The Ancient Archer of India

  • In Kerala's Wayanad hills, lives a man named Govindan, who still practices the centuries-old archery that his forefathers once used for hunting. Back then it was a part of life but now he only used his skills for teaching the young ones. When I met him, I got to understand a little bit about the relationship of his indigenous community (kuruma) with nature.

As a kid when I visited Kerala, this is how everyone looked. Lean, athletic bodies, sharp features and stunning thick hair that didn't grey even into the late 50's and 60's. Then everyone lived closer to nature. My grandmother cooked such simple basic food but even the most basic chutney or sambhar tasted so amazing. People consumed fish, poultry and mutton occasionally but it had a very rich vegetarian palate. Now literally everyone is scarfing down red meat, alcohol, obesity is on the rise. Brides wear 100 kgs of gold on their wedding thanks to stupid trends set by gulf returned malayalees. Unlike other cultures, I feel the beauty of Kerala's culture has always been it's simplicity and it's co-existence with nature. Instead of genuinely uplifting communities like his, the communist party has probably stolen all their lands to it's own party members. Please don't believe the stupid narrative that communists got rid of casteism in Kerala. All they have are tall stories. I would hear stories of Christians in kerala getting tribals addicted to alcohol and get them to sell their land for cheap while inebriated. Since the tribals had never tasted alcohol before they would immediately get addicted. All this was supported by Congress party during that time and hence Christians are a major voting block. That's how they got foothold into all these lands reserved for tribal communities. So if you are wondering who gave votes to Rahul Gandhi for election and why? It is all the people who benefited from land grabbing. Indigenous religions and tribes need to be protected. He is right, technically all the lands in Wayanad belongs to his community. All the secularism stories you hear about in Kerala is hogwash. Unfortunately the current generation of malayalees actually believe in it because that is how good communists are with setting a fake narrative.

Also bow and arrow is so holy for us that for functions of new born and death we have to keep it.
Also munda tribe of jharkhand organise a yearly hunting festival known as JANI SHIKAR ,where only women are allowed to dress as a men and go to forest for one day hunting .
