    Funny enough that the Lotus renault car probably had the loudest and also the worst blown diffuser effect because they tried with the front/middle blowing instead of rear blowing like RBR and many other teams

    • @zachtan
      @zachtan Před rokem +138

      Actually, it provided more stable airflow returns, but the problem was that it couldn’t be developed any further in the season - it peaked in the opening round.
      McLaren’s initial “air curtain” was probably the worst - because they ended up reverting back to the normal exhaust for a few rounds.

    • @mysticzz6685

      @@zachtan The problem was also that car lacked massive amount of rear downforce grip hence why it was so slow towards the second half of the season (lotus renault)

    • @p.kuansuwan2070
      @p.kuansuwan2070 Před rokem +96

      A diffuser is an aerodynamic device usually placed at the rear of the cars. They “diffuse” air flow from the belly of the cars to make the pressure drop, thus, the cars are pushed down by the top-side flow (difference in top-side and underfloor pressure.)
      A blown diffuser is just a diffuser and floor which effect were *further enhanced by exhaust flow.* ->”blown”
      Tldr : At the back, glues the cars to the ground, enhanced by exhaust flow. SOUNDS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING TOO! (from engine mapping, codes.)

      @@TboloT-gd5os Nah any V6T engine from 2018-2022 is good in terms of sound, the Renault and Honda are the best, I like the whine of the Renault's, and the blown-defuser-like-downshifts sound of the Honda's.
      But in general I absolutely adore the tone itself of the engine, really unique and gives it character, especially the Mercedes I think it has the best tone of all.
      I wish it was louder tho, I think the muffled exhausts just ruin it, if not for the loudness it MAYBE would've gotten close to the V10 and V8's.
      That doesn't mean it's bad tho, I still like it, you may hate it, to each their own.

    And the motivation for all this can be summarized in just three points:
    1) Engines with small displacements but enormous compression ratios
    2) Direct and very short diffusers: from the combustion chamber to the terminal
    exhaust, only 40-50 cm and no filter. Basically a machine gun
    7.62 mounted on an F1
    3) See above: small volume (2.4l) + huge quantities of
    compression (between 13.0:1 and 17.0:1 rocket stuff) = 800/850HP
    Modern V6s have the same degree of compression, if not even higher and what's more they have very high pressure Turbos: yes, modern V6s fire even better with every downshift... too bad about the rest of the soundtrack.
    That's it folks.

      On an engine like that?
