How I Sketch a Pirate Scene for Concept Art! (Timelapse + Narration Tutorial)

In this concept art tutorial video I record about an hour of digital painting and condense it into about ten minutes. I talk about values, a strong read and emphasize the importance of sketching!
we'll be using some free 3d software to make the giant pirate skull, which will be essential for saving time when creating quick and loose concept art. Then we'll be sketching in details using Photoshop custom shapes and then overlaying even more custom shapes to create realistic rocks.
Thumbnail sketching is a vital component to your concept art workflow to help you generate ideas quickly. It's also important to try and keep away from 3D for a while, to really allow yourself the freedom to create in a very immediate way. In this digital painting tutorial I'll walk you through my concept art process that I typically use when sketching large exterior environments like these.
