      Many thanks for watching. It really was good to see it getting used straight away. I think we now have 4 different types of bird boxes up, trying to do our bit to help out nature.
      Hope you give it a try too.

    You'd have to take it apart to clean it out after nesting?

    • @diyhomeandgardening
      @diyhomeandgardening  Před 3 měsíci

      Hi. Thanks for watching and your message.
      To clean out the nesting box you simply unscrew the front. That is how nearly all bird houses are cleaned.
      All the best with your build 🌻

    Do you have sparrows in them yet an can you hang this in a west facing sun

    • @diyhomeandgardening
      @diyhomeandgardening  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Hi thanks for watching and the message. Sparrows have been nesting in this house for the last couple of years but it’s a little bit early at the moment for them to be nesting yet.
      I hung the box on the side of the house which is south facing but the other boxes are west or east facing.
      I think so long as the box isn’t in an exposed position facing north then you will be fine.
      Enjoy your build and watching the sparrows 🐣

    Is the wood untreated?

    • @diyhomeandgardening
      @diyhomeandgardening  Před 5 měsíci

      Hi Paul.
      Many thanks for watching and the message.
      Yes, I would only use untreated wood for making a bird box. You don’t want to have any chemicals leaching out when the wood gets wet.
      Enjoy your little project 🕊️

    When i make them i leave a slope on the roof to stop water lodging.

    • @diyhomeandgardening
      @diyhomeandgardening  Před rokem +1

      Hi. Thanks for watching and your message, much appreciated.
      Definitely worth the effort to slope the roof a little if the box isn’t going to tilt through fixings or surface it’s fixed to.
      Keep up the good work 🌻

      Not finding fault (no way) its just where i come from it rains a lot, an awful lot and i only make single nest boxes, so i was checking out yours to copy it and have a go. I liked your video very much, sorry, i should have elaborated on my first comment.

    • @diyhomeandgardening
      @diyhomeandgardening  Před rokem +1

      @@birdwatcher4147 No problem at all. Instead of cutting angles you can always add a small piece of lead or felt etc to the top so as to cover the top of the roof.
      I kind of think that anything you make is going to be more enticing and weather proof than a natural nest 😀

    How to hang it

    • @diyhomeandgardening
      @diyhomeandgardening  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for your message.
      If you are putting it onto a brick wall then you will need to use a masonry drill bit to make hole, insert rawl plugs or similar. Screw through the back of the box and into the rawl pligs.
      If fixing onto timber then you will only need to use screws to secure through the box and into the wood.
