing here? i'm ordering each shirt for sure.
There’s nothing sustainable about $32/lb vegetables.
I think these would both be good sides to eat with deenz or other canned fish.
Why not just mash mash mash into a deen salad 🥗 ummm yummy!
Or save yourself some money and buy celery root and mushrooms.
True, but then you will miss out on the "virtue signaling" opportunity that goes with a plant-based diet. And you are not saving the planet by eating plants, which, ironically, are spelled only one more letter away from planEt! LOL ;D@@mercster
@@ronschlorff7089 lulz, right.
@@ronschlorff7089most off the worlds crops is consumed by livestock, You’re simply wrong
As a vegetarian, watching your videos I’m becoming increasingly convinced that deens are the chickpea of the seas
Thanks!
Perhaps the Seed to Surf Celery Root Whitefish would come alive with a splash or two of Salsa Espinaler Appetizer Sauce!
Hmmm, celery and a red tangy liquid, why do I think of a bloody Mary! Hey that could work!! ;D
I'd try them, but not at those prices.
I can usually enjoy plant based alternatives for the novelty,
but I tried some "plant-based tuna" a while ago and it was pretty chewy and gross.
Newer to the channel. The mushrooms sounds good but I don't know if there gonna put me on the Deenz list.
Im buying a what are we doin here shirt Matt ty.
Neat. Im not a vegan, and I usually feel like canned fish are definitely environmentally sustainable and healthy enough to eat whenever I damn well feel like it, but I do occasionally go for meat substitutes. As cool as, like, impssible meat is, I prefer substitutes that dont fully play pretend and try to fool you. Like, I already know, I just want something that fills the niche. The enoki one sounds really good. I bet you could solve or mitigate the oil concern if you let it rest on a paper towel or put it on a bacon or cooling rack in the oven for just a few minutes to get the oil extra viscous and likely to slide off (and then put it on a paper towel).
Curious if they had added any liquid amino? So much umami to be had but maybe it would just be redundant? Idk, just thinking out loud and enjoying your videos. Been frequently checking your sub count and you're blowing up lately. Happy new year you deserve it
Can you do a video on what to eat sardines with?
Goated as always 💯
Merch! hell yeah!
Not a staple for my pantry but I might keep a can or two around for guests.
What is the backing music beat in his videos. I can't get it out of my head
❤Awesome Video Bro 🤘🐟
Interesting! I hope to see lab grown canned fish meat someday.
"Does this look like fish? Idk." 😂
Is this a UPF or just flavored mushroom? I love veggie patties ect but not so much when they make meat alternatives by chemically altering oils and proteins.
I need me some of that fugazi fish
But how would it pair with a good can of the swimmy stuff?
Former vegetarian here. I was of the "make it just like meat" variety. Perhaps it's why I went back to meat. Anyhew mushrooms are wonderful but I would have hoped for a fake piece of fish made of mashed mushrooms, herbs and spices with an edible fake spine and skin being fun.
Hey matt, ive never had sardines before. Only ever had canned tuna. What would be a good, cheap brand to try out? Should i try the different flavors? They all sound good. Anyway, thanks in advanced and keep up the good work
He has a sardine starter guide on the channel.
First, it is imperative to try the ones that they sell at your local corner store or gas station
what i don't understand is why don't most of these vegan alternatives don't utilize mushrooms more since they off similar textures to meat along with taste
Imagine the mark-up on this product 😂😂😂
Not a vegan, but i still want to try it.
I've noticed these in stores recently. Grossed me out immediately.
Genuine question. I try to eat vegetarian or vegan as often as I can. So mad respect for that. But. Why do vegans need fake meat options? 🤔 That's always confued me. 🤷🏽♀️ This was super interesting.
do you ever get deen oil or fake fish juice on your keyboard?
Yeah yeah yeah, canned vegetables. Who would have thunk it 😮
I'm always down for mushrooms.
What is the movie at 7:34?
Vegan : Hey, try this meat substitute. It doesn't smell like meat. It doesn't taste like meat. It doesn't look like meat. But hey, we call it a meat name like bacon or fish. Try it.
Me : You know, I really do like vegetables. I also like drag. I do not like vegetables in drag. I love a good vegan dish... so long as they are not trying to replicate something it isn't.
I would love to attend at tinned fish party :DD
Vegans showing up to a tinned fish party need to be asked politely yet firmly to leave.
i dont mind people not wanting to eat meat but when you charge more for the product your trying to replace
just what I wanted, canned food with 0g of protein!
That’s Soylent Green!
why is this a thing? lol nice review
if it comes in a box the tin should also be square.
I hear enoki mushroom and I think Antonio Inoki
Nice seeing an ATHF reference in a deen vid!
Mushrooms always gonna win .
I watch because it's Matt, but im not going to touch this stuff. I've learned my lesson about fake seafood - never again.
Let the veggies shine on their own merits, not mimicking other things; give me a tin of seaweed blended with agar agar and shaped into tiny swedish fish. I would give that higher praise for being fun and subverting expectations (canned fish).
(Also: No Beyond or Impossible products. Indigestion/GI issues for the next day and a half every single time. Boca Burgers are fine, they taste like gas station burgers, but that's not a high bar in itself).
"Gas station burgers" now we are into the realm of haute cuisine for sure. Reminds me of the old diner/gas stations seen on old Route 66. Still have some of their billboards up announcing: "Eat Here and Get Gas"!! LOL ;D
👏👏👏❤❤❤❤
I think the algorithm recommended this video to me because of my Ven diagram of mechanical keyboards & tinned fish products. Am I cool?
What are we even doing here, indeed.
it's interesting but the packaging makes it seem expensive.
10 dollars a can..... for something you couldnt pay me to eat
My problem with vegan food is that most seem like they don't even try. It will claim to be one thing but then it is literally just a vegetable in marinade, and will taste just like a vegetable in marinade. Won't even taste close to what it's claiming to be.
Coney Island Whitefish is vegan, isn’t it? They should can that!
Where do you think the "white" comes from...? That's not plant-based.
@@eviloatmeal ha!
You nasty, playuh
I could see using this in a dish. But lets call a spade a spade. It's not vegan fish, it's canned veggies.
Ooh carcinogenic sunflower oil ❤❤ yummy
At least you don't put mayo on your sardines God dam
No omega 3s or protein.
What are we even doing here?
They look great but i just dont understand why they have to say its fish like!
I've never seen or heard of anything like this! It's not the kind of thing I'd normally eat (since I'm not vegan), but I'd certainly try it.
I mean, besides the marketing, these are just pickled vegetables. Why wouldn’t you normally eat vegetables?
@@derekschinke2512 Because these are NOT normal vegetables and are extremely expensive for what they are! Only vegans normally buy this sort of meat substitute nonsense. Anyone else just does it out of curiosity.
This looks like a train wreck and I’m here for it. Mushrooms saturated in grease, what more is there to say?
Yes, I don't mind that part since I "grease" up my shrooms in butter before I sauté them!! Yummier than what this looks like I must say! ;D
The macros tho 😢
Hot take, oysters are vegan sea food.
What are we even doing here? 👁️🫦👁️🐟
I appreciate the enthusiasm of all these animal emulation startups, and I'm sure there is a market for it, but this leaves a lot to be desired when it's just another can of seaweed-soaked vegetables. But keep rockin', Seed to Surf! Eventually you'll either catch up to the demand for real seafood taste and texture, or the market will catch up to the desire to eliminate seafood production.
Honestly, small sea creatures predate a lot of vegetation and basically every mammal. Mollusks have extremely rudimentary nervous systems and no pain receptors at all. They’re just a pump and a filter.
And chickens make eggs whether they’re fertile or not, so eating cage free, local eggs has absolutely no morality attached to it.
Eating honey encourages bees to be bred, whose numbers are dwindling. Bees also are just a nervous system response, they’re not quasi-conscious like a smart pig or a dolphin. And I promise it’s bug genocide in Agave fields. Agave is also pretty unstable.
The hard line against eating anything in the animalia category just seems silly to me.
If someone likes the taste of this product I’m glad for them, but canned prey-fish is probably the most sustainable animal protein besides eggs.
There is no enthusiasm, they just want to make a shitton of money with no effort. These cans are expensive, you can get real fish for less, something that is actually worth that money too.
Yeah I don’t know, the marketing is kinda dumb. Just sell it as canned vegetables and mushrooms in oil. There’s no need for saying it’s vegan fish. I’m not opposed to canned vegetables, but calling it vegan tinned fish is just insulting and a lie, I wouldn’t buy it out of spite. Nothing against vegan food either, there are certainly vegan food that is delicious.
gotta love a fresh episode, but idk man canned veggies pretending to be fish? questionable
They could have at least fermented it or tried to give some stink to it otherwise.
Sorry, I don't enjoy pretending to eat seafood, I like to actually eat seafood!
looks ok and from the sound of it also tasted good but come on, look at the price...
If you know you know 🌚🌝
Fake fish? What ARE we even doin here?
Are you going to have e michael jones on when you finally get around to some oysters
Soylent green is People!
no really, what are we even doing here?
how dare you
