  • Michael has been telling me about this route forever, and I've finally gotten my lazy ass out of Sydney and to the Blue Mountains for some gravel riding! The views and nature out there are stunning and once you get off the beaten track the trails are incredible. If you're looking for a gravel adventure I highly recommend coming out to the Blue Mountains.
    It's never smooth sailing with gravel riding, and this time we had a little bit of a bingle. Watch the video for some important tips on how to stay safe while riding in secluded areas.

    You will have to go back and finish the Woodford to Glenbrook section, some great downhills! Although I guess you may have already. Back in the 80s, I rode that section from Woodford Store to the Glenbrook rangers station in 1h 6m on a MTB.

    I feel sorry for Chris as he had a couple of falls on his gravel bike since I’ve been watching your videos. He has more guts than me so good on him and wish him a speedy recovery.

    Heads up Josh if you ever go on a Intercity train again - there are cars that have bit more room set aside specifically for bikes - there is normally a little blue bike sticker next to the door to identify which is which - still pretty tight but definitely a lot more room than you encountered :)

    2:17: you needed to go into the other end of the carriage where the vestibule is larger and you can hang up your bike on the meat hooks. I catch those trains on my commute from Penrith to Strathfield and ride from Strathfield to the city.

    Always carry a snake bite bandage now it's getting warmer and know how to apply it. I've seen a few snakes out already and that bandage could save your life while you're waiting for emergency services

      For those who are reading this, a snakebite bandage has extra compression to squeeze your blood and lymphatic system and slow the spread of the poison. Thanks for the tip mate!

    Cracker intro & great story telling on the ride! Sucks about Chris glad he’s not too discouraged with all the crashing. Wow that psi, I’m going to try lowering my psi in the 20’s next ride.
    I’ve been running mid 30’s on my maxxis ramblers as I feel it’s perfect for not getting too many rim strikes on rocky descents:)

    To add one more tip: If you're out in the bush, bring a personal locator beacon. Hopefully you never have to use it but sometimes the help has to come to you. National parks NSW lets you rent them for free. Otherwise, buying one is a lot cheaper than what most of us spend on bikes😄

    I don’t understand gravel riders 😂 why not use a cross country mtb? The struggle you guys put yourself to not ride a mtb is funny. I don’t doubt a gravel bike can get the job done but with at least a cross country mtb it is more adapted for the terrain and more safe. We all want to explore new trails but doing it on gravel seems like tying one hand behind your back.

    • @joshkwan
      @joshkwan  Před měsícem

      Agree with you mate. Gravel bikes are more suited for dirt roads and the like. Another advantage is you can easily ride on the road to reach the trails. That being said anything lumpier than a cobble driveway and you’re in a bit of trouble haha

    • @gypana
      @gypana Před 23 dny +1

      100% agree, all you need is a good road bike and a good MTB and you're covered for most of your riding...a lot of people underestimate just how gnarly some of those off road and fire trails get.
