- We spent £62 on a RAM & M.2 drive to upgrade a cheap (£89) Dell Optiplex 3050 to improve performance. Wow! What a difference it made. We love bargain hunting and this was bar far the best find we've made. Rather than using a 2.5" SSD for the OS, we opted for a lower cost M.2 drive and with the 8GB of RAM we added this is now a super fast daily computing powerhouse. There's no getting round the onboard graphics, but for daily work this is now a brilliant Small Form Factor desktop PC.

Its either M.2 PCIe "NVMe" or M.2 PCIe "SATA", but they are not the same thing. They are the same form factor, but have different "Keys" and very different speeds.

These are decent little machines, I have one I use for video processing.
Similar setup to what you did here, except I also have a 4tb spin drive for storing finished files.

after checking the documentation , this model use just a controller for M.2 not the performance of nvme / so that's why the speed is slowing
I just received my 3050 today I found your video quite useful and I'm about to order a M.2 to add to mine, do you know if a m.2 pcie x4 mvme will work? I'm looking at a 500GB WD Blue SN570 NVMe SSD Gen3 x4 PCIe and wonder if it'll be recognized.
I just followed this to a tee, installed a 250gb Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus m.2 nvme and my OptiPlex 3050 has now COMPLETELY shit itself. Won't even boot.😤
I thought he was going to show us what goes in that blue slot at the top right near the power box, I have a similar desktop but have been wondering what goes there so I can purchase it then add it.

i got the 3040 dell are they all ddr3l ram or is this one a bit newer i was wanting to upgrade my old pc will ddr3l c11 1600geh 135v ram work in my pc and will a gddr5 gt 1030 graphics card work in mine

Looking at buying a 3050 to upgrade into a gaming (ish) PC.......One American website I stumbled upon was selling these for $370, a SFF (small form factor) model with 8gb and 240 HDD..............then I found on a UK website a minitower 3050, again with 8gb but with 240 SSD for a mere £115........and what I found even crazier was the website stated how much they buy these computers for, and the company only pays people £29 for one. Who is selling these for £29??? Someone desperate I would imagine.

Is anyone having a problem with overheating of the SSD in M .2 slot in the Dell Optiplex 3050 small form factor I have several Dell Optiplex 3050s SFF i5-7500. When I checked the SSD installed in the M.2 slot with crystaldiskinfo, they all have a temperature problem with the m.2 slot. No problem with the cabled SATA 2.5 inch SSD. So far five out of the five I have checked the SSD in the m.2 slot has a high temperature.
the kingston KC2500 must be give you more speed / on my laptop the result show me 3189 read and 898 write

Even the Microsoft office was taken off.
