Invisalign allergic reaction? Swollen lips

Orthodontist Dr. Bailey is treating herself with Invisalign aligners and after a new tray change, woke up to swollen itchy lips. She called Invisalign support and was told that they are aware of this and have some solutions (like switching to a different aligner material) but was asked to switch back to the previous tray. She is awaiting a call back from the product safety team, which she was told was “backlogged and can take up to three days.” The customer support representative said that no further details can be released due to legal reasons.
All opinions expressed are based on Dr. Bailey’s specific treatment experience. A prescription is required for Invisalign treatment and in rare cases, allergic reaction(s) can occur. Also, the allergic reaction could be due to other causes.

I wasn't allergic to anything that I know of, but my lips and gums got swollen with another company's impression material... I had to do them twice , but later tries I was very prepared to wash the area quickly, so it wasn't that bad... First time, my lip was cut at the border... Had to wait a week to repeat impressions with healthier lips... I am on step 1 now and I am not allergic to the aligners... At least yet... Just letting people know...

38m, i'm one week in and my gums and lips are swollen, finding this process really difficult

It happened to me 😢I had it installed one week ago, haven’t used any cleanser so I guess is a reaction to the plastic 🫠

Hi Dr. Bailey. I began experiencing the same thing over the past two days and I’m wondering if you have any update on what came of this. My orthodontist says he’s never seen it happen

Have your orthodontist contact the health and safety team of the aligner company for help. There was a special preparation for the aligners that needed to be done.
