  • As part of our series in exploring how the power seats work in a Cadillac, Josh will go over the function of the seat transmission and how it interacts with other components. He will take apart, clean up, and put back together the power seat transmissions, which is the same process we use at Caddy Daddy for rebuilt units. These specific transmissions are from the late 60s to mid 70s Cadillacs that had bucket seats in them. This process should be a helpful guide if you are looking to diagnose your Cadillac power seat problems.
    If you have any questions, please let us know in the comments section below.

    This video is great, thanks! Do you have a video planned for rebuilding a power door lock actuator (72 coupe)?

    • @Caddydaddy
      @Caddydaddy  Před rokem

      The lock actuators are simply solenoids and there is really nothing to service inside. All that can be done is try and clean and lubricate the one moving part. Josh

    Awesome video! My 79 Cadillac Deville with bucket seats has an issue on the passenger side. Every movement on the switch buttons make something under the seat click but the seat does not move. Just like there’s something stuck or not engaging but definitely getting power. What might this mean?

    • @Caddydaddy
      @Caddydaddy  Před 2 lety

      Since you mentioned hearing a click, that leads me to believe you have the 6-way power seats. That system has two power sources, one for the seat transmission (the likely source of the click) and another for the motor. Check that the motor is getting power with a high-current test lamp. If there is power, then something is mechanically bound up, if no power, then there is an electrical problem. If the problem is mechanical, then you'll need to remove the seat to inspect, clean, and lubricate all the moving parts. Getting a seat that will not move out can be a very difficult and frustrating task since some bolts might be obstructed. Josh

    thank you for your vid on the transmission .. im having trouble with the motor . i have it out of the 73 eldorado. 3 wires 1 brown active on a single plug , a yellow and blk and a green on wht . to test this motor what wires do i hook onto power, many thanks albert (australia)

    • @Caddydaddy
      @Caddydaddy  Před 2 lety

      To test the seat motor ground the case. Then apply 12 volts to the brown wire and one of the other wires at the same time. Note the direction of rotation of the motor. Now, connect the brown wire and the other wire to 12 volts. The motor should spin in the opposite direction. Do not leave power connected to the brown wire without power to one of the other two wires.
