  • Let’s visit Kolkata, a city that retains the essence of India. Stop, Look and Go! I personally love traveling to this city because Kolkata it closest to witnessing an era we have only read about in the textbooks. It starts from the pre-independence era to all that contemporary India is all about.

Fantastic video on Kolkata. Amazingly narrated and great use of language too. I am a Tamilian liviing in Hyderabad , India and I love Bengali culture so much that I even became a life member of the Hyderabadi Bongiya Samithi (that is one of the few Bengali associations in Hyderabad). I always dreamt of visiting Kolkata and travel once in a tram, meet a Bengali girl and have a good Bengali lunch with her. Never happened so far. Bengali Cotton / Kolkata Cotton Sarees I always buy for my mother and she loves wearing them. I love Bengali sweets and sometimes visit Durga Pooja Pandals in Hyderabad mainly for tasting Shondesh, Mishti Doi and Moghlai Parathas. The sights and sounds of Bengal are so amazing and the Bengali people are so knowledgeable, hardworking and intelligent too. Wow !!
In your video you could also add Eden Gardens , The White uniformed Policemen, China Town and Bengali sweets and Fish too.
The essence of Bengal will be enhanced with these in your video. Hats off to you ..Great work . JAI HIND
AAMAAR SHONAR BONGLA. Bengal Vaazhgai Valarmudan (In Tamil it means may Bengal Grow and Prosper). :-):-):-)

Along with the factors mentioned in the video responsible for the decline of the city people often forget the attitude and decisions of the Central Govt towards Bengal. Be it managing the partition after effects or industrialization later. Resources have been extracted from Bengal and distributed to other parts to let them develop. The legacy is still on.

To understand kolkata You have to first love and embrace your culture..the traditions..our country's glorious past. You won't either get or love Kolkata if you are looking for affordable 2/3 bhk flats in Newtown/Bangur. If you want to revisit the past..get nostalgic then kolkata is the place. Kolkata has always been the cultural capital..literature....visual art..music....fine arts...you name it.So you won't like Kolkata if you haven't found the true essence of life. If you are a bibliophile, kolkata will guide you to the stairway to knowledge and wisdom...with it's celebrated book fair and numerous public/private funded libraries.
Don't come to kolkata if you want to be wise..go to Baranasi instead.
Come to kolkata to have a better understanding about your past, your people, about your country,

They fact that people still hold on to their beliefs and age old customs and traditions is commendable.
To me a city is defined by the people living there and these 2 trips gave me a handful of friends whom I'll hold close to my heart till the day I die.
If you were to ask which is the most beautiful place on earth I would say without another thought that for me it's Kolkata. I'm so much in love with the city that I'm looking forward to get settled in the city someday.

For me development means not having to wade through shit on the roads, potholes and traveling at 15 km per hour squeezing through people and animals. Not having to be bombarded with noise throughout the day and night. Development means cleanliness and civil people with decent personal space and privacy and decent amenities.

All those can be achieved even without getting rid of your culture. Moreover the shit on streets, potholes and animals are vastly exaggerated in India. Roads have tremendously improved in all cities. Animal on roads specially in Kolkata are hardly seen and most of the ''shit'' are in small alleyways due to street dogs and cats.
