May Allah the almighty guide and protect him and all his family members and all other SHAIKHS in the globe from all evil people and their evil plots and give him long life with good health.
[𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙌𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙣] Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, ṣallallāhu 'alaihi wa sallam-, said, “Whoever listens to a verse from the Book of Allah Almighty will have a multiplied reward. Whoever recites a verse will have a light on the Day of Resurrection.” (Musnad Aḥmad 8494, Hasan according to Al-Suyuti)
I think you can pray behind most imams regardless of their outlook on certain stuff. You’re praying to Allah, with the intentions for Allah, not considering the imams opinions or outlooks on certain things. Thats the importance of your niyah. But I could be wrong.
The quran itself claims that it is something that is meant to be recited. And that it is a reward in itself (surah fatir, 35:29 ). So why is he demeaning the practice? Learning the meaning of the quran is a rewarding actions and also reciting it. There is no need to demean on ant deed.
He's demeaning the practice of not understanding the Qur'an or at least not making an effort to understand it at all. As there are numerous passages in the Qur'an where Allah says to ponder over its meanings. I have heard so-called imams say that it is dangerous to read the Qur'an with meaning. So this is in a way a refutation of that kind of thinking. And he makes a reference of the khawarij who outwardly will seem more religious and practicing than any Muslim.

The act of recitation even without meaning is rewarding. But no one is saying dont learn the meaning.
