If your theory is true then Maybe Kirby survived because sakurai already saved him. By refusing to make more Kirby games he saved Kirby and kept him as he was meant to be.

You never really see the Kirby fandom discussion becoming violent or overwhelmingly negative, and it's because they understand the childlike wonder behind the character and see no need to question things tirelessly. Unlike most other characters in this game who, well... debate tends to stir over every little thing from their respective series. Great pick for the lone survivor, in my opinion.

Honestly, this is really sad to hear. But also in a way, sweet. He saved his own creations and I love the fact Kirby survived since Kirby was basically the start of Sakurai's career. This theory is great and probably accurate. Solid video.
This theory really makes sense as you play as Kirby in the beginning of the World of Light story mode. Kirby could also represent Sakurai (I mean it would be funny if you start playing as the Master Hand in this mode) as it was his creation--the beginning of successes in his game development career--and his embodiment of Kirby would be a catalyst in saving the soulless crossover of characters and thus would be a "celebration" of these franchises, as Matpat stated.
If this is true then the placement of fighters and Spirits in World of Light's painting-like world map could represent Sakurai's personal feelings on them, because to me a lot of them appear deliberately placed, perhaps especially in the Dark World.

Then I thought back to the cinematic parts of the Sephiroth trailer and thought about what Sakurai was talking about with regards to the lack of Final Fantasy music until he launched. If Galeem represents corporate interests and Sephiroth makes his big entrance by slicing it in half, I can draw multiple parallels to how much of a pain Sakurai claims getting 9 cues with him was despite Reggie's claim that they had never been turned down for a character being in Smash, even if the most immediate parallel is to him killing Shinra's namesake president

I'll admit I never played any of theses games (buying me games was never on my mom's top 10 list sooo...) but even I felt emotional at the end.
My wife and I are creators and I cant express how important these ideas are, and how much they scare us into not wanting to publish our works. The idea of corruption from money and big companies or a toxic/overly critical fandom. And that's if our stories do their absolute best. This world treats peoples personal stories, their works of love and intense labor and passion, like garbage. It really is heartbreaking.
So Kirby surviving is Sakurai's dedication to not abandon his love for his creations even at the cost of his sanity

Honestly i think this theory is spot on, if you listen to the lyrics of Lifelight you can hear that these characters are united in a struggle between two forces and even some of the other lyrics line up with the actions of both nintendo and the fans only for the characters to be released in the end from the struggle, their souls turned to ash like in the true ending

I would honestly have no problem with it being like Master Hand or even Sakurai. XD I feel this needs to be like a really special character as a final farewell to the franchise that he loves. Like as insane as like Crash, Sora or whoever would be, it not being a Nintendo character would be odd considering his relationship with the series.

Wow. That was a heavy theory, and I hate to admit that Masahiro Sakurai is absolutely right. I get that fans are crazy and they want more, I absolutely get how corporations want to churn out more of the same content (with a fresh coat of paint) just to satisfy the customers and/or get rich. But I don't think there is a reasonable way of going about this. Nowadays, creativity is risk. Making one bad call can turn the backs of multiple fans and shareholders. Until such a time where consumers are receptive to more creativity, or until the demands of shareholders lessen to allow for more freedom of design, I don't think we will EVER reach the "true ending". Thank you, MatPat (and The Completionist), for making this theory. I think this is a wake up call to the current gaming industry, especially with all the recent drama from Blizzard, EA, Bethesda, and so on.

I feel like the true ending is essentially the company and the franchise agreeing and joining together to make something great... Smash brothers. It feels sombre because of all the livelyhoods, jobs and potentially lives lost due to the conflict between the two.

Ultimately, the buyers are most important. If these games had no buyers, it would not exist. Sakurai can always fund himself through Paypal, Patreon, Kickstarter, GoFundMe, ect. The company's belief doesn't REALLY matter.

Maybe this is why Kirby was chosen to be the only surviving character. Kirby is technically Sakurai’s original creation, so perhaps this symbolizes Sakurai fighting against the issues discussed in the video.

Still impressive that 2/3 of those characters made it in to the final roster. This game is a miracle and will never be replicated again. Sakurai himself said that future Smash titles would not be this ambitious again.

This was, by far, one of the most thought provoking theories I've watched on the channel. I think I paused the video 4-7 times just to take a moment to go "wait what!?" Or to think over what had just been discussed.
I was completely confused by what was going on with the endings, but this honestly made tons of sense. As sad as it is for such an amazing franchise I grew up with to come to a close, it's still amazing that I got to be a part of it and enjoyed it as a fun loving casual with my friends and family.

After hearing the whole situation, I honestly had a lost of words. I didn't know what to feel, considering the fact that I've been watching you-know-who's channels for a few years.
I love how MatPat just does these things. Even if they have no reason (Like how many nuggets do you need to survive the jump of the nugget cave) or if it is important (Like the effect on a persons life from us fans). This video shows that fandom is great, but we all as a community never realized the effect we put on Sakurai.
BTW, This is 100% my favorite video I have watched in a long time. Just the importance and matter of this video touched me. I can't help but notice that SSB might come to an end early because of us.

The reveal of there being multiple Master Hands and Crazy Hands, as well as the destruction of the entities to whom they are respectively allied seems to be a commentary on the fallacy of dualistic theology. The placement of the sun shining between the two as they plummet into the ocean is a great visual to support this point.

Now that Sora is here I hope Sakurai gets the biggest vacation that anyone has ever gotten! He is an amazing man, creator and director.
He always did everything to make a great game that we fans love, even throwing his wishes and beliefs aside. He even bent the laws of nature by conquering the beast Disney and getting Sora for us in Smash. As a fan of Smash I surely hope for a new entry anytime in the future but I hope Sakurai will be either not involved so he finally gets his wish or that he comes back but only if he himself desides to.

Wow. I actually felt something. Sakurai deserves a break. Theres no way they can make a smash game better than this one. Some of the characters I wanted didnt make it but I am 1000000% satisfied with this game. In the words of another youtuber Murderofbirds "he gave full value before the game is even out...Sakurai you're good. Dont ever make another smash game again...let this man rest... he catered to everyone.. if you still ask for more then you dont deserve this game."

FINALLY watched this since I needed to finish World of Light myself.
I do hope this is Sakurai's last Smash Bros. game, but let's be honest: if Nintendo wants more Smash, they're gonna keep making more Smash. And Sakurai reports to not being opposed to more; but bless his soul. He does so much but I'd love for him to focus on other games.

I started tearing up at the end... like just the theory and ending, kinda makes me feel bad for Sakurai (idk if i'm spelling it right don't burn me with flamethrowers guys) like all of this stuff he went through. I really hope that this is the last game. It feels complete, and it should stay like this.

I've got a lot of respect for this man Sakurai. He's a smart game developer who is always proud of what he creates and doesn't want to succumb to greed and money like other American game companies who exploit their creations for a profit. Yet he's still tied to all of what he despises with the threat of his creations being lost to the people who want what he has. He's a bit of a tragic Hero of sorts. A good guy. He's an inspiration to me.
Yes, Sakurai is also the ONLY ONE who madethe game, and no one else deserves credit. Truly impressive how he made a Triple-A title all on his own.
