  • After our wonderful stay in the 'Green Bothy' wilderness hut, we find another one on the map that peaks our interest. We find ourselves on an increasingly difficult path leading to the next hut and are not sure if we are going to make it… This part of Scotland, called 'The Lowlands', is pretty hilly if you ask us and we ride through open valleys and dense forests. Our tour in the UK is sadly coming to an end. But from here we fly to our next adventure destination. A mystical island we have long been dreaming about ⛰

    I MUST comment. I've recently discovered these two beautiful intelligent poised adventurers. Oh, how I wish I could join them, and not just for their adventures. They impress me so much; I wish they were in my 80 yo world. BTW, how envious am I that I never found such a beautiful soulmate and partner in adventure. Such a calm loving relationship between these wonderful souls. I wish you both, and likeminded adventurers, the fulfillment of all your quests. Do NOT put it off. DO IT, as soon as you can. In later years, it's never about your $$$$. It's only about the people in your lives and the adventures you can share. Just seen this clip as you end your UK trip.
    Again and again you produce the most ( and best) video clips. All BBC so natural and amusing. Informative too. A pity they are not longer but never having filmed on a tour I can only imagine it is very time consuming and hard work. But we’ll worth it to watch

    • @WheelstoWander
      @WheelstoWander  Před rokem

      Haha, that's quite a compliment. Though we don't feel we're even close to 'Planet Earth' type of shots... But we try 😋
      We agree it would be better if they were a bit longer (especially this last one, we didn't have footage left), though we don't want to compromise on quality. We like to give a feeling / experience more so then a raw, less edited vlog... Frankly we don't enjoy ourselves talking about the same things (the weather, landscape, food etc) again and again so we try to keep that short and sweet.
      Maybe you have some suggestions, we're open to suggestions and feedback!

I love hearing that sound at dusk or at night. It's not made with their voice, but by the air passing through their feathers as they descend through the air, and for some reason the sound is usually called 'drumming' in English. We often look on Bikepacking.com and take their routes as our backbone, but we take it day by day really. Our setup is not suitable for all types of terrain, mostly we don't do single track although we would love to. So we'll scout the map in the tent at night to have a rough idea what the next day is going to look like... And we try to avoid as many busy roads as possible.

    Mystical island. That sound so exciting. I am thinking of somewhere in Greece or Italy?

      Hmm.. I think you misunderstood us a little, it's Iceland, not Island, although that's still an Island of course.. kind of confusing, and not as tropical 🥶

    Welcome to Scotland again. You guys do have a unique touring and filming style all of our own and together they make for lovely videos. All the best to you for the future.

    That was one hell of a hell route from Plymouth to Edinburgh!!! Do you thoroughly research the route or simply take a day at a time? I suspect you did not meet many other touring cyclists on your selected route.

    I googled midge stew but found no recipes 🤭 But I did find out they’re an important part of the food chain in nature. Long live the midge 🫶🏻 Really look forward to your episodes. Cu in Iceland episode. My son lived there for a few years. Fantastic place. ✨

      Haha, that doesn't sound very appetizing... Good to know that they are of some sort of use in nature, that makes it a little more bearable.
      That's an interesting place to live, we would be curious to know why? Is it for study, work... or just for the experience of living in such a wild place...

      @@WheelstoWander He’s done quite a bit of travelling but only to hot countries. I think he wanted to see what it was like living in a cold country. He was much younger and I think he also liked the nature (and no doubt the looks) of the Icelandic ladies 🙄 He was also interested in doing some voluntary work on an organic farm there. I think he wondered how they produced food there, the landscape being what it is. It was all poly-tunnels. Other things were the social life there, the fresh air, open spaces, the contrast of fire and ice and… the beer. Well, he was young and 😎 back then. He loved it. But he loves hot countries better so he’s living in the Philippines now with his soon to be wife.
