You should make a tutorial on you’re gear and how to hunt for solo beginners like me, I would love to dive in to learn please help us
Good boots, wepon of choice, pack with pack frame. Game, bags. Knife(kill kit). Gps. Go hunt. Oh and a tag.
Your knowledge, patience, and relaxed manner is very enjoyable. I’m made to feel as though I’m there also ! Great job 👍
I can’t believe the quality of this show for being just him and budget camera gear. This is my new favorite show.
*Shoots grouse*
Grouse 1: *DEAD*
Grouse 2: Doesn't even flinch at the sight of its dead buddy.
😂🤣
Grouse are dumb as posts...Spruce Grouse even more so. Illegal to kill in a lot of places for the sheer lack of challenge and ease of over-hunting. Kinda surprised Washington allows it.
This is becoming one of my favorite hunting channels
Your channel is absolutely phenomenal man. Hard work is recognized. Keep it up
Congrats Joe. Nice team effort. Yumm dish.blessings

You go, Joe! Gettin' it done! Another stellar video, Samong! Tasty dinner had my mouth watering. I hope to see your elk next time my ship pulls into port.
PNW Wild Phó gumbo! Looks delicious! Great video as always! Keep it up!
Love that meal made. Just fantastic
Birds you generaly dont need to "take care of" (not sure what the english word for it is). You can mostly just hang them for a couple days, depending on temperature. They lack the stomach acids and stuff that deer have, and their stomach cavity is unlike grass eaters, so there is almost zero risk of ruining the meat from contamination. But they can be eaten right after the kill ,but if rigor mortis sets in you need to wait for it to go away or it wont be as rare.
I mainly hunt birds in sweden, black grouse and capercaillie. capercaillie is almost like a turkey in size, early season its mostly shotgun with pointer dogs later when snow comes its with rifles when they sit in the trees. We also have grouse, wood grouse i think. The males are territorial so you can use simple whissle to get them into range of a 22LR or shotgun. Delicous birds!
Congratulations Joe on your cow elk . Glad for you guys for the nice grouse fixed for dinner. There delicious. Thanks for sharing your hunt with us. Eating out is great. My dad forgot a gun one time and had no other weapon so he widdled him a switch and swatted 2 to death they were awesome.
Congrats man!!
great recipe, cant wait to try
Great job on the video!
Great vid!
Bro you come out with quality videos ! You’ll definitely be at 1mil someday 🙌 Really been enjoying your videos, great channel. Would definitely love to do a hunt with you in Washington sometime!
Awesome Job! Meat in the freeze. Hope you tagged out. If not you still have late season. Good luck!
great video man, well done with the grouse shot. In NY we do not have many spruce grouse only up north more and its off limits, but ruffed grouse are one of our fav meats, great video enjoyed.
Enjoy watching all your videos and would love to hunt elks someday! Keep up the good work.
First time here, really enjoyed your style, got ya subbed , now I have to go eat ya made me hungry 😂😂 rock on
You definitely deserve more subs my dude. 👍
The red berries were mistletoe
I'll have to try that grouse recipe. I usually just bread them and fry 'em up like chicken cutlets.
26 yards on a grouse, nice shot!
Fun stuff bud,
Awesome video keep it up
Just got back from squirrel hunting making me hungry looking at you eating the grouse keep up the videos be safe out their
I'm starting to see a lot of elk hunts become grouse hunts. lol, still good.
Just viewed this video today (only recently discovered Samong's content). Smart move opening the crop on a game bird to see what it's been feeding upon! Like examining the stomach contents of a fish, it helps in patterning the species' behavior in that habitat not only for immediate use, but as reference for future hunts too!
The berries are from Arctostaphylos, commonly called Kinnikinnick (most prevalent spelling) in the region Samong was hunting. It blooms in early May and June and produces berries that persist throughout the winter. The plant is also, legitimately, known as "Common Bearberry" for reasons that viewers might easily surmise. Residents farther south, Oregon and California, are more likely to know the plant as Manzanita.
Awesome love your vids hope you get a mule deer this month
Awesome job
Good hunting and eating that for sure yummy 😋
Best part about this vid - NOT using & trying to sell the viewers the latest brand new $2000 flagship bow setup......... I'm still using my 2015 Bowtech RPM360 !!! But, I might buy into a better pack.
I’m just gonna echo everyone saying how great your content is. I’ve been a subscriber for a while, and I still enjoy every video.
There’s “big time” people on here hiring camera crews and editors... and they’re still behind in quality as far as I’m concerned.
Great content! I no longer hunt, but love vicariously living hunt through you and Joe! I am loving the series and much love from Cheney!
Yess on the rice! I gotta have my rice to haha!
Another great video! Congrats on the kill!
Add some ginger bro... taste a lot better👍👍great hunt!
Id love to roll with you for a lesson and an experience hunting. Your videos are great
Excellent vid. What brand game bags do you use and how many do you need carry for an elk?
I just the buy the Black Ovis sacks. It comes with plastic gloves, tarp, and some other little stuff that will take care of an elk.
What! No fresh backstrap....congratulations
they really trust their camouflage
Very good 👍
Good job
Be lucky and be safe!
We call spruce grouse ,fool hens in our country, keep up the good work. Really enjoy your content.
Ha we call them timber chickens!!!
Yum grouse
Pretty cool video, are these over the counter tags or is it drawn? I am a bow hunter as well in AZ if you ever want to put in for AZ I can show you a few spots
Samong Yang Outdoors it’s any elk? That’s pretty cool, we have an over the counter here but very hard to find them elk in OTC elk area.
Good vid, looks like you’re packing a third gen Smith,,,
Great video! For those who want to hunt and need to see how it's done old.school.
Brings back memories from the early 90s and my Bow trips to the Sierra Nevada mountains in CA. Those were the best hunts. SOLO with just the basics.
brooo! you're missing some ginger and lemon grass with that soup! i love that recipe.
I don't want bring all that stuff with me to the mountains lol. It would've been nice though.
Great hunt. Sure love to solo hunt one day but it's a lot more fun when you have a partner. Keep it up.
Are you hunting in eastern WA or western?
My $75 Bushnell Trophy Xtreme binos do just as well as my buddy's $180 Vortex binos... From what I read they're built similar and have the same features... Bushnell has a full lifetime warranty too. Surprising
The best grouse
Cut it up like you did
Crack egg in sandwich bag
Put grouse meat in egg
Sandwich bag of flour ,pepper, salt, onion powder.
Put grouse in flour
Fry it up .
Then since you always have rice use left over grease and flour make a little gravey to go over it all
Awesome video of the hard work that goes into an elk hunt and harvest. My wife has been hitting the local TJMaxx store here in CDA for high quality 600 count thread bed sheets and making our own game bags for many years. They are much better than the loose weave stuff out there and really help with the flies. Lots of elk hunting still to go!
Why 600 thread count - 400 or so don't cut it , or ? Have you ever looked into buying by the yard from an online fabric store ? I bought some ripstop type of nylon that had a coating on one side - was thinking of using that but, idk if it'll breath that well because of that coating....
@@thistledewoutdoors3331 We found high quality cotton bed sheets (the best we can find) pretty cheap at TJMaxx stores. I prefer cotton over synthetics with my meat for absorbing blood and putting a dry sheath on the outside of quarters. 400 would probably work too but it is not as tight a fabric as 600 and we have had blow fly problems with our elk meat with looser fabrics.
@@idaho2ndgens240 You might also try dusting the meat with black pepper to deter the blowflies. It worked well to keep them out of propped-open deer cavity of a field-dressed deer while it hung to cool and glaze in hot country that I hunted with my dad when I was a kid. (Shot my first deer on a 107-degrees F day in 1965.) I haven't tried it again because we moved to PNW a little over a year later, and much preferred hunting colder country and seasons 😁!
I have heard that about pepper but have not tried it. Will have to give it a shot, next elk down. I would think it would help while skinning it out and before it gets into the game bag. Thanks for the info.@@willong1000
@@idaho2ndgens240 You are welcome! I too believe that dusting prior to sacking the meat would be the way to go. If you get a chance to try the method, please let me know in a follow-up reply (I have YT email notifications turned on.) how it worked, or did not, for you.
May you and yours enjoy Thanksgiving Day tomorrow!
Nice hunt, I just harvested my first deer 🦌 on my channel. Elks on the list but first gotta get my black bear next! Good luck and hope ya get your elk over the next few days!
Nice job brother love your channel. Always love seeing people spending some quality family time. Keep up the hard work. What part of Washington are you from im from the tri-cities Pasco to be exact looking forward for your next video good luck and stay safe.
Most eastern Washington elk won't bugle back a lot. It's a dinner bell. Elk hunting In GMU 101 and 105 is difficult.... GMU 117 and 111 have decent numbers ... 121 and 124 hold a lot of elk ... however they hold on private and the reservation.... I live in Springdale. There's 50 head of elk that travel from the hay fields near 231 across the Hancock land to reservation and back every day..... Thought I drop that nugget of info for you... It's GMU 124 ...look up sanctuary way.
Look up iron mountain in chewelah. It's up immel road past the golf course... There are 3 huge ponds on top
Those berries in the grouse looked like knik knik. The bears love them too.
Just viewed this video today (only recently discovered Samong's content) and I scrolled down to see if anyone else had noticed that the berries are Kinnikinnick (most prevalent spelling), which blooms in early May and June and produces berries that persist throughout the winter. The plant is also, known as "Common Bearberry" for reason you seem to understand.
good job i have a question this is my first year of hunting any advice for black tail deer or any equipment i should use
That really depends on your style and budget.. and I wouldn't go all out your first year.
I don't know anything about blacktail hunting. The hunting basics would certainly get you through deer season over there. A rifle/scope, ammo, a backpack, rain jacket, rain pant, and good pair of waterproof/breathable boots. If you have money, a binocular with a binocular harness to add on top.
Buy a book called blacktail trophy tactics, by Boyd Iverson. Knowledge on what you are hunting is the best piece of gear that you can have. Look and study what hunters are using and why in the videos like Samong. If you are serious you need different types of hunting gear and always prepare for the worst. This is Washington, the weather changes faster then changing diapers. Also look at the enviroment that your in does your camo resemble what you are in. You dont want to stick out like a sore thumb. If money is tight and you cannot afford any sitka or other brand names then go to a second hand store and look there. If there is no camo there then look for earth and tree tone clothes, like a green and brown plaid shirt and brown/tan pants. Get some frog tog rain gear also for backup from the rain. Also get some tic repelant this year was bad and you dont want to risk getting any type of nasty disease from them. I could go on but your on the right path by watching others online. Just remember deer or other animals dont care how much your gear costs or if there shot with a used pawnshop rifle. You can do it cheap, but you just have to work at it a lil harder than the experienced and geared out hunter.
We gotta get Samong over 50k
That’s so sick that you can just get your water out of little streams. Not much of that in AZ......
looks like manzanita berries. Great video. Looks like you are shooting a bowtech guardian, super nice bow.
Yep, though as one travels farther north, the more commonly encountered name is Kinnikinnick (usual spelling). It's also known as Bearberry.
Great video keep up the good work you doing and good luck This hunting this season!!! I believe you wear kuiu camo so how you like it is good camo I know it a little pricey camo !!!
Are you hunting east side or west side ? If you wanted to hunt west side for a week just lmk.
They call them "Stupid Chickens" in Alaska
What's up man
You could have used the hide to cover the protein until you got back
The hide would just trap in heat which would speed up the spoiling process. Gamebags are designed to protect the meat from flies while also allowing the meat to breathe and cool down.
side note, spruce grouse rely entirely on camouflage. though why the one didnt take off after his buddy right beside him got stuck with an arrow, idk. Lol
You forgot to say best way to cook squirrels... lol 👍🏼👍🏼
With a good game cart, you could have hauled out the entire load of meat in one tripe.
You looking for hunting partners? I’m trying out NE Washington for the first time this year. Been hunting the west for years though.
For you being a young hunter and somewhat new to recording your hunts. Your content is by far better than many other channels I've watched. Keep up the great work
Here in new Mexico I hunt mule deer aswell.
Honestly! He has quality videos for sure!
AMEN!
