@Daniel Meyers My guess is that the costume is too small/doesn't fit, so they had to hide the opening in the back, and since the opening for the Yoshi costume is the front, had to wear it backwards.
When I saw the title I was thinking it was gonna be more like a bunch of songs from smash not just the themes from each game. Still very well done just not what I was expecting. Bonus points for the banjo kazooie gif

I think its because he sits too close to the wall and the hump wouldnt fit beneath him
