What scene or theme in a movie or show should I react to next? How do you like this new format for videos? (Don’t worry I’ll still do live reactions too! ♥️)

@@the.truth.doctor The show's theme is mainly about loss, grief, and handling one's fear. Each of the kids, and father, all have their own ways of dealing with it since their mother passed away. That including living in a haunted house. You get to see how each person is affected by this. Warning- there is a mention in suicide, substance abuse, and talk about mental illness. I would like to see on your take/advice for this series. I think it's important to talk about grief/loss, especially since you talked about it in Max's video.

I love that you’re covering this because even though you rightfully can’t stand Billy, Billy is also suffering. And at what point do we address his trauma as well? Not an excuse, just an unfortunate series of circumstances. He could have been a better person, and that was wasted and that’s a part of the tragedy, the opportunity missed. The paths chosen. The influences absent.

I love this video. When Max said that the first time I felt really connected to her. An abusive family member of mine died and it was really messy. Sadness and relief. I don’t think enough shows talk about it.
A show theme I’d like you to talk about is mother daughter relationships like in Everything Everywhere all at Once!

    tw: abuse, suicide
this arc of stranger things was.. painfully relatable to me. as someone who grew up with a very abusive older brother (with about the same age gap) who took his own life when he was 25, lemme tell u. complicated is the word. the staggering relief at the beginning, with grief only beginning to appear over time, perhaps more so over time. now i’m older than he will ever be. but i definitely spent most of my life waiting for his actions to catch up with him, and at max’s age i definitely full on wished he would die. i haven’t been angry/rageful in a long time towards him, i wish his life could have gone differently, and also that i might have been spared as a result.
anyway, yeah, i appreciated how stranger things handled this.

I went through the same, except my brother is still alive. I think he tries to make amends in his own way but the toxic traits are still underneath, he can't acknowledge it, and I can't forget. So my inner conflict is how to deal with this person in the present. I've often thought about how I would feel if he died; as you say relief tied with a confused sense of grief, and wishing things had been different for both of us sums it up

I had a similar experience with a brother figure. We knew each other our whole lives then he SAd me, we didn’t see each other for years and when he died I though I felt every emotion you could possible feel toward a dead person. At times I felt glad he was gone, others I didn’t.

Can you also do Mike regarding his codependancy on El and Will and his grief throughout the 4 seasons?
I know it would require a lot of effort and reading between the lines but I would love to see it.
I feel like his grief gets forgotten, but his dependence and hero complex should be discussed too :'

i absolutely ADORE max. i relate to her deeply and she’s probably in my top three ST characters, but the way she talked about billy after his death just felt…wrong. the way billy treated max and his behaviour towards her relationship with lucas was completely unjustified, there’s no arguing that, but it was abundantly clear throughout the show that said behaviour was not a result of billy’s own feelings towards them. he was being actively abused at home and was the one who was punished whenever max did something wrong. everything billy did was in an effort to survive, so when he was mean to max or acted cruelly towards lucas, it wasn’t just for the kicks of it, it was because that’s what he thought he needed to do to keep himself safe. he also clearly cared about max in some way, and so he knew if he got close to max at all that would put HER in danger, so instead he distanced himself from her whenever he could. and when he tried to keep her and lucas apart, that wasn’t because billy himself was racist, it was because he knew how his dad would react if he found out max was friends with a black kid. billy knew he would be blamed and he would be punished for it so he went to extreme lengths to try to prevent that. so, the way their relationship was handled after his death just really rubbed me the wrong way, especially when the fact that he sacrificed himself for a little girl he barely knew just because max was close to her is taken into account. billy wasn’t an abuser. in order to be an abuser, one must be intentionally cruel to another person in order to manipulate them into submission or for their own personal gain. that was never billy’s intent. he was cruel to max because that’s all he knew, and because that’s what he thought he had to do to keep himself safe from his fathers abuse. so, calling billy a racist and an abuser just feels so wrong to me, because that was clearly never part of the deeper issue behind his behaviour, and the way his character and his relationship with max was handled in season 4 just felt like a slap in the face to anyone who’s ever experienced abuse. billy never got the chance to grow as a person and improve his life, and even after killing himself to save someone he barely knew, he was still villainized and his sacrifice and redemption were treated as nothing more than a plot point to further max’s story. billy is honestly probably my favourite ST character in terms of complexity of story, and i wish the writers would have given him a chance.

Always appreciate your videos- would love to see you take a look at The Wilds (especially season 1) on Amazon Prime. It’s focused on a young group of girls who get stranded on an island - all are grappling with and dealing with their pasts and what they’ve gone through in their lives - and in really nuanced, complex, and interesting ways. I think you would bring a wonderful analysis to the show and it would make an excellent collaboration with your content :) thanks for all the work you do!

@@the.truth.doctor One of the main characters is battling depression and survivor's guilt over her sister's death. She's abusing a drug that enables her to relive their last day together so she can see her again. In the 9th episode, she comes to terms with her death and I found that scene really beautiful. The main themes -that I thought were covered really well- were loneliness and connecting to people.

@@the.truth.doctor also Avatar the last Airbender and Legend Of Korra are other great options it's a kids show with a pretty dark undertone Aang has to deal with Grief (I would explain why but I don't want to spoil it) and he has to deal with losing his pet and weather he should or shouldn't kill someone
Korra deals with some identity problems although the big mental health aspects come in the end of season 3 going into season 4
