Washington's general rifle elk season on public land is by far one of the toughest hunts any hunter can encounter. Per unit, the average hunter success ratio is between 0% and 3% according to 2018's harvest statistics. That's a very low number relative to other states general rifle elk season success ratio. However, that does not mean that it's impossible. It's possible, just extremely hard. As they say, persistence kills. I was blessed with one opportunity this rifle season on a bull and this video shows exactly how it went down.

I remember when I took my first spike in the WA general rifle spike only season in 2011 (after hunting A LOT of years), and it is still the best feeling I’ve ever had as a hunter. I loved seeing your joy after taking your first elk, I was the exact same way. So awesome!! Taking a bull in WA in the general season is incredibly difficult. You should be proud.

I know that feeling and I could feel it myself as I watched your video. Congrats on the harvest! A Washington OTC branched bull is not an easy feat by any stretch. I’ve been fortunate to harvest 3 OTC WA bulls since 2012, one archery, two modern.
I have to make it out East sometime. I’m on the west side and it’s tough going out here to I love hearing those wolves, that is the coolest most eerie sound to me. Love the videos man.
