    Many more machines got a winder with the same basic function and possible problems. Andy Tube made a very detailed 44 min video with a Singer 99 on how to dismantle and assemble this bobbin winder: • The Handwheel and Bobb... .
    Regarding Singer 15: • Singer Model 15 The Bo...
    Alternative ways: • Bobbin कैसे भरते है 4 ...
    Be aware, that the handwheels and belt covers got two or more versions. The solid handwheel for the external electrical motor got a larger diameter at pulley and track for the bobbin winder tire. The spoked handwheel got a significantly smaller diameter track. Therefore the belt covers are different. So the belt cover needs to fit the handwheel used.

    Thank you soooo much for this video! This is the only one I could find that addressed my bobbin winding issue for my new(old) machine...I at first was convinced that my bobbin winder was broke or worn out or something until I saw your video and IT WORKS! I loaded my bobbin and I was excited like a child with a new toy! Thank you so much for this very helpful video!

    Wow that really helped. I just bought a singer 15 from 1890 and the bobbin winder tire wasn’t making great contact with the wheel in order to spin 😅

    Thank you--this was very helpful in winding my first bobbin though I need a new tire!

      Thanks for reply. Yes, I think I make a comment about replacing the tire in the video. Most sewing machines got the same tire size as for this Singer 201. But a few kinds of sewing machines use a special tire. You can get these tires from most stores selling sewing machine parts.

    Perfect! This is the problem I was having with a freebie 15-91. The bobbin latch lever was riding on the bobbin winder when it was emptry. This video helped a LOT!! Thank you!

    Hi- I'm having trouble putting back on the bobbin latch and section etc... could you please help me?

  • @millie465

    How do you adjust if the bobbin does not fill enough like you describe near the 4 minute mark? My bobbins are only 1/3 full when the winder disengages.

    • @sewingmachinesindetail
      @sewingmachinesindetail  Před 2 lety

      You got no adjustment for that for the 201. The only way is bending of the lever. But before you do that, you need to check, that the correct belt cover is used with respect to type up flywheel. Furthermore the belt cover needs to be fixed as it should to the machine.

    The Bobbin Winder Spring on my 15-90 is a lot shorter than the one on my 15-91. Is that how it is supposed to be? The reason I ask is that I see the longer ones being sold for the 15-90. Also, my 15-90 Winder pops up too soon. It is better since I put a thinner Bobbin Tire on, but it is still popping up too soon. Do I really have to bend that bar, or am I missing something?

    • @sewingmachinesindetail
      @sewingmachinesindetail  Před 3 lety

      Sorry, but I need to understand better. What exactly do you mean by "Bobbin Winder Spring". The video shop how you adjust the winder for different tire heights. So why do you need a thinner bobbin tire? I am not that familiar with the 15-90 and 15-91. I know the -90 is for belt and -91 is the potted motor. So the flywheels are different. Therefore the diameter of wheel to support the tire may be different too, and this can cause the belt covers to be different.

      @@sewingmachinesindetail, I am referring to the Spring that goes from the Bobbin Winder to the Belt Cover, and it kind of “digs” in to the Belt Cover. In your video, that spring is very short. And the spring on my 15-90 is short too, exactly like yours. Looking at the Belt Cover closely, I noticed that the Belt Cover on these older 15-90’s does not have a “groove” for that Spring to fit into,. So it seems that it has to just dig into the Belt Cover. However, when you go online to buy that Spring for the 15-90, they are all long, just like the Springs for my 15-91 and 201. So I am wondering if we just have to cut our Spring when it arrives? Or, is there a resource to get the correct size Spring? Or, should we be using the long Spring? I did try that with my long Spring from my 15-91, but it had nowhere to seat. I ended up putting the short Spring back in, and just bending my “pop up” lever, up about 1 mm (wrapping it in leather before bending. It does seem to work now, but I still wonder if I am looking at this the wrong way. I have a screen shot of yours, but cannot figure out how to attach it here.

      I do not think, that I am able to help you here, when I do not have the Singer 15. But I suggest you see this video about the winder of the 15-91: czcams.com/video/Nqu3UL3J9CE/video.html

    What would be the cause of the lever, when engaged, pushing the bobbin away from the little nubbin that is supposed to go in the hole on the bobbin? Is there something I can adjust to resolve that? Would a replacement tire (mine is probably 60 years old) push the whole winder assembly out more (it only needs a mm or less, I think) to line up better with the lever?

    • @sewingmachinesindetail
      @sewingmachinesindetail  Před 2 lety

      Thanks for the question. On my machine, the lever that sense the height of thread in spool is holding the spool to the right, so the spool cannot go off the little nubbin. The length of the nubbin is 1.3 mm. I guess that some of your parts in the winder have got bended in shipment or got loose screws. I have also seen reports of Singer 15 winders tried to be installed on the 201, and they do not fit.

      I have the same problem as well. Not sure why its happening and also it doesn't engage to the wheel nó matter how far i push it.

    • @rprastein
      @rprastein Před rokem

      @@sewingmachinesindetail I actually have a Singer 319W, and another one for parts, and I'm pretty sure I've tried both of the bobbin winders, but I could swap them again. I've taken that danged winder apart and put it back together again more times than I care to count. There is nothing bendable that will position it correctly (unlike the stitch length regulator lever, which actually bends pretty easily).
      To make things worse, I think the nubbin has gotten worn down to only about 1mm or a little less, from the friction of the bobbin working its way loose and then rubbing on the end of the nub. But if the thread sensing lever would hold the bobbin in the correct position instead of forcing it off, even the 1mm would be enough.

    • @sewingmachinesindetail
      @sewingmachinesindetail  Před rokem

      @@rprastein I did newer try to correct this, but I guess, that this lever sensing the amount of thread on bobbin, is bendable in some way. But of cause you have to be careful about how it is done, so you do not break it or bend some wrong places of the metal.

    • @rprastein
      @rprastein Před 8 měsíci

      @@sewingmachinesindetail I finally figured out a way to resolve this. How to describe? As you are facing the machine, in between the green shroud (of the handwheel) on the left, and the shiny metal attachment plate of the bobbinwinder sensing lever on the right, I slipped a small piece of thin cardboard, acting as a shim. That shifted the sensing lever far enough to the right that it no longer pulls the bobbin off the little nub.

      You will need to take off the flywheel and clean the connecting parts between the shaft and the flywheel. Perhaps you need to oil these parts too. I think you will be able find instructions on how remove the flywheel on CZcams. The service manual provide this information too. There is a FB-group for the Singer 201, that is able to help you too.

      If it is disengaged top far it can make the washer slip and ré engage with the needle mechanism. This happens me a lot ...try not to turn it too far or that inner washer will slip. It has happened me middle bobbin too
