The new Trek Madone Gen 8 is better than I expected and the Emonda is...GONE??
Trek ANZ very nicely invited me to their launch event of the brand new Trek Madone Gen 8 which is launching today. Their event has really fun with canapes, drinks and some free goodies. The best part was seeing the new bike in all its different colourways, hearing the Trek manufacturing experts talk about the bike and also hearing first hand experience from Richie Porte! This video documents my night from beginning to end, some observations I made of the new Madone and also comparison to the older Gen 7 Madone. Its a bit early to review the bike but I am keen to give it a ride one day and see how it compares to the current gen Emonda, and the Gen 7 Madone. Also there is a little bit of news about the Emonda I am sure you will be shocked to hear. Enjoy!

Sydney Cycling Guide: La Perouse (Sydney cyclists have an unhealthy obsession with this route)

La Perouse almost needs no introduction. Most all cycling clubs which operate out of the city and eastern suburbs will have this route as one of their weekly rides. Regardless I know there is many new cyclists who are not part of a club or group rides yet so I thought I would make this guide to showcase the route, some alternatives and also my favourite cafes and bakeries to end the ride at. A long weekend worthy Cycling Adventure

A long weekend is always good reason to go on another cycling adventure. This time I head south to go to Sublime Point. This lookout is 75km south of Sydney and has one of the most spectacular views of the ocean and Wollongong. Hey mate, glad to hear you’ve started your cycling journey. Whatever you’re seeing on the screen is the power I am doing. I can do just under 1100w for about 10 seconds. It’s decent for my weight (64kg) but definitely nothing pro. The gym bike is much harder to push out the big watts. You can’t rock the bike side to side, also don’t have the added benefit of momentum etc.

      Not right now but that’s a good idea for a video. Depends on your budget and if you’re willing to buy second hand too. You might find the Domane a bit too relaxed geometry for your riding style. Sounds like you want to ride fast, I would recommend something more aggressive.

  • @winging_it.
    @winging_it. Před 2 dny

    Risky riding, riders making turns onto the incorrect side of the diving lines, simple cross wheeling hanging onto wheels, and riding in lane 2 when lane 1 is open and available, riding more than 1.5m when 2 abreast, riding more than 2 abreast, exceeding the 40k speed limit for most of Homebush, just a few issues to start with. If you want to race, go ride or organise some night crits. But this gives the rest of Sydney's cyclist a bad reputation. And let me guess when you get a ticket for punching the stop 🛑 signs at Australia Ave and Kevin Coombes it's not your fault. Average riders with no talent as far as the eyes 👀 can see. Learn to ride in a bunch in close proximity (basics you learn as a junior) and learn to respect the road and other road users

    I’m glad they’ve combined models. Too much choice. And nobody wants the “slow” Émonda when they can aspire to the Madone, now at a lower price. 👍

      Weight is the same as the Emonda now. Looking at it I would say it is more aero, but obviously can’t compare till they are side by side in a wind tunnel. Overall, I do like the look of it more than I thought I would.

    Hey Josh, great videos and I’ve just stumbled upon your channel. Definitely would love to get into cycling. What is/are some bicycle options you’d recommend? I’m 6ft, 110kg and have a budget of $1500. Planning to explore routes around Sydney that you’ve mentioned previously. Cheers! Would really love your opinion.

    • @joshkwan
      @joshkwan Před 7 dny

      Hey mate, given your weight and budget I would recommend an aluminium bike. You can get a Domane AL 2 or 3 for around $1500 from Trek. Other brands would have a similarly priced option such as the Cannondale CAAD13. Alternatively you can scour Facebook Marketplace but I find this can be a bit hit or miss if you don't know what to look out for and also can gauge the wear and tear on drive train components. All the best mate

      @@joshkwan Thank you very much! I was definitely looking around the Trek range, this gives me more of an insight to look further into the Domane range. Ultimate goal is for fitness and to slim down. Might see you out on a ride one day. Stay safe and keep doing what you’re doing!

    Hey Josh, just catching up on your earlier vids and recently bought this exact bike. I now know you went with the Emonda and I'm curious how you feel about that choice? If you were getting the same bikes today would you go the same way?

    • @joshkwan
      @joshkwan Před 7 dny

      Hey mate, very hard choice I will admit. Main reasons for picking the Emonda: 1. I am more of a climbing orientated rider, so preferred a climbing bike 2. Prefer the more classic appearance of the Emonda Don’t regret the decision, if I could own both I wouldn’t mind though ;)

      @@joshkwan thanks, what I figured. Emonda has lovely lines but I balked at the seatpost actually, plus I wanted the raw speed to keep up with my fast bunchies. Local Trek shop said the big announcement on the new bike is this Friday
