Actually, it provided more stable airflow returns, but the problem was that it couldn’t be developed any further in the season - it peaked in the opening round. McLaren’s initial “air curtain” was probably the worst - because they ended up reverting back to the normal exhaust for a few rounds.

@@TboloT-gd5os Nah any V6T engine from 2018-2022 is good in terms of sound, the Renault and Honda are the best, I like the whine of the Renault's, and the blown-defuser-like-downshifts sound of the Honda's. But in general I absolutely adore the tone itself of the engine, really unique and gives it character, especially the Mercedes I think it has the best tone of all. These cars were light and not as powerful as today's. It was possible to keep them on the road even in a strong rain. Not easy but possible. Today's cars are undrivable on full wet cause there's no wet tire which will provide enough grip for their power and weight. There's a chance the lighter cars will be back eventually but sadly we'll never get the old F1 back
Not every driver is capable of driving in the wet like that. If everything is about the car it dilutes the sport, in reality it’s 50/50 between car and driver

Yeah, I don't really watch F1 anymore, but I do watch the Netflix series and I'm always saddened by how un-F1-like the cars sound now. The cars are still amazing in how they brake and turn but they just don't sound as furious as they should.
Honestly it's not even worth watching modern F1 as a new fan, you're watching the worst era with the most petty regulations because someone cried they couldn't do it as well as you. Even the V6s are shit compared to something like the 98T
