  • Some games offer non-lethal ways to take out your foes, but don’t look too closely at these options - a lot are at least as deadly as the lethal method you’re trying to avoid. Here are the times we took the non-lethal option with probably fatal consequences. Subscribe for a video like this every Thursday: www.tinyurl.com/SubToOxbox
    Dishonored, for example, lets you eliminate religious zealot High Overseer Campbell without killing him by instead branding him on his face with a red hot iron. This brand that causes him to be thrown out of the Overseers and shunned by society, at which point he contracts the definitely fatal Rat Plague. Loophole?
    And don’t get us started on Hitman’s Agent 47, who keeps hiding unconscious bodies in sealed, operational chest freezers where they will either freeze, suffocate or freeze and then suffocate. Good for making human-sized popsicles, less good for keeping non-targets alive.

    I don't even think you need to use the wormhole to "non-lethally" murder someone in MGS-5. You can drop supply boxes on people's heads and it only "knocks them out". Do you know what would actually happen if you dropped a 36 pound missile launcher on someone's head encased in a metal crate along with over a dozen missiles each weighing 10 pounds? PLUS the weight of the SEPARATE metal case that the missiles are packaged in? SPOILERS, a broken neck and a crushed skull. It's like dropping an entire rack of dumbbells onto someone.

    In Metro: Last Light, you can get an achievement for "not killing anyone except when forced to". The 'forced to' only applies to the last level. When you're outside, you slowly die without a gas mask for which you have to regularly replace the filters. The achievement ignores the entire segment where you knock out hordes of guys outside and can scavenge their filters from their unconscious bodies. Yeah, if they actually wake up instead of dying in their sleep, the rest of their brief existence will involve suffocating on irradiated air. Good job Artyom.

He tried to write Batman going to the middle east and straight up committing genocide. But DC wouldn't let him. Miller also talks about how he wants to do a Superman story where a depowered Superman is in a nazi concentration camp. Why? Because in Miller's mind, Superman's a jew. No, really. He actually said that. And in his mind, I guess concentration camps are a rite of passage for jews? Anyway. Miller's more recent Batman tortures and murders more than the Joker. He kidnapped Dick Grayson and locked him in the Batcave, forcing him to eat rats if he wanted to survive. He mocks Superman for not taking over the world. I could go on, but you get the idea. The fan joke is that he isn't Bruce Wayne, he's an insane hobo named Steve who happened upon Batman's cave and stole his shit. Hence, Crazy Steve.

    I made it out with all of the gold, had to kill Elijah to do so. Took me about an hour of walking at a snails pace to the nearest store to sell them only to fimd out they are worth so much the stores cant take more than a couple each. Left 20 bars in my house and had over a 100k caps from the rest.
    TLDR: You can get all the gold but its much more of a hassle than just leaving them, you don't really need all that money

      Iv'e played New vegas but don't remember doing that quest for some reason, so forgive me if the answer to this is obvious,
      but, couldn't you just grab part of the gold, dump it just outside the vault
      (or somewhere where you can easily go back to, i don't know whether the vault gets locked after the quest, besides when you lock Elijah in the vault)
      and take the rest to a shop or somewhere else safe, then make a return trip to pick up what you left behind?
      TL;DR
      Couldn't you just make multiple trips to make it faster?

    • @chenry7084
      @chenry7084 Před 6 lety +5

      007 - Its a DLC so that's probably why you don't remember it, but the elevator cant be called into the vault once your down there, that's why your luring Elijah in in the first place, to bring it down to you, that and revenge. And once your out there's no going back, so its all or nothing from the start.

      Ahh, yes,
      I never played the DLC's for new vegas, so that would definitely be why.
      What about just slowly hauling the gold just outside of the point where you can't go back?
      cause OP said they slowly walked all the way to a shop.
      I'm imagining slowly walking till you get to a point you can get back to, dropping some stuff so you can fast travel, and then fast traveling back and forth however many times it takes to store/sell the gold?

    • @chenry7084
      @chenry7084 Před 6 lety +4

      007- There is a bunker that you find yourself in when you leave the Sierra Madre, and there are several containers where the gold should theoretically be safe, but most players likely didn't want to risk losing it. I always made my home in Novac which wasn't far away and only with a few geckos in between, so I usually just made the slog for the sake of doing it in one trip, although later I didn't even bother because if you play the DLC right you can get an endless supply of repair kits. Which I would use to max the value of high level weapons and make more off of them than even all the gold could net me. I should note that there is a lot of gold and it weighs in at 20 a piece so you max out very quickly, so you would be talking about a lot of trips, especially if you want to keep all the great armor and weapons you pick up in the DLC as well.

Maybe 47 never left the ICA and that all the locations he visits are just staged and kept in a sealed, controlled environment so he doesn't escape and murder actual innocent people. Maybe there is no ICA or Diana or scoring system and 47 is just a psychopath who has created all these things in his head to justify his murderous rampages.

    In the Arkham Batman franchise not only is the car definitely killing at least half of those bad guys, but a LOT of Batman's takedowns and/or finishers and counters clearly breaks the enemies heads, necks, spines and other semi-important parts of their bodies. Some gets thrown off buildings from the 50th floor even. And as a bonus, as this video showed us, every single car you hit with your bat mobile clearly kills every single person inside of them, they are NOT walking away from that head-on collision when their entire car explodes.
    Assassin's Creed also has a lot of those, when you chose to use your fists instead of blades to take down enemies you are CLEARLY breaking both necks and skulls - "knocking out" my ass.

    I thought the Dead Money DLC was the best narrative adventure ever. Let go, Begin again. Not just a mantra, and not just a hammy moral aesop. No, dead money was almost an interactive novel about how those who do not learn from the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat it- which was the overlying theme of the Courier's story in Fallout New Vegas. Elijah's best fate was the most poetic of the four- A man who never could accept that this drive to obtain power at any cost was the source of his repeated failures, and thus is inevitably trapped by a honeypot of everything he ever wanted locking him in there for the rest of his life. He is literally a man who studies the past, but does not learn from it, and one of the most interesting Fallout villains in my mind.

      I was so happy for him because for years he was forced to work for a madman, hauling unconscious people into that casino day after day. And the worst part was that God himself couldn't do a thing because Dog, his other self, was constantly suppressing God.
      I know that you could chose to either let him stay God or let him become Dog, but the memory loss looked like the best solution so he could let go of his past and start over again.

      Se7en2107 they don't tell you. I'll have a Pokémon get burned over and over again and it's perfectly fine. Pokémon are immortal unless the story requires dead Pokémon or ghost types

      Adam 420 SPOILERS: In the latest season of the anime they show a stoutland who dies from old age. So that's how I know it's possible. Besides in the games there's always a creepy place like Lavender Town where there are actual graves. I think maybe it's not so much that they don't want to tell you that pokémon CAN die because they like reminding you wherever you go. My comment was more of a joke because obviously they'll just never tell you YOUR pokémon died because you are the protagonist and the target audience is mostly little children so they probably wouldn't want to traumatise them. Then again, we don't know what messed up shit they're planning for Ultra Sun and Moon.

      Se7en2107 very true. I also agree about the messed up things they might do and have done. I forget which TV series or movie or whatever (haven't watched or played Pokémon in years) but they had Ash died and the Pokémon were literally crying tears like a waterfall. He was later resurrected but it's still sad and made everyone sad in real life. Who knows what they will do in the future

    I would have went with either of Green Lanterns Heroic Brutalities over Captain Marvel's. I mean one literally has him putting them in a bubble, then crushing them in the bubble, the other has him dropping two hammers down onto their waist, flatting it.

    I would add Dragon Age 2's quests Act of Mercy (act 1) where you save Grace (or turn her into the Templars). Not only do you save the b***, but she then turns around in act 3's quest Best Served Cold where she's had a few years to think about things and blames YOU for
    1. her decision to follow her blood mage boyfriend after HE burns down the Circle of Magi in Starkhaven;
    2. because you help her escape in Act of Mercy---which potentially puts your life in danger (esp if you're a mage) because you either bs the Templars or have to kill Ser KissAss....Karas. I meant Karas. (Yup, your Hawke is a terrible person for showing compassion. Go stand in a corner.)
    3. because you're a horrible person for not having the option of giving her money or food or magic carpets to escape with. (Weirdly enough, Terrie --a mage you also save w/in the same quest--, becomes a mage who helps other mages leave Kirkwall or evade the Templars and doesn't seem to resort to blood magic, but yeah Grace, you run with your ungrateful hatred. [b****])
    The ungrateful b****, Grace, I mean 'Grace', then kidnaps someone you love in Act 3's Best Served Cold. And not just kidnapping, she goes so far as to orchestrate your brother Carver's capture if he's a Grey Warden. (Or a Templar, but hey, the Templars are largely douchey, so whatever.) She also kills one of the few non-douchey Templars (Thrask) who tries to help her. The game forces you to kill her in Act 3, but let's face it, you really REALLY should have done it in Act 1.
    You just knew it was coming.... And since the Circle doesn't seem to offer anger management classes, you REALLY knew it was coming.

    What about Adam Jenson's 'non lethal' takedowns? He punches people with arms that can reduce concrete to dust! That's got to have broken a few necks.

      I was about to mention that as well, but in defense to that, he knows how much force to use to do so, I was about to mention two of them in Mankind Divided, there is one where he will take a person and slam them up against the nearest hard object, like a wall, a box, or even a door frame. Plus there another where he will create a fist and hit a person in the back of the neck.

    • @neohamilton551
      @neohamilton551 Před 6 lety

      Meghan Hause does he know how much force to use? Before his augmentations he was just a run of the mill security guard, and as he keeps going on about how he "didn't ask for this" I doubt he really liked or studied augs much. I'm pretty sure he's killed some folks, even if only by accident.

    • @MatthewAshworth

      Also how about the one where he turns his hand into a grappling claw, grabs an enemy by the face, and then spins them around. Surely that will break a person's neck in no time. XD

      @obex6105 Před 6 lety +5

      Run of the mill security guard? He was a SWAT team commander. But yes, punches to the head can very easily be lethal, even if you know what you're doing, and the whole spinning thing would /definitely/ leave the other guy with severe spinal trauma. Those Detroit thugs aren't getting back up.

    You mention hitman but forget about the garrote wire. If you don’t know what garrote wire is. It’s pretty much thin metal wire designed to cut people’s throats or take their head off. Not to choke people out. Think of a sharp version of the third string on a guitar and you’re pretty much spot on. Garrote wire was used by mobsters to assassinate rival members like how agent 47 uses it. Or in WW2 they tied it too trees on either side of roads and waited for soldiers on motorcycles or open top cars to pass by. Taking their heads or other body parts clean off.
