I used to come and work at the textile machinery development center in the early 1969s when working for Platt Brothers . The pub had a sign inside about a guy who was banned for being a drunkard. Good memories of the village. Left UK in 1964 and have lived in Africa since then .

That's the home of my favourite supplier of traditional outdoor clothing, "HEBDEN CORD" (17-23 Old Gate), who sadly went out of business roundabout 2005. I miss my breeks, Tattersall shirts and Norfolk jackets!

I’ve spent lots of time wandering around Hebden Bridge and area and it’s really delightful to be there. I’ve taken so many photos as it’s full of beauty and interest. If you’re going do go up to Heptonstall, it’s well worth it. There’s a gorgeous wee flower shop I always loved going to in Hebden and the cafe by the old bridge that caters to dogs is such a cute little place. Don’t make the mistake of thinking the pupcakes are for humans tho.
It is a really delightful place! The scenery is amazing and I agree Heptonstall is just as pretty up on the side of the valley - I'll make sure to make a video there one day - and maybe bring my dog to the little cafe :) Thank you so much for watching!

16:03 No 18 Hangingroyd Road was my home till I was 8 years old many happy memories of go karting down that hill. My family actually owned No18 & No20, (my Aunty lived next door) we had an adjoining door between the lounges. Back in the early 1970's those houses cost just under 5K id dread to thing what they cost now.

Great video! 👍 What a shame this was recorded on a dismal day in the pandemic. Usually a lot more going on and with a lot more to offer. Also the flooding at the beginning of 2020 was pretty bad too.
Absolutely - I will say that this was recorded around 8am on a Monday morning so before shops would open normally too. But absolutely it's a shame to see the town so quiet - I'll certainly go back when things pick up again :)
Well you wouldn't want to play Pooh Sticks on any of the bridges, haha. You'd never get across t'other side quick enough to see your stick emerging. I've a number of friends who migrated to Hebden Bridge simply because of it's easy going attitude towards lesbians and its 'arty' scene. I'll take a wild guess and suggest that the Shoulder of Mutton hostelry is LGBT friendly given its rainbow coloured benches out front. But whatever one's 'leanings' you'd have to be pretty fit to reside there in order to cope with all the steep streets. Lovely neck of the woods though. Thanks for uploading. Yes I think Pooh Sticks on a rainy day in Hebden Bridge would be quite the challenge! Unless extreme Pooh Sticks is a thing nowadays :) It's a lovely town though as you mention and with a particularly unique identity, and that's one of the things that makes it such an appealing place to visit for so many people! The centre of Hebden with many female owned cafes and shops and art it has a non judgemental motherly feel of tranquility and creativity that is definitely influenced by mainly older arty quirky women dominating this area. Its child friendly but very left and Liberal.And for a village it has its own theatre and cinema and plenty of festivals and art classes. It's welcoming to all. The down size are the properties are too much for what they are being an ex mill village. But if you have the money it's worth it tho I wish theys put some cheaper flats and housing in before it gets too middle class as the local hippy types are being pushed out. Lots of famous artists have lived here and it has and is near the Brontes and Gentleman Jack, and is home to Silvia Plaths grave.
As I've mentioned before, - it's a shame for the cyclists who usually pass through this town to get to Hollingworth Lake (LIttleborough, Rochdale) - some of the Hebden Bridge locals seem to enjoy leaving things on the towpath for cyclists, - nails (sticking upwards out of the soil), screws, very large fish hooks, bramble bushes and branches from thorn bushes, - it's not going to do your business much good is it??
It's more lesbians and artist. It's has a very nice vibe because most of the businesses are owned by women. It's small but it's very easy to feel relaxed their as it not a judgmental place. Very relaxed and has some amazing walks surrounding it. It's full of pagans and quirky people tho it's a bit posher than it used to be, lots of middle class vegans.
Hebden is such a tolerant lovely place. I feel the town should be looking at housing some of the refugees crossing the channel. The town I feel will welcome these people unlike other bigoted places.
You make me feel peace, i'm crying also realizing that there's beautiful place over there.. I hope could come over there someday.. 🧡

Hebden Beck is located in Hebden North Yorkshire. This river is called Hebden Water.

Lots of local people simply call it Hebden That "other" town therefore lists an unusually high population!

There isn't anything between Heptonstall and Hebden Bridge that resembles the origins of Hebden, the town started where it is now.

Why not use the force of the beck to generate some sort of hydro-electric power for the benefit of the local residents ?

I thought Brighton was the lesbian capital of the UK
Brighton's pretty much LGBT whereas HB seems to attract specifically lesbians.
