  • In this video we continue the Axial SCX24 Jeep JLU build! I demonstrate how to trim fenders, and show you a free trick for better approach angle. I also upgrade the tires, linkage, and tweak the gearing. The results were mixed, but sure do look good!

      Do you have a total for the build cost cause I'm probably going to build one of these

    I think you are correct, we went a little bit backwards in this video 😂 in that respect the tall tires help with ground clearance but in my experiences, the sweet spot is in the upper 50mm something like the mini trench kings from LGRP do great. And 3-D printed inserts are the way to go for side wall stability. All of that to say, I think you reached a point of diminishing returns a little bit. Just food for thought and constructive criticism. Don’t take this the wrong way love everything you’re doing. Keep it up.

    boy that tires just look exceptional on that rig, great video as usual my man

  • @AnyAssumptionBanter
    @AnyAssumptionBanter Před 3 měsíci +5

    on these rigs, unless you're building a comp and fabricating your own parts including a chassis, little losses will go unnoticed... especially if it was fun to run. My power wagon is absolutely horrible on sidehill and vertical and downhill. but its really fun to drive and challenging w/o being frustrating. I go with fun over function any day. brings a smile is a winner

      @Garage989 Před 3 měsíci +1

      If you don't have a well functioning rig, how are you supposed to have fun? I think Fun and Functional have to come together in RC. Just my opinion though.

    Adam if you wanted to add more lights on your JL, i recommend putting a small cotton swab on the jlu head light decals lightly. Then the lights will look like the real jeep too. I did it to my scx24 gladiator

  • @raleighscorcher
    @raleighscorcher Před 3 měsíci +1

    Regarding trimming… As in cutting sheet metal, I would recommend a pair of left cutting snips, and a pair of right cutting snips (reds or greens). This way you can control the curve you are trying to make with great accuracy. They make scissors the same way.

    glad to see i could bump up overdrive in front, i ended up scoring the x15 on that mofo flash sale. threw stock gear ratio in rear after watching you try with 50% and saw how slow it was, 14%od in front seems to work good to. Just need the heavy knuckles now i ended up losing some weight from the heavy stock addons i had on stock axles. my builds like completely shadowing this awesome content.

    There's 3 different halo warthog rc in which you can take the body's off of and they fit the axial and I believe similar chassis as well if you wanna make something else completely custom

    Funny, it sounded like you started to say Metalcloak and stopped yourself! The shape you settled on is definitely similar to their aftermarket fenders and I'll be cutting mine in the exact same manner. BTW, I've always run Metalcloak fenders on my full size Jeeps. Excellent channel!!!

    Another good video. This build, like a lot of your builds, ended up being a little on the heavier side. I have often wondered, and I think it would be a cool video, to compare, for example, the performance of two JLU builds, one build being heavier like this one, and another one that has weight strategically placed but with the goal of keeping the overall weight less.

    • @coltjohnson437
      @coltjohnson437 Před 3 měsíci

      I wonder which would perform better. My initial thought is always "more weight is better" but sometimes I am surprised and there is a point of diminishing returns for weight as well. I bought the mofo X15 nylon axles to keep the overall weight down. The 35-gram front axle vs 25-gram rear axle is still pretty close to the 60/40 weight bias. I really enjoy your videos. @@CapeCrawlers

    @capecrawlers thoughts on the gripper vs the black label tires? and do those axles improve steering radius?

    • @CapeCrawlers
      @CapeCrawlers  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I think the black labels are a better performing tire personally. They’re big, which is the only reason I didn’t run them here. The axles have a decent turning radius but not extreme like the Meus isokinetic axles. I would say you retain stock turning radius with these

    So the rough power delivery problem you had in the first two videos was solved with axles? Or did you swap out the motor again? Great series! 👍🏼👍🏼
