the line 'I'd sell my soul, my self esteem a dollar at a time' and it's delivery is one of my favourite times in music!! Safely in my top 3 Perfect Circle songs :)
It's doesn't transition into the next song, but on the album Magdalena is actually a tiny bit longer, a couple of snare hits as a "finishing punch" . Next song is rose, with perhaps the most eerie guitar riff of all time.

Mer de Noms - sounds like it's spelled without the "s." Sea of Names in French. The album is a sea of names: Magdalena, Rose, Judith, Orestes, Sleeping Beauty, Thomas, and Brena.
With Maynard’s vineyard Merkin, I’ve always thought there was a double entendre so Murda is spoken. Probably not but that’s my theory.
I thought ‘mer’ was pronounced ‘mare’…? I could be totally wrong though, my French studies stopped in college (almost 25 years ago) 😩

Pantera's first album was "Metal Magic" back in '83... They released 3 albums when they were considered "glam metal". "Cowboys From Hell" was their first album as we know them today with their heavy, groove metal sound released in 1990. "Vulgar Display Of Power" was released a couple years later in '92. Smokey was correct on Korn's self titled being their debut album. Great reaction! I gotta get more into APC myself lol
Dudes I remember when "Mer de Noms" came out back in 2000. I bought it on CD the week it was released. I was 27 at the time (Yes I am old haha). It was such a great Maynard fix after being 4 years since "Aenima" was released and this was exactly a year before "Lateralus" was released. Such a flawless album. I still play it regularly now 22 years later. Great reaction as alwasy guys. By the way, nice "They Live" t-shirt Smokey! One of my favourite John Carpenter movies that is!

There is a Magdalena at every strip club I've ever been too. They go home with all my dollar bills, and I still love everyone of them.
I love the ending. The girl is like a muse, shout her name at the end. Reminds me of Jay and Silent Bob sweating over The Muse in their movie. If you check out the sleeve art, you can see a used bar napkin w Maynard writhing some lyrics.
Paz playing her bass live on this, absolutely brilliant. Also Magdalena reminds me of Mary Magdalene, whose history may have some relationship to this song, or not...lol

She’s a stripper, at least that’s my interpretation. It’s the whole “a dollar at a time”, “moving temple” and “throw this dollar down before your altar” and selling his self esteem parts that makes me think that’s she’s a stripper. And he calls her “black Madonna” so she’s a black stripper as well. Just my take 🤷🏻♀️
In art, a black Madonna depicts not Mary and Jesus, but Mary Magdalene and child of which Jesus was the father. They were consider blasphemous.

I can also guarantee you haven't even heard of Pantera's first album. Metal Magic came out in 1983. The 'first' Pantera album was Cowboys from Hell in 1990.

In my library, Tom Waits "Make it rain" is next alphabetically. A perfect transition from "I'd sell my soul a dollar at a time" to "She took all my money".

Went to Vegas in 2017 to see them. They played a small venue and it was incredible. The edibles were strong that night so the night is kind of a blur but I remember this track just rocking. So good. Made emptying my bank account there feel like it was worth it lol

🖤 This song. They perform with cool affects using a dropcloth so all you see is their shadows at the start of 'The Package'...they play it to perfection at Knotfest 2017 full concert Mexico. You should try some Theatre of tragedy, Early one. Like let's go for a random one of Velvet Darkness they fear. Choose one. Liv Christine on vocals. You won't be disappointed. One of the first band in metal merging clean female vocals with a true sick singer over.
