Followed your repair instructions and was able to bring back to life the 6-way power seat switch for my 1970 Buick Electra. Thank you!
Glad you got the switch working Robert. Josh
Josh how much trans fluid should i put in after a service ? thanks for all you do !
It can vary depending on things like if you drained the torque converter or not. The service manual for your year and model will give the amount for a full service. I usually estimate the amount I drained out, then refill with that amount of fluid. Start the engine and check the level and add more as necessary. Remember that the level will read low when the transmission is cold so don't overfill it. Josh
That was my favorite gm of all time and it was fast for a big heavy car
Hello friend, how are you, do you have a link to install the distributor for the 390 cadillac 1960?
We don't have a video, but it is like any other GM distributor; I'm sure there is a video out there. When doing the job with the engine on TDC #1 the contact on the rotor should be in a position slightly clockwise from pointing directly to the rear of the car; that is #1 on the cap. The window on the side of the cap should be towards the driver's side with the oiler pointed slightly forward. The most difficult part is getting the oil pump drive to engage with the distributor shaft. A long screwdriver will allow you to turn the pump drive slightly so it will align with the distributor. Josh
A very nice video. I have often enough made this the last 31 years. It is a wonderful easy technology.
Thanks for the very nice video. Somewhere there should be the copper contacts for the solenoid that you can turn 180* individually. Do you have for it a spring?
You are correct. Many designs allow for the contact to be flipped over to be good as new. Josh
In the air leveling valve of 77 models an oil is to the damping. What oil is this?
Damping is provided by small orifices in the fittings, not oil. The only oil in the system is in the sealed shock absorbers Josh
Do you know how to reassemble a soleinod for a 6 way seat for a 1957 Cadillac? There are 5 parts, a ball bearing, spring and two small metal parts, o e with a notch.
e-mail your request to Caddydaddy@caddydaddy.com
My Cadillac tail light rockets on my 2001 PT Cruiser are losing the red (from sun fading them over 20 years) in the middle of the light, and now they appear as white lights instead of red, which is obviously required by law. I'm a disabled unemployable senior lady who lives extremely below poverty level (13k) and currently in my car with no AC too. ( long story, living nightmare.) i need a cheap way to paint (?) the translucent plastic red again so I don't get a ticket. Have any advice for this old lady? Yhe lights work. It's the pointy housing that is my problem. They were originally installed by CA Cruisers but I now live in NV.
There is a produce made by VHT that is a translucent red paint for the purpose. It might be a bit difficult to locate locally, but check with hot rod and off road shops; they may have it in stock. Josh
I love you man I am from Iran and I have watched your videos and I hope to see more from you. Thanks a million.
Thanks for watching. Josh & John
excellent, super step by step
factory they have a big washer under bumper on lower a arms and a steering stop at the balljoint
great Video Thank You VERY Much!!!!
Much appreciated. Thank you for watching Josh.
Mine has the big air screw in the center front. Should I back that out 1.5 turns too?
1 1/2 is a good starting point. Turning it in richens the mixture and out leans it. Josh
I have a 1964 that was my grandpas and he Eliminated a lot of the vacuum lines. I am now trying to go back through them and fix it.And also add a vacuum trunk release
Your best bet would be to get a factory service manual and go through each vacuum operated subsystem one by one. The HVAC is very complicated to work on and understand. Josh
@johncoyle4125 ok I've got a shop manual for it and I've steadily been looking through it. But I was also wondering what the 2nd vacuume reservoir was used for. When I look. Through the manual for it.I never see anything referring to it. So I was wondering what it was used for and how it ties in
Are there any more detailed videos on vacuum system? For a 1964 cadillac coupe deville's series sixty two
Definitely helpful. Rebuilding the AFB on my 1960 Series 62 now and did not mark the secondary boosters when I removed them so I wasn’t sure how they went back in. I could see that the holes under them were different sizes so they were left/right specific but I had not set them in there yet so I didn’t know about the notch.
The only thngs that can get mixed up are the jets. Everything else only really goes one way unless you force it. Josh
@@Caddydaddy thanks. Yes I’m also finding that out.
Great video Fellas. I have a ‘50 Cadillac and I’m wondering if the windage tray is absolutely necessary?? Mine is hitting the bottom of the oil pan and it’s driving me crazy. I’m upside down on the floor and can’t get it to line up. I’ve bent and moved it around for hours. Can I just leave it out?? Thank You for any advice.
Very informative as i will need to fix mine. Not sure about the $900 price tag attached though. 😮
Is this system similar to the one on the 69 Eldorado? I have a small compressor mounted on the left wheelwell and what would appear to be some sort of proportioning valve bolted to the underside of the body, over the rear axle.
The '69 rear leveling is simpler than the '59. The compressor is under the hood and is vacuum operated. In the rear, unlike the '59 with leveling valves on each side of the car, the '69 only has one so it's much simpler. There is also no valve to fully lift the car as there is in the '59. Basically, you car has air shocks that are self-adjusting by the valve you noted under the car. Josh
@@johncoyle4125 Thank you for the response. I think this project may be put on the back burner, as I have a lot of other items on the punch list that have more priority. Steve
Great ideas !
1966 cadillac fleetwood 75 series rear wheel bearings, what way does the O ring face on the axle for correct fitting? thank you for a great service you provide!
The O-ring groove should be towards the inside.Josh
does the wheel bearing go on with O ring in first?, (66 fleetwood 75 sedan) i just removed my passenger side rear axle and the bearing has the O ring on the outside, hope you can understand me thank's. ps i love the you tubes you supply!!!
The manual makes no mention, but the illustration shows it to the inside. What is important is that the housing is clean and in good condition. A little gear oil helps it to go together easier. Josh
Looked everywhere for a 1975 Cadillac deville fuel tank and nothing. Where can i find one? Help please
Here is one i forgot to mention: If the radiator is low and the oil level is high, you might have a cracked block or bad head gasket. Drain a bit of oil and see if there is water. High oil could be caused by a bad fuel pump leaking gas into the crankcase, too.
Great tips !
Hey, great video. Do you have any information/content on removing the plastic radio bezel lens, and the plastic lens over the comfort control system? Thanks.
The radio bezel is crimped in place and there are tabs on the climate control. they will likely break if you try prying on them. There is no easy way to remove these parts and if you did, the printing on the back is very fragile and sometimes just wipes away if touched. Josh
Josh, I really enjoy your Videos. It is a pity that you don't make them anymore. I have a hard time understanding this type of cruise control. I have one in my '62 Cadillac. I ask myself if it is possible that the unit malfunctions in a way that I can't disengage it? That it keeps holding the throttle although it isn't desired anymore?
Nils, I'm still here answering questions, just not making many videos. Yes, the cruise control unit can malfunction in such a way as to not release the throttle. If the problem only involves the unit not disengaging when the brake pedal is pressed, then the trouble is in the switch or its adjustment. If cruise won't disengage by turning the dial to 'off' then the problem is either control cable adjustment or the cutout switch within the unit. The service manual explains the adjustment and testing procedures. Josh
I need parts for a Delco 1107678 can you help where to look
I’m looking for the bald top back windshield trims, can you point me out in direction?
🔧👋🏻🤠
Good working sis😊
Nice job, Gretchen. Was the the nut on the steering column when you started, or did I never put one on when we were moving the car around the shop?
Thanks for watching Josh
Nice video . Good to watch and learn some things.
Excellent video. This helped me so much thankyou CaddyDaddy!
Great
Been looking for these. Cool
Chrome ! They look great. Cool to see you making parts
Thanks, Ben I appreciate you watching. John
Would have liked to see you actually put the filter in the bowl so I know if I have the correct size filter for mine
I'm surprised as to how good the body looks, a lot of the panels are usually rusted out specially when it's a convertible model. Can't wait to see it done, it's been my dream car.
Thanks. We should have to driveable to get it in and out of the body shop in the next 30 days or so. John
I’ve purchased from you in the past, great company very knowledgeable. Regards, Dwayne with the 59’ from NYS
Thanks, Josh and John
I broke the clips and need new ones but can't find any,do you know where I can get them
That was my problem rebuilding them. If the clips were rusted away, there were no replacements. Josh Maybe some time we can have new ones made, but it's a long process John
So now I have to find a whole unit !!! Can't find one,if I can find a old one and take the clips I will do that !!!
I have built probably hundreds of oil pumps, shouldn't you flatten the surface on wear plate and check end play? I do a lot of Buick and Amc pumps and you have to be precise. Also on my caddy pump i flatened the end of the bypass hole and tapped the outside just to about a 1/2 past the cotter hole then with a allen screw and lock not i can adjust pressure. I do really enjoy the video though.
You make good points, sir. Viewers should always refer to their service manuals for specifications Jiosh
I vote for the chrome. 👍👍
I like the look as well. John
Only go chrome for a 60 special.
just a curiosity which size metering jet goes on which side
The jets are paired for the primaries and secondaries. The specific size of the jet depends on the application. Keep track of where they come from and I always suggest checking the service data to ensure the jets you have are correct for your engine. Many times the carburetor has been replaced with a generic replacement that is not properly tuned for your specific engine. Also, depending the ethanol content of the fuel in your area, you might want to go up a jet size to compensate for fule with a lower energy content. JOSH
I have a 1976 Cadillac Eldorado and I had a blown relay, I've replaced it but I think it burned out my resistor because now I have no speeds on my blower motor could it be the resistor? I can hear the fan operating it just won't go into any mode of being on so there's no air coming through the vents?
Before when the fan was working it took the blower motor turn on after about 10 minutes when the ignition was on so maybe that's part of the resistor problem too?
That climate control system is very complicated on those cars. All you can do is get the service manual, read the hell out of it, and follow the troubleshooting procedures. Josh
Nice 🤠👍🏻
Used to work in a caddy restoration shop in the 80s. 59 horn rings went for $600. exchange for your broken one with all the broken pieces. Tip for convertible servicing. Inverted flare unions and inverted flare plugs. Unscrew a hose. Put a union and plug on the hose and a plug in the pump. Take the other tube loose. Take the plug from the union on the hose and put it in the pump and screw the second hose into the union. Very little spillage if any. With the hoses disconnected from the pump one can move the top manually. Three inverted flare unions and six inverted flare plugs needed.
Thanks
