ABBA recorded a whole greatest hits in Spanish called Gracias Por La Musica which was then expanded as ABBA Oro with later songs also recorded in Spanish (and just so you know it’s pronounced B-yorn kinda like Beyoncé ) 😁

Frida recorded David Bowie song life on Mars in Swedish on her Frida ensam album
plus her solo Swedish version of Fernando
and Bowie himself did a nice version of the winner takes it all

"I'm in a daze!" Dude, did you not expect a group of Swedes to sing one of their songs so perfectly in Spanish? 😜 Their talent knows no bounds! So, I think it's high time you heard "I Wonder", where Frida's vocal really does make one cry (don't go for any fan videos, just the Album cover will do, it's her voice, not visuals, you want to fixate on) 😙

Hello again, thanks for doing your first reaction to ABBA song in spanish
    "Estoy soñando"
is the first official video that ABBA did in spanish
is the spanish version of "I have a dream"
for the great success in Latin America,
then ABBA recording "Chiquitita" in spanish, it was a smash hit,
and the second song that ABBA recording in spanish (that year) was:
"I have a dream" ("Estoy soñando")
    curiosly the two ballads
    "Chiquitita" & "I have a dream"
pick #2 at begin and at end of 1979 in UK
    (in the english recording)
    another curiosly:
    1979 was the
"International year to the childrens of the world"
and these is the only song in ABBA (since their comeback in 2021)
with other people: a childrens chorus of Stockholm in the final verse
and "Chiquitita", with lyrics about a child, your royalties was donated to UNICEF forever
two ABBA songs with childrens as protagonist
maybe you could react to "Chiquitita" in spanish too
there's a few TV perfomances of ABBA in Spain 1979
or "Gracias por la musica" (1980) official video
I wish you a great week
    my best regards from
    Buenos Aires, Argentina
    South America

    @eduardooscar309 Před 10 měsíci +8

    Dear friend
surely I already wrote something to you when you made the video for "Chiquitita"
Its success was so great in Latin America that ABBA began to sing in Spanish as well.
But since they don't know the language
(only the guitarist Björn has some knowledge)
The lyrics adapted to Spanish are from the Argentine brothers
(from my country) Budy and Mary McClusky
and the ladies Frida and Agnetha
    they sing only for phonetics
    helped by a Spanish journalist
This is how they recorded in 1980 an entire album in Spanish
ABBA had already recorded "Ring Ring" in Spanish in 1973,
but did not release it until 1995 (several years after their breakup in 1982).

Another smile and a tear as I watched this. What you're experiencing is The Magic of ABBA. They were smart to market Spanish versions of some of their hits. You'll need to experience the Spanish versions of Chiquitita, Fernando, and When All Is Said and Done. Frida also has a Spanish version of Andante Andante she did years ago with Artist Arturo Sandoval (You'll need to react to the English version first). P.S.: Always trust your fans with the catalog we are recommending you. We will not steer you wrong.

They sang phonetically, guided by a pair called Buddy and Mary McCluskey, who wrote the Spanish lyrics based on the originals, and who helped them with pronunciation in the studio. (Man, those English subtitle translations in this video are a bit shaky.) Gracias Por La Musica, their 1980 Spanish album, definitely worth a listen. Check out Chiquitita in Spanish.

Love this anecdote from translator Mary McCluskey at the International ABBA fan site (don’t think CZcams will let me post the link): “The recording sessions were very special. Agnetha and Frida did not speak Spanish at all. We had sent the lyrics to them earlier, and they had worked on the pronunciation with a journalist named Ana Martinez del Valle. When we arrived, Chiquitita had already been rehearsed but, before the recording started, we had to make some changes, and Buddy wrote a phonetic script for them. While Frida and Agnetha were in the studio, we were in the control room. Buddy put on his headphones to listen to the girls and check for any mistakes. Obviously, they did not know the language, and they did not know what they were singing and so, for example, during romantic parts we made some kind of hand gestures to let them know it was a romantic part. You know, the voice must accompany what you want to express. I wanted to make sure that what they were singing was understandable. Buddy and I took care of different aspects in the recording sessions to achieve good results.”

I don’t know if they speak Spanish, maybe Björn, but they do have a lot of songs in Spanish. They have a few in Swedish, German and French. Actually, Frida has a song in French after ABBA and she recently released a new version in Spanish of “Andante, Andante”.
You should watch the Swedish version of Waterloo, lol. They look so happy because they’d just won the contest. 😁
