I'm Mariah Alice, and I live the "solo female van life" with my dog, Finn. We've been on the road full time since June of 2020, and although our road has been met with what feels like a zillion ups and downs, we've finally gotten to the point where living in a van feels like home. Sometimes we're alone in the woods, sometimes we're alone in a desert, sometimes we're chasing snow or thunderstorms, sometimes we're trying to see all 50 states, and sometimes we're making weekly videos here on CZcams talking about our feelings, anxiety, loneliness, seasonal extreme sadness..... yeah. I don't know what I'm doing with my life. And that's okay. I think :)

Wow. That’s wild that you were in such a serious accident and didn’t get hurt. Three years ago, my Xterra rolled across three lanes of traffic at 70 mph. Lost my home and vehicle in about four seconds. But same, not a single scratch. I had a similar realization about mortality and that literally every day is a gift. Let’s campfire sooon

I thought I had a spider bite in the beginning of summer - it was some sort of break in my skin, we never figured out what caused it. But bacteria got in there, and I ended up with flesh eating bacteria disease, and was hospitalised most of the summer. Keep it clean and keep an eye on it. Because of what I experienced, I’d get it checked out, but that’s me :)

Another great video, Mariah! I’m glad you found more friends on the road. :) I agree with the others in that you might want to have a doctor take a look at your elbow! It could even be a staph infection, which is extremely painful and would require antibiotics right away. Take care of yourself and have a great week!

Hey girl you most likely need to get your elbow seen that redness looks like cellulitis to this ER nurse. Could be a Brown Recluse ? Everything you said on you video is exactly what the complaints are from people who had those bites. So if it still hurts the same after another24 to 48 hours remains red and the area is warmer than the surrounding tissue go get it seen and if it appears to be looking like an abscess cover it and go to a clinic. I really enjoy your channel by the way.

Hugs and prayers to you đŸ™â€ Crying is healthy. It's good having emotions. Do you have any triple antibiotic cream?Hope this helps.. ❀ Clean the wound with mild soap and water. Apply an antibiotic ointment three times a day to help prevent infection. Apply a cool compress over the bite for 15 minutes each hour. Use a clean cloth dampened with water or filled with ice.

Hi Mariah, I wanted to share with you how much I admire your willingness to share both of your journeys. The internal and external adventure in being human. My wife and I were touched by the self inquiry you did about how a year ago you wouldn't have been open to connecting with the fellow travelers you did at this time in your life. I'm 78 and hearing you say that this group that you met were older 30s / 40s and that you couldn't imagine being open to a connection with them a year ago. Well, you drew us in, and you have our admiration and wishes for many more expanding adventures in your journeys. Be safe...

Regarding the spider bite, an easy remedy for future reference is to mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with just enough water to create a paste. Spread it on the bite and it will help draw out the poison.

I had a bad spider bite on my calf a few years ago. I work on a film set so I had a medic checking it every day and she wanted me to keep it well bandaged with a lot of neosporin inside the bandage. In an unrelated coincidence I was also getting sicker and sicker and so she made me go to the doctor because she was concerned about MRSA. The sick feeling turned out to be Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever from a tick bite and they cultured the spider bite and it was actually not terribly infected despite the fact the skin was turning black at the puncture. Doc said it was probably all the neosporin and bandage changing that kept that from getting worse. Yeah I learned a lot about bugbites that summer.

I got a van with a bed because I got back pain and I need to lay flat for relief . I have done a few small trips but nothing like you do. How’s the spider bite? Years ago a girl In college was bit and that thing stuck around for months. If it’s MRSA it would have looked like volcano with in three days. If MRSA go to ER right away. I’m sure you are OK . Desert tarantulas are pretty common in the desert SW, mostly in Texas and New Mexico. They do bite and it is a tad painful when it happens, much like a bee or wasp sting, but is not life threatening. Their poison is pretty lame on the scale of spider bites. In fact, these "brown back" tarantulas usually won't bite unless pressured.

Bonjour Mariah from The French part of Canada, QuĂ©bec. Maybe you’ll read this, probably you won’t. Have seen all your videos.
A few thoughts on anxiety. As a solo female, you do have to be concious of all that go wrong : what if they don’t like me, what if i don’t like them, what if a crazy person knocks on the door, etc.
All those things are possible, but unlikely. Be prepared, but also entertain the thought that they may like you, and you them. That knock might be from someone super cool that is offering help or wanting to invite you to a camp fire. Good things are also possible.
I like that you keep it real. Fin is a great dog.

Hai, in case of a spiderbite you can cool the area, preferably with a wet cloth or washcloth with a few ice cubes in it. After the area has cooled slightly, apply an anti-inflammatory. If you suffer from pain, take a paracetamol. Keep an eye on the bite for 24 hours and consult your doctor if the symptoms worsen. Hopefully it is just sore for a day. Keep on going, you are living your life.

Hi!. I'm from Argentina a few days ago I'm looking for someone's channel that tells what it's like to live day by day in a van. Finding your channel was great.
Your van is very beautiful... I think the hardest part of living alone is dealing with anxiety and loneliness. But it is beautiful to be able to go through different places

I would get some pain cream like neosporin. I am glad you had that amazing time with new and old friends. It helps build us up and gives us a reason to live life. Hugs and please take care of your elbow. Lots of love from a mama bear in Colorado.

This was one of the most meaningful videos of yours for me. I've been watching your videos a lot recently when I got back into the groove of wanting to live such a life, like van life, even though its not achievable for me right now. I love the lessons in this video, they really match my life right now and I know that me watching this video happened for a reason and I am so grateful. Though it might have been a special experience for you in one way, it is special for so many others too. Thanks for posting this Mariah

You sharing your emotions ( crying ) are part of what brings us ( your audience) closer to you and makes us care about you and your well being. Spider đŸ•· bites do hurt a lot, mine took about 3 weeks for the pain to be less. It took a good month to not bother as much. If you have charcoal make a paste and apply it to make the poison less irritating. I had a patch for like 6 months. If you have allergic reaction or feel your body is reacting to it then see a doctor

Its a very special moment when you can spend time with friends. You are young and still able to easily move around. Take life by the cahones and enjoy it! Soak it up.:) That was so cool that scotts dad helped you with those broken things on your van. About your spider bite. That is an awful place to get bit when it is over the joint. If it is throbbing Id definitely get seen by doc for it. You do not want to get infection from it involving your joint. If you start seeing red streaks in it and it feels hot to touch you def need to go to doc. Spider bites are awful. especially if it is a brown recluse bite. Good luck with it. Keep up the good work with learning the guitar.

I know it's late, but for future knowledge, if you get a spider bite, or even a stinging nettle kind of deal, those old time drawing salves actually do work. We have a ton of poisonous plants and biting insects/spiders here and those help bring swelling down and lower infection chances.

Lovely to see someone talking about the tears.....I sometimes feel like many people I am surrounded by are bundles of unresolved grief, which makes us pretty dysfunctional little pressure cookers.....as life unfolds, the reasons and the seasons for tears change, but grief needing to be felt remains a near constant....winter, for me, is an extra special opportunity for grieving time, so I give myself a lot of space for it, especially in winter....this winter after some grieving, I realized that once you have cried enough tears, all that is left is love.....another way of talking about it is to say that life is 49 percent suffering and 51 percent the heroic triumph over suffering......also....as you explore your grieving practice, you see that it is part of a profound and desperately needed exhalation.....allow the exhalation to prolong itself.....toxins long embedded are shaken loose and fall away like a washcloth wrung out.....the near-endless exhalation of the unprocessed past and the challenges of the present.....after a session one is as though stoned, and tomorrow there will be a lightness in the solar plexus and in the muscles all over the body.....keep on crying, sweetie....and keep on dreaming and videoing when you feel like it...........

Freedom, community, a sense of adventure and uncertainty and just figuring it out because you know that travel and adventure is far better than just sitting at a desk all day. You make all of the trials of vanlife seem manageable and part of the journey. ❀

sounds like a spider bite but in AZ don't know what spider it would have been so to be on safe side I'd goin into Sedona and get it looked at medically but to be sure & if you need medicine to heal it. take care - you'll be ok - I'm glad you met Thomas and he's a good guy.....Be safe and get you elbow looked. â€đŸ€—

On the spider bite, the soreness may mean you need to have the area drained. You can always give warm salt soaks a try to draw out any of the toxins that may be left in there. Honestly, if you start feeling bad please see a doctor. I had a bite on my arm and had to have it drained 3 times before it could begin healing. Pop into a clinic somewhere and let a doctor take a look. So very glad you were touched by kindness and compassion of your new friends. We need more of that in our world these days. I'm sure you will pay it forward. Blessings and safe travels.

I've gone thru stages where I ve def felt alone, and my choices made it worse. That being said, I've spend time in Mexico, Canada, Spain, Italy, and France.. I quit my job and had some of the best years of my life. Traveling and not working is special time of your story...but looking back its more like a long summer then permeant life. im back now, living 'normally', and reflecting on my adventures. Those crazy people I made camp with...or awkwardly met at a gas station or trail head, are some of my best times. Push on for more experiences, you'll rarely regret it.
