    I always wanted to learn how to make pots. I'm glad this channel was recommended to my CZcams. One of the best in pottery making.

    Beautiful artistry.
    When I was at college, I ran away from the wheel like a thief...now I regret. Pinch, coil, slab,...the wheel is more fascinating.

    They seemed more interested in telling crap jokes and fake cackling. Was good when they finally shutup and started paying more attention.

    Beautiful piece. I enjoyed watching a masterpotter at work. Too bad I could not hear his comments. I was forced to mute the audio and begin the video at the start. The foolish people added nothing to this. The Zen of watching this must be done in silence. I admire the extreme concentration and patience shown. Nice to see such a craftsman who is younger and attractive, as it seems most masters are geezerly.

    must be difficult when you're not working in your own environment MATT? timing of different aspects can be a challenge for you. You did a great job of this vase even so. Thanks for sharing.

    How long have you been throwing on the wheel? Watching you work on this piece, makes me think of the times I was on a ceramics class and now I want to have my own studio to make pieces as a hobby and double up for my boyfriends wood turning.

    A beautiful piece - so what would have been different if you had done this as one piece? Is there a benefit to doing it as two?

      +Nick Doe Normally a piece of this size would be made in one go, this was just to demonstrate the joining process. You can achieve much larger pots if they are joined in sections.

    So do u torch it to dry it some, removing water? Does it make it sturdier?

      Yes :) it dries it out and makes it a bit sturdier to work with

    Is torching the clay necessary? Do you torch most of your works or is there a certain size that you have to?

      Hannah Kingsbury torching the clay also gives it more strength, it stiffs it up as well.

    Why do you torch it?

      It helps to dry out the clay a bit, to stop it collapsing on itself :)

    So, He uses the torsch instead of cooking the pieces?

      No, the torch dries out the piece while it's being worked on to give it additional stability. All pieces are still fired in the kiln.

      It looks like he's throwing with porcelain and that does tend to be more expensive than other clay bodies.

      This was as part of a workshop where I was asked to demonstrate how I would join two pieces together. Normally I would only use joining for bigger vases. Thanks :)

    Doesn't seem as though they were truly interested in what he had to teach as much as they were their own voices. Gawd why do people have to do that? Cackle cackle cackle - Geez.
    He is a fantastic potter - they had a great opportunity to learn if they would have just shut up and observed.

      This was a mix of porcelain and stoneware from Highwater Clays. Normally I use Audrey Blackman Porcelain :)
