Rick Emmett is one of the best frontman of all time. Mike Levine on bass and Gil Moore keep the beat going. Just a phenomenal 3 piece band like Rush and both coming from Canada.
PERIOD
Canada rocks!!!
He teaches guitar at a guitar summer camp for kids here in Etobicoke (Toronto)
@@paulrosebush9137 too cool
@@richardcranium5048 Yeah, he's a very down to earth fellow. Comes out to meet the parents, says hi.
Such a criminally underrated band. They deserve to be remembered, right up there with greatest groups of all time.
So true
criminally underrated is criminally overused and lame
@@timliscum2861 guilty as charged.
YES! , ABSOLUTELY!! LOVE TRIUMPH!😊😊
No doubt. That wonderfully innocent child I used to be bought this cassette in 1979 at a trading post located in a little gold mining town called Dawson City, YTC (Yukon Territory of Canada)!
Not only a great band, but one of the greatest 3 piece bands in history.
“I don’t ask for much, the truth will do just fine.”
Best rock lyrics, EVER!!!
It is absolutely in the conversation. Been one of my favorite lines since this song came out.
There are several songs with a fantastic lyric here & there. But that line is obviously Top Shelf.
I SAY THEEEEE EXACT SAMEEEEE THING!!!!!! MY FAV LYRIC IN ANY SONG!!! EXCEPT FOR "WHAT!! SHE TRIPPED FELL LANDED ON HIS DICK???!!"" GUILTY CONSCIENCE BY OF COURSE RAP GOD EMINEN
Yessir! We can all relate to that one line!
Rik Emmett is one of the most Crimanally Underrated " vocalist and guitarist in Rock and Roll.
Underrated by the masses. I know a guy who is in some known bands who often posts videos of Rik.
I totally agree
Who’s the official underrater? Rick is top rated to me and millions more
Too bad Journey couldn't have picked him up instead of Perry. Just as good(better imo) a vocalist plus a great guitarist.
@@BlazinRiver1 ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY!!!!!! WAY BETTER LOOKING TOO!!😊😊😊

Nothing like rock music from the 70s. We had the best and Triumph is a musical gift.
YEEEEPERS i was 18 in 1979
53, and still love it!!! Triumph was one of the very best. Back when Canada ruled the Airwaves. 😎
Glad to see you finally hit Triumph! "MAGIC POWER" is their song that should speak to reactors. It's a crime that there aren't more reactions to it.
Yes yes and YES, lyrically awesome as well.
My favorite of theirs ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Right??!!! Make it happen Capt’n!
Totally agree since it's all about the power of music.
agreed 🤘
Remember this is live and it sounds great, perfect harmonizing!!
Sorry but this is not live. It is lip sync with fake crowd overdubs. All the harmonies are Rik Emmit
To top it off, THIS IS LIVE! They sound fantastic!
one thing about Rik Emmett, he never just noodles or shreds aimlessly, it always has a musical statement & direction in his licks. That's pure musicianship.
Another three-man band from Canada they definitely didn't get the recognition they should have they are a great band
Triumph is my favorite band. Another great Canadian trio. Rik Emmett is one of the best lead singers/guitar players in the world … i have his autograph tattooed on my arm 🤘🤘🤘
Honestly, it baffles me to no end that more people haven't heard of Triumph. As far as I'm concerned, they're the best... EVER.
They were great but second to the best 3-man band in the world who were also from Canada, RUSH.
They credited Rush for helping heavy rock bands like them from Canada to break through. Rush debuted in 74 and this band followed in 75. Both trios from Toronto.
Both top tier bands as well. Sonically the best trios of their time. Or all time for that matter.
Triumph. One of the best rock bands ever!
The drummer shares lead vocals and has an amazing voice too.
Hot time in the city is a good Saturday night party song.
Ric Emmett's voice is UNTOUCHABLE. He has such a great professional and personal reputation as well. I love Triumph. Please check out the live version of this song at the US Festival from 1983.
I was at the US Festival that day, and was blown away by Triumph. Rik Emmett is amazing.
He's quite the guitar virtuoso as well.
Ya but this was 1979 The 70s were fantastic
The 70's was the BEST decade for heavy Rock, and Triumph was one of the best bands.
Rik Emmett was considered one of the best guitarists though the 70s and 80s. He was constantly on Guitar Magazine's cover. I have had the privilege to see him solo a half dozen times, and he is still a fantastic guitarist. His voice has aged...he's 68, and it isn't what it used to be, but it's still pretty fine. A note about his name, his first name is Richard, usually called "Rick", but a goof up in the printing of their first album shorted it to "Rik", and rather than force them to reprint the entire record run, he changed his stage name to Rik.
Hey, great choice. Huge Canadian band, awesome in concert. Have to check out their hit "Magic Power" !!! Thanks guys 😍
Magic Power is just timeless!!
That's my fave
The drummer created and developed their pyro effects because he couldn't find what he wanted in the market. These guys were phenomenal and were superior musicians. Ric Emmett can play rock, jazz, classical, folk you name it. Huge guitar collection.
Rik's Voice is Unmatched . His Guitar is pretty Good Too . Awesome Live Band . Saw Them twice . Wish I could see them twice more .
If you look closely at the double-neck guitar each neck has a different amount of strings.
Great song, great band from my high school days. Check out their song "Fight the Good Fight".
That is my fav Triumph song
On the double neck guitar.....it usually has one neck 12 string....and one neck 6 string....gives you much more freedom to switch it up during a song
I've seen tons of concerts/shows and Triumph is still the best I've ever seen play live. They were incredible.
I saw them in Halifax in the 80’s, absolutely incredible
April Wine was also excellent live!!
Rush are still the kings in my book. Seen both bands many, many times. Emmett can match Alex on guitar and top Geddy on vocals, but Rush's rhythm section destroys Triumph.
Rick Emmitt is an amazing guitarist and vocalist too. More songs:
"Follow Your Heart" (w/lead vocals by drummer)
"Fight The Good Fight"
"Never Surrender"
"Spellbound"
"Magic Power"
Don't forget 'Hold On' and 'World of Fantasy'
@@briand8470 and "Tears In The Rain"!!!
Amazing Canadian band! Look for the video of them at the "US" Music Festival from 1983.... All that music from three instruments!
And allied forces! So many great songs
@Daryl W I hope you're doing well,
I'm from Calgary Canada and I actually was at the US Festival when I was 16 years old.
Triumph was one of our favourite bands and we did go to see them every time they're in town. There is a 40-year anniversary of the US Festival coming up this may !
I don't know how to go about it, but it would be good to have like a zoom call with people who were there.
Thank you for recognizing Triumph
Underrated power trio. Nobody ever talks about them but they were great when I was growing up.
Oh you guys are just scratching the surface with this song! Triumph was on many partying playlists in my teens and 20s! Try a few more of their hits:
- Fight the Good Fight
- Magic Power
- Never Surrender
- A World of Fantasy
and Hold On!
All of the above!!! Please.
Total aside. Does anyone remember “Tell me what you want” by Zebra? 🙏 Loved that damn song and none of my peeps remember it.
@@stefaniebrauer128 I remember that song. I think I first heard it on MTV back in the day.
@@centuryrox some friends and I were coming up with songs we loved then but hadn’t heard in forever. Zebra came up and Trust by Megadeath. Back on the playlist it goes!!
Definitely one of the most underrated and overlooked bands ever. Allied Forces is a great album.
Great vocals. Great harmonies. Great musicality. This is Triumph!!!
1979 . ROOOOOCKED
One of the greatest songs of all times! I'm glad to see that y'all loved it as much as I do!
Great Canadian band from the Toronto area formed in 1975. Rik Emmett is the lead singer.
They earned their success with their live performances.
Their highest charting song was Magic Power.
The Tragically Hip is another iconic Canadian band you should try. New Orleans is Sinking or 50 Mission Cap are good to start with.
No the Hip song to do is Locked in the Trunk of a Car..!!!
@@jordan390a Do them all🤣 , but gotta start somewhere.
Tragically Hip FTW
BOBCAJUN
"Blow at High Dough" is a must!
Triumph is the most underrated and underplayed band from the 70's. They rock and should have received much more acclaim. Dive in!
1979 RELEASED
Amazing Canadian band of the 80's.
They still resonate over 40 years later, with plenty of attitude.🎸....
The best and most underrated band to come out of our country. Follow your heart is another great song. The drummer has a great voice as well!
Jay this was a huge hit in early 1979
I get goosebumps every time I hear this song!!! How hot 🥵!!!! I had a boyfriend who made this our song in the beginning of our relationship!!!! Underrated band!!!!!
I remember seeing Triumph in the early 80s they were one of those groups that would play the Super Jam shows, I saw them with Styx, Sammy Hagar, Ted Nugget and R.E.O. Speed wagon
Must have been great ! Not sure who " Ted Nugget" is though ..🤣🤜🤛
But be fore the 80s there was a decade called the 70s And these bands were all ready jamming
@@theodoreritola7641 I grew up in the 70s when Styx, Kansas and REO were playing state fairs since they were all from the Tri state area
Triumph was an absolute powerhouse in the 70's into the 80's. Phenomenal talent with great song writing. Always up beat, positive messages in their songs - right up your alley. My favourite band from my teen years. You should just dive right back in without waiting!! Magic Power, Hold On, Fight the Good Fight, Never Surrender, Somebody's Out There, Spellbound, American Girls, Suitcase Blues,... So many great songs!!! You have just set up my soundtrack for the day!!
Loved this concert!
bringing back memories. thank you
You know it’s a great band when they sound just as good in concert as the record or cd
Triumph was the first concert I ever went to.
Some songs to consider:
Follow Your Heart
Magic Power
Hold On
Fight The Good Fight
A World Of Fantasy
Never Surrender
Spellbound
Say Goodbye
Another great band from Canada. Along with Bachman-Turner Overdrive and Rush, Triumph these three bands together we're leading the foundation for Canadian Rock
Don't forget Trooper!!
1 up for BTO.
April Wine
The first canadian band with world hits : GUESS WHO
Listen to "These Eyes" and "American Woman"
April Wine too
Nobody can even come close to Rik Emmett's voice or guitar playing or his looks or his great mind truly o e of a kind from our era!!!!
Rik’s voice is exactly the type of rock voice I prefer! I love the higher pitched voice, a high scream sound and yet strong! And the guitar!!! Yes! Just all around perfect!!
Then you'll love greta van fleet!! I grew up in the 70s and love greta. New era of rock!
Rik Emmett's voice and guitar work are amazing. Out here in the Bay Area, there used to be a concert series called "Day on the Green" back in the 70s and 80s held at the Oakland Coliseum. It was a whole day of amazing bands. I went to one in like 1981 or 1982. The lineup included Knight Ranger, Loverboy, Journey, Eddie Money, and Triumph. Talk about an amazing day of music!
Yes, I went to many of those, they were great!!
Loverboy, another great Canadian Rock band!
I went to the Day On The Green in 1991. Soundgarden, Faith No More, Queensryche, and Metallica headlining. Awesome show!
@@kelliekeefer2558 I actually recently found my concert t-shirt from the one I went to. Not that it would fit, but it's cool to see it after all these years. I came across a bunch of others too. Incentive to get into better shape so I can wear them!
@@FarrellMcGovern When "Working for the Weekend" came on at the Prom, everybody rushed the dance floor.
Probably the most underrated band of ALL time!
Nope. That would be King's X. Triumph headlined arenas/stadiums.
Nope. That would be UFO.
"Fight the good fight " another great song from Triumph
The passion during this song is overwhelming!
Triumph is exceedingly versatile and talented. One of my favorites! Their catalog will surprise you!
Great reaction. Guys, they have other songs that are so inspirational. Try, Magic Power or Hold On.
Love seeing a younger generation listening to great music we had back in the day. Will always be on my Playlist.
WAS NOT 80s the 80s where a year off the 70s made the 80s
I had the pleasure to see this very lineup supporting this very album. Phenomenal show....just a great band with a positive vibe.
Triumph was the best concert experience I ever had. Front row tickets slightly left of the stage, smaller venue (2,000 seats), four security guards preventing anyone from approaching the stage to prevent injury from the pyrotechnic show, I sat, not stood, in my chair for two hours, approximately ten feet from Ric Emmett. It felt like a private show in your own living room. My favorite song by Triumph is "Woman in Love", off their "Progressions of Power" album from 1980. It wasn't a radio hit like many that are recommended to you. It was just a great song. The radio hit off that album was "I Live for the Weekend". Great band. Great times.
Me too! I saw Rick solo at Berkley School of Music in Boston, and that was a very special day let me tell you.
I never got to see them live,
After the breakup, Rik went out on his own and used to play Terry's Corners Fire hall in middleport NY every year! Never missed ashow there!!
Awesome guy and singer top notch!
Triumph, like Rush, will NOT disappoint - the drummer sings also ! listen to it ALL - you'll fall in love
Can you imagine, Geddy Lee and Rick Emmett both emerging in Toronto almost at the same time.
Jay/Amber, their "Hold On" is next for you! Rik Emmett one of the great rock voices.
Another great band listen to them all the time. They didn't get the credit they deserve. Thanks Amber I hope your cold gets better. Heard your little one in the background love it . This makes you seem like it is a common family ( I guess not staged) . So it makes your reactions more enjoyable , or real. Love it . Thanks so many bands to explore. Enjoy the wonder of music.
Oh yeah they're right up there with DEVO HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I saw UFO and Trumph back in the day....what a show. Saw Triumph with Night Ranger too.
“I don’t ask for much; the truth will do just fine…”
Your reaction video came up on my CZcams suggestions and it’s wonderful to see the younger crowd rockin’ to bands like Triumph! I’m in my 60s now and love your reactions. Thanks for bringing me back to the heydays of some of the best music from that time. My generation was very fortunate to have grown up on this music from numerous bands that are too many to list on here. Thank you!
I haven't heard Triumph in decades. Thank you. Somehow they got lost to me from all the others but i remember that we were big fans. The same thing happened with Montrose except for Sammy Hagar doing "RED" with them. A must do studio version.
Gotta check out “Magic Power”, “Say Goodbye”, “Spellbound” and “Fight The Good Fight”
I just heard Spellbound at a Journey concert.....it was like the music they play in-between sets. I about fell out of my chair!!
I saw this concert in Toronto Maple Leaf Gardens in 1986 when I was 16. Loved them ever since.
Triumph is one of my favorite bands that I grew up with in the early 80’s and I THANK YOU for featuring one of my fave songs by them! They were and still so underrated!
Triumph is a powerhouse! For more from them I would try "Follow Your Heart", "Magic Power" and "Time Goes by".
Fight the good fight is one of my favorite songs of all time!! Rik sings lead on most of their big hits. Another being magic power, which I think Amber would love.
Their drummer sings lead on many songs also. My fav is a not to popular bluesy song called young enough to cry! So good
Fight the Good Fight has some the best, humbling, motivating and life affirming lyrics ever in a rock song.
As you can tell, this is my all time favourite band and the first rock concert I went to in 83! Nobody does it better than Rik, and the talent in the entire trio is ridiculous. Gil Moore (drummer) sings lead as well, they share it between them. Please do Fight the Good Fight, it's my favourite song by them and trust me, there's a lot to choose from.
One of my big sister's favorite bands growing up, and one of my earliest introductions to rock and roll. Rik Emmett remains to this day one of the best guitarists and vocalists of all time. From the mid-70s through the 80s, you couldn't go more than a few hours before hearing them on hard rock radio stations. Check out "Hold On", "Magic Power", "A World of Fantasy", and "Follow Your Heart." Bangers every one!
All phenomenal choices!

Ya gotta love our Canadian bands, they really know how to ROCK THE WORLD 🌎!
Need to get April Wine some much deserved love!!
Im so happy I grew up with this music in the 70s and 80s!! Great song and band!!
LAY IT ION TGHE LINE Came out in Early Jan 1979 ITS 70s Amber
I was lucky enough to see them live a couple of times in Michigan. A trio that sounded like ten people were up there playing. Great band that deserved more fame.
Its just this simple. Rik Emmett is the best guitarist ever! He has a PhD with the guitar. He also has a great voice. Triumph was my favorite band ever, until Queensryche came along. But they are still number 2. This is a killer band. You really need to dive deep here. And if you really want to see Riky go off. Listen to Natures Child. Its so fast and clean it will give you goosebumps after 100k times hearing it. Love Triumph. Rik is a hell of a nice guy too. Quality person
FINALLY, next you need to check out “magic power or fight the good fight “ (live from the US FESTIVAL ‘83). Gil ( the drummer) also sings “ allied forces or rock and roll machine “ for starters.
Amazing vocals, saw them at the US festival 1983, they were amazing
One song from Triumph that never stops to move me (solidly!!) is "Killing Time" (preceded by the intro "Time Cannon"). It ALWAYS pushes me to do things and stop delaying them... Awesome song.
"Magic Power" by Triumph was my go-to power pop song as a high school kid in the 80s!
Another Canadian power trio! Rik Emmett is the most underrated Guitarist ever...He shines on their song Rock n Roll Machine! To me its a toss up between these guys and Rush as the best Canadian Rock Band! Magic Power is another Triumph super hit! Got to see them Live in 1981..was blown away!
This song comes the Just A Game. It really is a strong album. They should have broke bigger than did. Fantastic live band.
Triumph released albums from 1975-1993.
Fight The Good Fight, one of their best, was inpsired by singer Rick Emmetts Aunt's battle with cancer.
They had a very positive vibe esp for the genre. They were were well known for their support, individually and as a band and for their charitable giving and support of educational and humanitarian causes in Canada.
One of the added niceties of spending five years stationed in Alaska was hearing all these great Canadian bands on the Fairbanks radio stations. Queued this reaction up and the wife was rocking! She remembers Triumph from Alaska, too. Nice pick!
Triumph got a lot of play down in the lower 48 too. I saw them in concert in Boise. They weren't unknowns for sure. However, now days they've been kinda forgotten. But I have a feeling reaction channels will be bringing them back as they search for groups and songs they haven't done yet. It's not hard to appreciate Triumph.
Triumph was a Canadian hard rock band formed in 1975 that was popular in the late 1970s and the 1980s, building on its reputation and success as a live band. Between its 16 albums and DVDs, it has received 18 gold and nine platinum awards in Canada and the United States.
Lay it on the LINE REALESED IN JAN OF 1979
Should be in the rrhof by now. Sadly ignored and never nominated.
1983 US festival, “fight the good fight” truly live! That clip you just listened to was the video, studio version.the amazing thing about Rik and Triumph was they equaled and often surpassed the recorded versions performing live, you’ll be totally blown away!
Triumph are an incredible band! Listen to their song “hold on” high energy feel-good song! One of my favourites of all time
Great song that I’ve been listening to for such a long time since college. Rik Emmitt is such an underrated singer and guitar player. Also he seems like really nice dude.
"Blinding Light Show" & ""Rock And Roll Machine" are their best! They bumped heads with their fellow Canadians who were blown up on 2112! "BLS" has my fave guitar solo.
Great picks... Hard to pick a favorite but right now I'd probably go with Just A Game, but tomorrow if might be Young Enough To Cry can't leave out Suitcase Blues one of the first songs I ever learned
"...the aimless mob keeps shouting out...hurrah hurrah hurrah..."
Rick Emmett is a phenomenal frontman and guitarist! A World of Fantasy and Magic Power should be on your list!
One of my all time favorite songs and band!! #80's ♡
ACTUALLY, THIS WAS THE 70s 1979 so its 70s

In that same era out of Canada, we had Rush, Triumph, April Wine, Frank Marino & Mahagony Rush. All amazing bands that inspired so many bands throughout the years. Got to see each one of those bands live and they all put on an amazing show, there are no favorites for me because I love them all the same. Rush started in 1974, Triumph in 1975, April Wine is the oldest started in 1969, Frank Marino started in 1970

Massively underrated band. MANY great songs!
a documentary was just released about the band "Triumph: Rock & Roll Machine" HIGHLY recommend it! they weren't just a phenomenon in Canada, they're recognized world wide as one of the greatest bands and live shows ever, the Jackson's were so impressed with their live show they stole Triumph's lighting guys for their reunion tour.
Great doc! I've watched it twice now
Just saw this and thought it was really great. It was nice to see them from the beginning, all the ups and downs , how they persevered.
That's a cool piece of trivia I never knew about the Jacksons! Thanks for sharing it with us!
Absolutely sublime song. And "magic power" is just as good or even better.
Very underrated band. Often overshadowed by another Toronto area based band called Rush.
I love Triumph!!! They were great in concert!! Hold On.....Spellbound......Magic Power.....
MAGIC POWER is Triumph's signature song. A MUST listen!
Triumph, April Wine and Cheap Trick were my go to bands in high school. Triumph had quite a show with pyrotechnics.
April Wine is a great band
Magic Power is fantastic!!!
3 great bands
And a way ahead of their time Laser light show
OMG, you need to hear "Never surrender" and "Fight the good fight". These two songs will blow you away.
I had front row tickets for their showand rik Emmett was only 10 feet from me and the sound of those speakers just blew me away 🎸😜🥞😁🎸🥁🎶🎶🎶
Amber, Jay another GREAT Triumph song is "Hold On". I would love to see you react to that one. Other top songs are Magic Power, and Fight the Good Fight. I hope you do Hold On but as a great man once said"if you chose not to decide, you still have made a choice". No not Confucius...Geddy Lee / RUSH. All definitely well in my list of top 10 Greatest rock bands.
Another great power trio, so happy you chose more Triumph, but J, next one of them you must play is Rock N Roll Machine to really hear a mind blowing guitar solo, Rik Emmett will blow your mind!! Also so happy you're playing more Canadian artists, and here are a few more bands you can check out in the future.....The Barenaked Ladies, Our Lady Peace, The Tragically Hip, Blu Rodeo, and Colin James .....just to name a few, I know you both will dig these great artists from Canada. Hope everyone is having an amazing day......Peace, love, and happiness to all, your friendly neighbor from the north....
