a summer reset in seoul, korea vlog | books, social media break, chatting, and journaling
I realize that my into isnt super clear - honestly the clips of me swinging were giving me motion sickness as i edited so i had to delete a lot of what i said to cut it down lol.
mainly, i was starting to be concerned with 1. wasting my time and using social media to fill moments when i could be doing other things i love but that might take a little more effort and 2. how much my personal taste and how i place value on things was being affected by the content i was seeing online. So i tried to get offline, waste my time other ways lol, and focus on things that i know have and will always bring me joy regardless of an algorithm!
hope that makes sense and sending love always!
This is what I wanted to do too! More off screen and more time out of the screen. I hope I can do it.
The "..how I place value on things was being affected by the content I was seeing online" part. I felt this so deep in my soul.
This couldn’t have come at a more perfect time! Been stuck in this feeling for a while,, thank you for making this video and reminding us how fun it is to swing haha
I enjoyed the intro a lot! There's a bit of a different texture to this video, compared to your usual vlogs; not just because of the intro, but overall, and it's sweet how the change in cinematography is reflecting your character development, so-to-speak. 😊
I think we all have to remember that social media, and the internet in general, is a tool at the end of the day. And as with all tools, how well or badly it works for you often depends on how you use it. I have found great and beautiful things and people thanks to social media, but it sure is easy to get swept up and have the algorithm go from useful to detrimental. So kudos to you for re-examining how you're using this particular tool in your life, we all should do that more often! :)
I'm excited to see where your musings and wanderings are taking you in the long run, and how that will affect the videos you're making in the future. ❤
So many little things I love about this vlog - the dress over jeans outfit, the kitty wandering into the grass, the library visit, rainy day, and bookstore!
hehe thank youuu!
This feels like the essence of summer: questioning how to continue the rest of the year, struggeling with emotions, stumbling into random events (concerts, markets, fireworks)!
Introspective Cari is refreshingly honest for an "influencer"... I liked your mood boards... I challenge you to pick a room in your apartment and decorate it as if you'd won the lotto... I noticed that my 'waiting for the lotto life' inhibited me from actually doing anything, so I did what I could with what I had within the bounds of being a tenant, and I felt really good about making my space as mine as possible
This sort of content is why I come to your channel Cari, I love the culture, sights, temples, everyday people and odd places, nicely done. 😃
One thing I am grateful for with social media is finding you! I mean, how can I love a person I don't even know, so much? I truly do appreciate you so much. You're a beautiful human & I love seeing
S. Korea through your eyes. I pray all beautiful & happy things find you always. ❤
omg thank you so much :'') sending love and happiness your way too!
the way arirang continued in bg even after u left the concert is a cinematic genius, 10/10 editing :)
can never go wrong with that song :')
Time for coffee and watching Cari I guess.
❤❤❤
Always my favourite times I'm looking forward to 🥰🫶
I've been following your videos since the beginning of this winter.. So much so that I continue to watch from current to old videos with great pleasure. When I don't feel like doing something or I'm in a low mood, your content always makes me feel at peace. I have a master's exam this Monday and I'm pretty nervous (I graduated from the art history department last year🐿️) Now, while I was having such a tense night, this video of yours made me get away from the thoughts in my head a little. I hope you will always continue to create content because you really have a channel that is completely unique and has different feelings. Thank you for inspiring. 🌸🪺
🥹🥹🥹 so happy to be a part of it all! good luck on your exam 😍)
@@caricakes Thank you very much 🌻 The museums and galleries you visited in Seoul will remain in my mind during the exam (I hope you continue to go to places like this, those contents are also very informative and full of joy for me🌻) Thank you again 👋🏻
I love waking up on a sunday morning knowing there is a new cari video waiting for me
thank you :'''') hope you had a great day!
Rear Window is perfect for any mood, but especially melancholy. I think I'm going to watch it today.
agreed!
Congrats on 400k, your vlogs are great!
Cari, I love watching your videos so much. The music, the visuals, your voice, your taste in books-all of it speaks to my soul.
I have been on my own social media cleanse journey the past couple of months. My challenge has been to be completely off socials and for about two months now I’ve only logged in 5 times. I have noticed a WORLD of difference in my mental health, how I spend my time, and my confidence. I’ve found similar issues within myself-that I almost no longer know what I actually like vs things that I’m just exposed to over and over. This has been a study in getting to know myself again and the gifts it has brought me are:
•reading SO much more, and rediscovering my own taste in books
•a return of self confidence, feeling more at home with my body type and facial features, no longer feeling the need to compare to others (and frankly no longer feeling like I need to compare or chase the lives of others)
•the big ones- I have signed up for yoga teacher training, a dream I’ve had for years. I have noticed more gratitude and joy in my everyday (like picking up my cat each morning, kissing him on his precious furhead and marveling at the softness of his fur). This break has brought me closer to myself.
I agree that phones, social media are not inherently‘evil’ but I do think the seperation is healthy.
Glad to be journeying something similar with you!
Lots of love from the US 🤍
I love your videos. Sometimes I purely turn them on for the soundtrack. It got me in the summer mood and I ended up on my terrace reading a book.

영상과 음악이 너무 좋네요. 아마도 cari님이 바라보는 시선이 다른 사람과 달라서인듯 합니다. 너무 좋네요👍
I dont listen to music during Ramadan which is hard but it’s always amazing when you listen to music for the first time afterwards. But I also had more time with my own thoughts with no intrusions.
oh thats right!! i've always been a bit interested in silent retreats, etc for that reason but i also am so intimidated hahaha
Cari, thank you so much for your relatable videos and content. I am also trying to reduce my screen time by focusing on the things I enjoy/love this summer.
Good luck to both of us!
I am one of your older viewers and love going on the swings. I’m always stared at because it’s considered a child’s play thing but seeing my pure joy makes people laugh in the end 😊. I’ve had many a life changing thought while swinging. Your content no matter what or where it just brilliant. Having watched the current video, I can’t wait for the next one. Thank you 😊
yes!! we all still need to play :)
“Play” was my “word of the year” last year; as adults sometimes we take life too seriously and need to make time for play amid the busyness ❤
22:45 love how you layered the music over the clips here so pretty T-T
thank you :')
I really love your vlogs Cari, they really inspire me and it's my favorite part of the day when I come home from work. It's like the moment of calm an silence I need. I'm really glad that my CZcams algorithm found your channel for me. I love you. Keep doing it, you're great!❤ 🥰
not me here trying to just watch your video but i keep instinctively picking up and scrolling through my phone 😫
lol nooooo!
your videos have given me the courage to go out and do things on my own❤
🥹🫶
Another great vlog, really enjoyed it and so appreciate your candid thoughts on limiting social media. Instead of scrolling, I find it is often good to spend more time in nature, learn something new, practice a musical instrument, have a conversation with a friend or loved one, and make small progress in other areas of life. Thanks so much for your videos.
The opening ❤️❤️. I don’t just sit and think anymore. I definitely need to lower my screen time. Haha
🙏🙏🙏
I realized I was doing this too! I have a wind down routine of watching CZcams while I play an hour or two of video games before I really kick into gear getting stuff ready for the next day. But I realized I only end up catching half of what's going on in the videos or I have to pause my game at certain spots to really pay attention. It's just so easy to get sucked in so I've been putting music on first before anything, playing my games and then only watching CZcams when I have everything done so I can focus only on the video and relaxing in bed! Ironically my other relaxing in bed activity is pinning different things on Pinterest that I like for my future dream home because I also never know what it would look like but I love certain features and architecture. Sometimes people just have a dream locked in and I've always been jealous because I never want the trend or what's one specific design theme.
This felt so real and personal ❤️ it’s a topic I think about almost everyday. But going cold turkey with social media is REALLY hard. It’s so difficult to strike a balance in this day and age.
Thank you for yet another beautifully crafted video!
A random comment but I saw The Killers 2 weeks ago in Manchester and recording myself screaming Somebody Told Me is one of my favourite videos of myself ever 😁❤️
lol forever a bop!!
happy 400k cari! ☀️ this is one of my favourite videos you’ve ever made!
you talked about so many things that have been on my mind lately. i keep thinking that being dissatisfied with myself or where i’m at simply means i’m learning and growing. i shouldn’t feel bad about coming from that place, because it means i’m striving for something different… dare i say better? and we are so young, we are going to have this experience a hundred times over. that’s kind of beautiful if you think about it - that we care so much for ourselves that we will make the effort time and time again.
sending lots of love from london! i’m off to find a swing set 🌸🤍
you always motivate me to do a lot of things that İ love doing instead of scrolling for hourrs and hours... love you a lot cari
Such a good and important exercise to take a step back and tune out all the outside influences.
This vlog felt like life was rewarding you for your efforts in reducing screen time, so many nice moments 😊
Totally resonated with this entire video. I've stopped plugging my phone in by my bed at night. I also try to bring a small knitting project with me wherever I go to pass the time instead of scrolling. I am now inspired to find a swing set by me ❤ Thank you!
Loved this! and it was so timely for me because I've also been feeling quite stagnant that was induced with anxiety; I'm waiting for something and that wait made me just drown in a slump of not doing anything that I used to enjoy; so I ended up spending way too much on social media scrolling and I'd end up feeling super unsatisfied with everything I have! I was feeling very bad to the point of losing my apetite. But thankfully I talked with my family and also started to get back into the things I like (learning languages, taking photos, watching old classic movies) and I'm feeling much better. It's important to be able to get yourself out of that slump before it's too late! So, I'm happy you're feeling better now too!
I love the little sit-down conversations at the ends of your videos, very reminiscent of when you sit down with a friend late at night and just philosophize about life.
Rear window is one of my favourites!
a classic for a reason for sure!!
Me too!
Mirroring your openness on your fave things, I'd like to share you're the only vlogger I have constantly kept up with in terms of vlogs. I can't seem to stand other vlogs who (may not be intentional) but has a sense of showing off. I feel yours is more grounded and organic hence why I prefer it. Happy 400k!! Can't believe from 30k you've grown this channel so much 🥹
I went on the swing set at my local park a few weeks ago when nobody was around. I felt free, no worries just fun. It's a little moment of peace I keep just for myself.
yesss
Using my phone less is top of mind for me too. Something that has helped me is remembering that a lot of companies have poured resources into making their apps addicting so they can profit. It makes me less inclined to reach for my phone, and it makes me gentler on myself. Anyway, I hope you continue having success! ❤
I have trouble fall asleep as I stopped taking my anx!ety meds, but your videos alwaaays make me fall asleep! So I continue them in the morning. 😅❤ It is just so relaxing.
I started watching you about a year ago and compared to now I am in a completely different place in my life but I still always get the immense sense of comfort and peace when I watch your beautiful thoughtful content. Love you Cari🤍❤️
Your editing style and music choice is very relaxing!
I've been watching your videos everytime I need to get away from my hectic messy life. Thank you Cari for this peacefulness you show us every time with your sweet smile . Love U ♡
Thank you for the vlog!!
i used timers too but i always hit ignore once it pops up hahaha for me i need the change to come from my own choices rather than timers/settings but they do help me feel guilty :''')
@@caricakes Really feel you! Timers didn’t work for me too, so thats why I decided to just delete it all… hahaha. Wish there was an option to turn off reels!!!!
ugh same!!!
I recently switched to a flip phone for that exact reason. I felt like I didn't have a single thought of my own. Just the ones that are pushed down my throat by social media. There's no wrong way to do a detox, good job.
omg yes i wish i could do that sometimes! maybe for a vacation one day :)
Every week I am looking forward to your vlog. Thank you so much for sharing. Have a lovely time in Seattle.❤❤❤❤❤
joy is waking up to your vlogs every Sunday
I love the timing of this video! Last night I had a moment where I was thinking about cutting my social media screen time after realizing how what I’ve been seeing, mostly on Instagram, is negatively influencing my perception of what is truly valuable. Thank you for the lovely vlog and the inclusion of Anti-Romantic to the soundtrack 😂🤍
cari, your videos are TRULY food for my soul
In This video you put into words exactly how Ive been feeling ❤
im so glad!!
I've started trying to distance myself from my phone as well. My friends a teacher and she said that children's attention span is now like only 8minutes because of tiktok and it got me thinking if their attention span has been affected surely mine has too.
So I decided to try and put down my phone, stop putting my headphones in to avoid having to talk to other people and the change is insane. I didn't realise how much of life I'd been like tuning out. Its been hard definitely but really worth it to be back in the world and just enjoying the moment I'm in.
wow... this video has some healing properties 💗
It's so comforting to see that other people, on the other side of the world, are also struggling with feeling stagnant and kick-starting meaningful experiences ❤ I have been really trying to be more mindful and centered and for getting back to "my basics" and this video was so heartwarming and inspiring. Thank you Cari for being this presence in our lives!!
yesss we're all on this weird and wacky journey together!!
Dear Cari, thank you so much for your vlogs!
Today I had a terrible morning because of shelling in my city.
One of missiles hit children's hospital.
I am heartbroken and feeling really bad.
But thanks to you and your vlogs, I can be teleported to the peaceful, beautiful world, even if it's only for 30 minutes.
You help my mental health a lot. Thank you❤
What a lovely video Cari, watched this while eating dinner and loved being somewhere else in my mind for a while. That bookstore though!! What a dream! Love x
so many things going on in this vlog, the books, your outfit and bag LOVE, txt’s anti romantic bgm.
, the rainy vibes I am loving so much and I haven’t even finished the vlog
thank you thank you :')

Swings are the best! Hope your summer is spectacular ! Thanks for all you do! :-)
they really are!!!
I loved this vlog. Good job Cari ❤
OMG I WASN’T READY FOR THE ANTIROMANTIC COVER!!!
I don't comment on videos much on here but i found this video really inspiring and motivation so I had to. I spend way too much time on my phone and it is getting in the way of being productive and doing other things, getting inspired, reading a book and made me realise how chronically online I am. I now too want to try and take a step back from doom scrolling on my phone and actually participate in what i actually like/want to be doing. Love the little mood board thing at the beginning and want to make my own to remind me what I like doing and why I like doing them to make me want to do them more. So, thank you for this video! It's been super helpful.
I was loving this video and then the anti-romantic cover came up and I fell in love all over again and all the memories associated with the song came up too.
I agree with you on the mindless scrolling, it could be a June thing or idk what, I’ve had so much work but I’ve been scrolling Instagram and Facebook mindlessly in June and I’m not even one to put work aside and just scroll.
Somehow June was physically painful, bored and all that until I picked up My Year of Rest and Relaxation, in the beginning I was thinking ‘oh someone who feels meh and is merely existing’ and halfway through I woke up, I felt like I am the one sleeping away doing nothing, I finished the book and the first thing I did was realize that my room and bathroom needed cleaning, clearing 😂, I went on a deep clean, discarded or donated things I don’t use anymore and it finally dawned on me that I spent two months without even realizing it.
Also if you want to reduce screen time, I suggest you check out DIY Book Nooks or miniature dollhouses, the booknooks take like 2 days to assemble and it’s so much fun. I get mine from aliexpress and it’s a very refreshing hobby.
It’s still raining here now and then and hopefully by late July/August the sky would clear up for some amazing walks in the evening.
Thank you for this video, it was very healing, reminded me of the korean movie Little Forest 😄.
And there is not much to happiness, it’s the little things that make us happy and look back ❤️
You’re really cool. Always enjoy your videos like this. Hope you are having a great summer. ❤
Loved the anti romantic cover so much 😢
No matter how funky our houses as a kid, my dad made sure we always had a swing inside and let me tell you, absolute game changer
Thank you for this Cari! Been watching and waiting for your vlog! You inspire me 💖
🤍🤍🤍
I love making moodboards for books, shows, even seasons and people. I have a pinterest board with different folders, and the one I made for myself is extremely helpful when I start doubting who I am, I highly recommend having something like that! ❤❤
yesss! i have a dream board but i usually just add things to look at later and then never look ahhaha
Thank you, I kinda needed this! It's nice to hear that I'm not the only one who's struggling with their screentime and excessive scrolling on social media! I've been cutting that down by setting reminders on my apps and also finding things I genuinely enjoy, like you do as well. I tend to struggle with consistency too, so this video is a nice motivation to keep going. And I love swings as well. I will make sure to get on one this week ^^
good luck to both of us!!
Couldn't sleep so you uploaded just in time Cari ❤ I will unwind with your video ✨️
im glad you're comfortable interacting with my content again :')
i don’t normally comment but just wanted to say, thanks for being here and thanks for reminding me to be aware of the little things that count!! love watching your vlogs queen
omg thank YOU!
The intro with the swingset is spectacular...as is your music choice in the Cranberries. "Rear Window" is so good! I've got a movie recommendation if you want to just put on something in the background: If cottage core were a movie, it would be "The Taste of Things" (Ahn Hung Tran, 2023). There is a storyline in there, but it doesn't really matter if you only pay attention to the food. If you're desperate for an audiovisual text that engages the senses without too much "excitement," watch it.
Oh looking this up right now!!
ah! this video is such great timing bc i’ve been trying to get off my phone more. especially in the mornings!! it was getting so bad where it would be the first thing i consumed.
collaging different things you like sounds like such a cute idea. i love that for inspo/reminders to myself. will have to get on canva & put something together 👩💻
omg yesss morning scrolls always start me off on the wrong foot! good luck to both of us :')
love your energy ❤❤❤
Hai Cari,I don't know if you notice my comment but I just want to tell you that I really love all your vlog videos and I also liked all the song you put in the vlog. Some of the songs especially in the London vlog are my favorite.TQ and keep doing great video.
Ahh I love Rear Window! A perfect summer movie. My siblings and I used to watch it all the time as kids. And just recently I showed it to my 10 year old daughter for the first time and she loved it!
yessss a forever fav!
Congrats on 400k :) yay!!!
thank you so much :')

I’m early today 😍 Sunday morning with Cari vlog is the best ❤
Happy sunday!!

I hope there are future tours like the ones you had in iceland and japan :)
Rear window is such a favorite in my family it was cool to see you watching it!!🎞️📽️🔭
yes! one of my most watched films growing up hahah
Thank you for another wonderful video 🎉❤
I’ve definitely had moments like you were experiencing while making this video, usually along the lines of “Am I doing this activity because I like it and it brings me joy or is it because I feel like I have to/it’s expected?” (Eg this will make me a well-rounded person, it’s healthy, etc.). Reflecting on what really makes you feel like your best self and sometimes giving yourself that little push to do those things will remind you “Yeah I actually do like XYZ!” Without having to think too hard about it. Can be easier said than done though for sure 😊 way to make that leap and focus on what you truly care about!
Great video Cari! It was so cozy and made me want to go out and explore!🤍
thank you!!
Thank you Cari, I needed this video ❤

Love the vibes ! :) I feel inspired now to cut down on doom scrolling for ages :)

Wow there is something different about this video! I feel like you truly mastered how to give a theme to your video and yet keep it spontaneous and free, I always loved your editing and how you capture everyday life, but I truly felt like I had a lovely conversation with a friend. I can tell how dedicated you are to creating a personal and safe space and I love how you always try to improve your life and yourself through introspection.
I've also been struggling with doom scrolling these past few weeks, and along a few other personal things it has made me quite sad. But I'm slowly getting better and your video is a real source of inspiration! Thank you, I hope you'll always take care of yourself and prioritize your well-being :)
thank you so much and hope things get easier soon :')
