Sony APS C is BACK! 11mm f1.8, 15mm f1.4, 10-20mm f4 (Vlogging Paradise?)

  • Sony APS-C is back with new vlogging lenses. 11mm f1.8, the Sigma killer 15mm f1.4, and a 10-20mm f4 power zoom that is 1 gram lighter than the 11mm prime. These lenses are insanely light, but do they suffer image quality? Are they the best lenses to vlog with the Sony ZVE10? Does this mean Sony is working on a new pro aps-c body like the a7000? No lens stabilization in any of the lenses, is that a deal breaker?

Your incessant requests for 480fps or 240fps are tiresome. Dude, there are hard limits to the RAM required and file IO write speed. A good 1080p jpeg is 3-400KB, *240, that's 80-100MB/s write speed required. If you somehow manage to capture the sensor output into memory, process it from raw to jpeg so the quality isn't poop and spit it towards the storage.
Protip, unless a body has CF Express (or USB SSD option), the camera won't be able to support those superhigh frame rates - assuming the processor/board can do everything needed before the actual save to storage happens.

@@cameraconspiracies don't be coy, it's only for 2s@1136x384, do the math and you'll end up in the same place; assuming a 100% jpeg will weigh 90-100KB*960 that's almost 90MB/s, which it doesn't even write directly to the card; I assume the compression is worse and it's cached in whatever 128MB of RAM that camera has. No manufacturer will add the cost of such a feature (probably $25-50 if the body already supports CFE and only needs extra RAM or double that to add CFE too) for a feature so few need/require/use.

However in my opinion the ZV-10 produces much more crisp videos, of course with appropriate lenses on it. The worst thing about sony for me is the rolling shutter, you really have to be careful to minimize it. Ideally for the good shots for every occasion is to have both the zv and the hero. My situation is kinda similar i have the zv (but for now only with the kit lenses and i am trying to find the best wide lenses) and insta 360 RS with 1inch mod which is pretty good for some action and water/underwater shots.

I have so many issues with my Sigma 16mm f1.4 that I am considering to get the Sony 15mm instead. The Sigma's continuous auto focus for videos is unstable above apertures of f1.8, so I had to buy a Tilta focus wheel to remotely set the manual focus when shooting myself. Otherwise the focus keeps hunting and breathing. Also, the bokeh is completely uneven (left half of image is already blurred while right half is still sharp), so my background looks uneven. Sigma's customer support was not helpful at all and basically told me "it is what it is". Never had any of these issues with my Sony glass, so probably will replace everything Sigma over time.

It only seemed quite obvious that they abandoned the lenses for APS-C and wanted everybody to buy massive expensive FF lenses because they woul 'ugprade' at some point anyways. Hey Camera Conspiracies, when you were testing animal eye detect, you didn't see the box, because in Sony aps-c cameras, when you enter 1080p 120fps, the autofocus reverts back to contrast detect. Same goes for Sony's digital clear zoom. If you want to test the animal eye detect, you should do it in 4k 24fps or 1080p up to 60fps. I know those are not magical, but at least you can test if the animal eye detect is any good and if it is worth striving for in the a7IV. Keep up the great work! 😁

      @mrbeacham68 Před rokem +1

@@cameraconspiracies The reason it wasn't recognising your squirrels may be something to do with their colour. I have two cocker spaniels, one black and one gold. Animal eye detect works great on the gold one where there is good contrast between the colour of the animal and its eyes so the image processing can 'see' the eyes. My black dog has very dark eyes so eye detect struggles to detect the eyes, which is understandable. At the end of the day its just a computer program looking for a certain pattern, so if theres no pattern to detect in an image of a black squirrel with black eyes one cant expect miracles. You need to bin those black squirrels and get some grey or red ones! Anyway, thanks for the original, entertaining and intelligent content. p.s. why are all the best camera/video related CZcamsrs Canadian? (I'm in the UK).

    About the prices:
Here in Germany the Sony 15mm 1.4 is DOUBLE the price of the Sigma 16mm. The Sony costs 850€ and the Sigma 350€. Thats some significant price difference.
Oh and another really important remark: What you want already exists: You can record 4k video with the zve10 and then in "catalyst browse" use the gyro data which the camera recorded in order to stabilize the footage. You either can let the program do everything or selct a crop ratio on your own. But usually a crop of 10% already stabilizes the video incrdibly well.
One drawback of this is that you need to use higher shutter speeds but the results can be extremly amazing imo.
I would go as far as to say stabilizing with "sony Catalyst Browse" is the best in camera stabilization solution to this date.
Ive seen samples which looked like they were filmed from a gimbal, thats because this mode essentially works as a gopro, nsta360go 2 or any other action cam in this mode with the gyro data.

I never understood the hype about ZV-E10. In what way it is better as a vlogging camera comparing to a6600? It has IBIS that is good enough for video. You just have to move mic somewhere else.

It’s like half the size. The zve10 is closer in size to the zv1 than the 6600. It also has an articulating screen. I owned a 6600 and sold it in favor of the zve mostly upon size and weight savings alone.

@@-grey at the moment I have an 18-105mm glens, a 70-200mm g lens (it's for full frame so on crop it's 105-300mm) for insane portraits or some birds, the kit lens, my a6400 came with a 50mm f1.8 (not the sharpest at all). I was thinking to get the 10-18mm so it would be a great range, though, at F4, it's bad in low light. 10-20 is optically better but still F4 so that's why I'd need something like the 11mm F1.8/15mm f1.4 for low light vlog for example. Don't know if the 15mm it's wide enough though. On the crane M3 the 18-105 won't balance so it has to be light and short.

Your "Noo Yawk" sounded Cockney for some reason. 😂 Not impressed with the active stabilization alone for vlogging. Face it, nothing is really better than an action camera for walking vlogs. I just live with everything being in focus.
When I get my R7, though, I'm going to pair it with an adapted EF-S 10-18 and see how that works for vlogging and video. Not the fastest, but it may be the best available option right now for RF-S.
P.S. on a cloudy day, the BPM filter just looks like the lens is smudged. That's what I thought it was until I noticed the title.
