Over his storied career, Judd Apatow has elevated a series of promising young comedy talents to their first major big-screen performance, including Steve Carell, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Jason Segel, Kristen Wiig, Amy Schumer and Kumail Nanjiani.
This summer, Apatow directs Saturday Night Live breakout Pete Davidson in a bracing comedy about love, loss and laughter on Staten Island.
Scott (Davidson) has been a case of arrested development ever since his firefighter father died when he was seven. He’s now reached his mid-20s having achieved little, chasing a dream of becoming a tattoo artist that seems far out of reach. As his ambitious younger sister (Maude Apatow, HBO’s Euphoria) heads off to college, Scott is still living with his exhausted ER nurse mother (Oscar® winner Marisa Tomei) and spends his days smoking weed, hanging with the guys-Oscar (Ricky Velez, Master of None), Igor (Moises Arias, Five Feet Apart) and Richie (Lou Wilson, TV’s The Guest Book)-and secretly hooking up with his childhood friend Kelsey (Bel Powley, Apple TV+’s The Morning Show).
But when his mother starts dating a loudmouth firefighter named Ray (Bill Burr, Netflix’s F Is for Family), it sets off a chain of events that will force Scott to grapple with his grief and take his first tentative steps toward moving forward in life.
The film also stars Steve Buscemi as Papa, a veteran firefighter who takes Scott under his wing, and Pamela Adlon (FX’s Better Things) as Ray’s ex-wife, Gina.
The King of Staten Island is directed by Apatow (Trainwreck, Knocked Up, The 40-Year-Old Virgin) from a script by Apatow, Davidson and former SNL writer Dave Sirus. It is produced by Apatow for his Apatow Productions alongside Barry Mendel. Together, the duo shared producing credits on the Academy Award®-nominated films The Big Sick and Bridesmaids, as well as This Is 40, Trainwreck and Funny People. The film’s executive producers are Pete Davidson, Michael Bederman and Judah Miller. - Zábava

'I trained her in the car, she's not going to break'. Dark & funny🙈🤣
yeah the kind of joke you shouldn't reproduce in real life
makes me think of when I worked part time in the back room of a Home Goods store and one day cops showed up as there'd been some degree of robbery committed by a couple employees only recently hired. They had every person brought into the office one by one to talk. I'm just so by default sarcastic and dry sense of humor I asked if I needed my attorney present as I sat, thinking it'd be abundantly obvious I don't exactly have the means for a retainer. Our district manager tries to jovially ask "now why do you think you'd need an attorney"? that's when I acknowledged that was not the best time for that joke and I was sorry.
edit: and actually I just remembered why I'd thought it was at least MAYBE okay and not ridiculous to make that joke. Cops had come to the store, but they were gone by the time of this, it was just a couple of our broader corporate people leading these one by one chats. So no I didn't literally say that to a detective's face.
Idk what that joke means
Yeah we did hear that on the movie are you trying to repeat it what the hell is wrong with people

It's super underrated.

Steve Buscemi was a firefighter when he was younger, and went back to help during 9/11. He told photographers to not take any pictures of him while he was working because he didn’t want people to think it was a publicity stunt.
Yea he was FDNY I think. Also makes sense why I love buscemi. He just seems like a super decent down to earth guy. I’m sure he was a riot in the fire house.
ugh i love steve buscemi so much oh my god
But does he tip though?
He also was in "I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry", one of the finest films about firefighters pretending to be gay for monetary reasons that was ever made.
Also Pete Davidson's dad in real life was a firefighter that died helping with the 9/11 attacks. I think this will be really personal for both Pete and Steve.
I love the shoulder check by real-life firefighter Steve Buscemi
A nyfd no less that was a great choice
Did you know Pete Davidsons dad was a fdny firefighter in real life who died during 911?
WORD!!! MUCH LOVE!!!
wait what time im blind
No. 55!!!!
Pete Davidson's IRL dad died fighting a fire in one of the towers on 9/11. Pete co-wrote this film and dedicated it to the memory of his father.
I know right i saw the movie and in memory of his dad was at the end then searched bout it I am not kidding i literally cried when i got to know this! Idk why i cried but while i was watching movie i really thought it is so relatable to pete that the acting is coming naturally to him!🥺🥺😭❤️

The only reason I kept watching the trailer
Alex Kid Cudi is petes favorite artist.. of course they use him
Pete said that cudi saved his life, he loves kid CuDi so for him to put his music in a story about his life makes sense
I love it when directors aren’t afraid to make an R rated heartwarming movie. Makes it feel more real and opens up more comedic opportunities. This looks so good though
It's nothing compared to the R rated movies of the 70s and 80s.
Now those were hardcore movies.
Like Midnight Cowboy
This movie will be dumb and cliche I can already tell
Dont be naive, they just wanted to make a low cost movie
LOL this kid was an asshole. Too bad we dont have time travel to expose what lying asshole he really is.
Just wanted to add Steve Buscemi was an actual NYFD before he became successful in film. He also volunteered to help search and rescue with other firefighters 🚒 during the incredible and exhausting efforts to assist during the days following 9/11. He still maintains his friendships today and this is why I love him.🥰
Yes he was I got a Tshirt with his old station number autographed he also doned his old gear back on that he kept and helped at ground zero for weeks just a little tid but I also volunteer him and Patty brown from the FDNY got me into the fire service.
Why do people write NYFD when it's clearly FDNY. How hard can it be

I loved this film. It is so realistically done and down to earth. It shows how humor can be found even in heartbreaking situations and can heal the soul.
He said he made this movie partly as a love letter to his mom. This makes me want to cry. He’s obviously a very complex person who has been through a serious trauma. I will definitely watch this.

Disagree that it's about self acceptance at all, hes fully accepted himself it's just others that haven't.
Its about pete davidsons story, his dad died in 9/11 and its based on his life so he’s acting as himself

It's kinda perfect that Steve Buscemi is in this given that he volunteered as a firefighter in NYC during 9/11
He was an actual firefighter before he started acting.
Also Pete’s dad was a firefighter who also passed on 9/11.
@@eaqua56 genuinely didn't know that, its not like in every clip of him hes talking about it
AndAnotherThing true
Crazy fact: The one scene where Steve Buscemi referenced “Scott” (Pete) Davidsons dad being a hero, he was referring to how Pete’s dad died fighting to save lives during 9/11, which Steve Buscemi happened to also do on that day as he also worked as a firefighter. They may have actually known each other or at least seen each other at some point in their career.
Colin Jost's mom worked for the FD, in the medical capacity I think, and may have crossed paths with Pete's dad. Can't remember exactly what I heard, but from one of their Stern interviews.

This Kid Cudi track ‘Pursuit of Happiness’ is perfect for the vibe of this trailer and story. I love Pete Davidson. What a guy.
I am still deeply feeling this movie in my body this morning after watching it last night. It resonates so strongly with my heart, my gut, my soul. It hits ‘close to home’ for me, and mirrors what I can imagine my brother is heartbreakingly journeying through. I’m in tears as I type this….😢
On a bigger, more global humanity scale (and by what I read of the powerful comments below this video), many many people will and do resonate with this film; some directly with Scott/Pete’s life and struggles, some with Scott’s Mum, others with Scott’s sister. I believe so many of us resonate with this movie and the awkwardly familiar struggle and pain in this movie because it’s all about grief, loss and the isolation, loneliness, shame of life when we can’t process and make sense and get past all this pain we carry.
When we hold unprocessed grief from trauma after trauma in our bodies, it’s impacts everything, from the way we think about ourselves, others and the outside world….how safe or rather unsafe, we perceive everyone or everything to be. It affects the way we can learn and process things in school and life, and the way we relate to ourselves and others, and our ability to feel we belong and are understood and seen! Basically….how much we feel loved by others and the world.
I’ve been on a crazy, amazing, unsettling and transformative journey the last few years healing deep deep grief that I’ve held in my body for 4 decades. It is completely changing the way I see myself, others, my relationship struggles with others, the safety of trusting others (and myself!), and the safety of our world. I’ve had food intolerances and 20+ year allergies just disappear in months! My relationship with myself….with my grief, and my relationship with other’s grief has completely changed. And with this, my life is transforming!
The power of recognizing how much unprocessed grief I’ve held in my body all my life, and the way we have all been taught to ignore, stuff down, and distract ourselves from our grief and pain, has and is literally transforming the way I live and love in this world 🥰 It has also ignited dreaming and creativity that I’ve never had or maybe never felt since I was a dreamy kid 😂 I took a life-altering grief recovery program a few months after my divorce in 2019 that ignited this whole wonderful journey!
Anyway, I could write forever on this movie and on the topic of grief. I will end here. Wishing much love and healing to all who read this and resonate with what I wrote or this miraculous movie ❤️❤️ And if anyone is intrigued by this wild, healing journey I’ve been sharing or on this crucial topic of grief, I share more on my channel series ‘A Brief on Grief’ - come join me! 🥰

@Perfect Pudding dawg coming from someone with depression you have no clue what the fuck you're talking about. Don't assume you know what's going on in everyone's life.
@@ItsDhaProphecy dawg I'm 26. I'm not a "beginner" by any means.
For all of us who lost their father and who are just trying to figure out life in this world: You’re all kings and Queens. Keep your head up.
I love how they took Pete’s story and put it into a different direction I’m really excited for this and I definitely want to watch it.
I’ve become addicted to watching this trailer... We need this movie already
Knock knock
Guess who’s not there hhahah

Same here bro
This extends far deeper than anyone could have imagined
I am 24 now and i can relate to this movie. At this point i am too living with my family (doing online courses but still jobless) and dont know what to do in life..i dont have past big trauma like him, just some small bad things i've done, some mistakes..that conversation he had with his sister before she leaves him is happened with me..! My mother and sister asked and i told them "i dont know, i probably hurt myself.." same conversation..
BUT the thing is he is good at stuff..like he got some talent like he is good at tatto thing, drawing..but i am not good at anything..! I am hopeless..and dumb 24yo only positive thing is i've graduated and became Engineer..(took me extra 1 year). I am loser of my island.
U the man champ because you trying to overcome your obstacles. Just know Passion leads to Destiny and destiny is the reason you are here. Keep your head up champ I’ve been there.👊🏼💪🏼
This movie made me cry so much idk why
I’m really, really glad Pete’s making this. This looks really personal.
missedtyler No, I’m glad he’s letting himself be vulnerable on his own terms.
Awh
9/11 like
Mariel Pare Pete isn’t making this. Judd Apatow is.
@@HellboyBPRD so why's he getting top credit on the screenplay?
"Don't worry mom. I know your daughter got smart and headed off to college and abandoned us, but I'm still here. I'm going to be here forever."
"Yeah..."
That was too emotional. I want to watch this movie now
No that was supposed to be a joke
@@sweetnsour3693 both
It's one of jokes that's funny but also a good character study
Pretty much sums up my current state
I really really loved this film. The aesthetic of the movie was incredible. The characters were incredible. Pete was incredible. It was a good plot, lovely movie. You will enjoy it. You mark my words
Keep on watching the trailer every single day. Lines in this trailer get stuck in my head and the music, absolutely fantastic. Absolutely excited to watch this in cinemas on Thursday, gonna bring all of my friends and family over and over.
This trailer almost made me cry, which is absurd lol i began dating my late husband when I was 14. He always wanted to be a firefighter, his grandpa was fire chief and his uncle a firefighter in Detroit. The idea of him being one scared me to death but I was so proud of him. He would of loved this movie, he sadly passed away young in a tragedy and its been really hard. He was not what you would picture a firefighter to be, he was short, skinny and they trained him for confined space rescue because of it. During fire academy at college his uncle and grandpa were instructors so all the instructors knew him and fucked with him lol because he was smaller they would say "hey elves cant be firefighters" from that christmas movie line "elves cant be dentists" 😂 im just excited to see this, he was funny and somewhat of a hot mess like pete is lol he would have wanted to see this. God im lame. This comment is the worst 😂
Howd he die
42 year old male, kinda did the same
that's a beautiful but sad story. i'm glad you still can think of the good times with him!
This is the most beautiful thing any human could write, thank you so much for sharing your story mate :) regardless of what those men said, he sounds like he was a hero
Daniel Johnson “Regardless of what those men said...” You misunderstand. They weren’t being serious and condemning him, on the contrary, sounds like he was fully excepted into the brotherhood. If we trust you with our lives, we’ll jack with you at every opportunity.
bill burr is also one of pete's biggest comedic role models, so it must be extra dope that he gets to work with him
Which is interesting because if you listen to Bill’s podcast you’d think he hates everything Pete Davidson stands for.
Nez Mustard like what?
@@nezmustard lmao for sure
@@nezmustard I mean, Pete comes across as a whinny over egotistic ass hole. He has to be in the spotlight, he cries about his dad in 9/11, and acts like his father death is why he is the way he is, blames him from the way he talks.
But no, that's not why. He thinks he's the hot shot in SNL, when he can't hold a scene longer then 2 lines without breaking
His jokes are the exact same, my dad died hahahaha, I'm lokey crazy hahahah. I do drugs hahaha.
Dude we understand you have an problem, please get help
That said, this movie looks good, still don't like Pete, Hope he gets better, but he's always going to be an entitled person until he starts gaining some self reflection, which this actually looks like
It’s always fun seeing comedians act in dramatic/serious roles. Especially ones from SNL
they often good in dramatic roles somehow
no one knows not even my own family, I struggle with depression; I keep it to myself, I love this movie helped me cope with everything, ly pete❤️
Hey man you’re not alone. It does help when you open up to someone. Holding it in only gets worse in the long run. I used to think it made me feel weak but really it makes us stronger, because we battle with ourselves everyday just to feel “normal”. Seeking therapy and or opening up to a close relative is very helpful. They will understand and you’d be surprised there may be people close to you who suffer as well, they’re just a little better at hiding it. Wish you well.
I have never been so surprised by a movie this shit was good watch it now.
The movie definitely surprised. It had a lot of heart.
Yeah but surely there’s gonna be a part 2 right? The ending had no closure
The movie was fucking great it exceed my expectations, also I dig the Scorpions profile picture
movie is way too relatable, absolutely incredible
