Her reaction when you told her she can take as many pictures as she wants🥺
Haha. Right?!? This is why we do this stuff.
Stumbled upon this video, honestly? the very sweet spot between film and digicams. Both are getting quite expensive and for people like me who enjoy carrying around a tiny camera just to collect memories it sounds like a great option. Sure it could have a better sensor or shoot raw but probably it wouldn’t cost $65 so i’m willing to accept that.
I’m totally getting one
Yea. For what it costs, you can't go wrong. It's that classic 3 options, pick 2 scenario where you can choose between low price, quality and vibes. This camera is price and vibes.
There's a similar product to this that was in development about the same time called the Flashback camera, and in a lot of ways it's very similar to this. The gimmick that it employs, however, is that it only takes 27 shots per "roll" and that the camera links to your phone to dump the photos, however you don't get the immediately... instead they "develop" and unlock after 24 hours. It's totally a novelty and a gimmick but there's something charming about it and continues that theme of staying out of the moment and moving on once you take a photo. I also think that because it links to a mobile app wirelessly that might make that computer-in-between issue you bring up here less of a pain. No idea on the quality of photos but I'm expecting a SIMILAR result to other small sensor digital cameras like this, the Paper Camera, etc.
I saw those. It's a fun idea. Never sure about the gimmick of waiting a day, but phone connectivity would be really great.
@@JTobiason On an intangible level I think it's the nostalgia of not knowing how your photos came out and the anticipation of seeing them. But also it plays into what you touch on where it lacks a screen so you are more likely to shoot and move on. While not a huge thing I figure having the immediate connection with your phone might encourage checking each picture like we do with our cell phone anyway so maybe keeping it behind a timer helps gets our mind off it.
I ordered one but I don't have it yet so can't speak to how effective it is, we'll have to wait and see.
Yea. Makes total sense. Have fun when it arrives!
I really like it. I’ve been wanting a camera that is digital but looks vintage for a long time. The issue in the UK is they tend to cost a fortune for a similar quality or it’s a film camera you need to buy which costs a fortune in developing (I don’t have the space at home or I’d learn and do that myself). For me this seems to tick the boxes and so I’ve bought one. Even if I was dissatisfied, it would be a great camera for my kid like you’ve done here. Thanks for the insightful video!
Glad to help. Enjoy! You'll have a blast and you can't argue with the price. It's a great tool for laying around the house. Just practice with it for a bit to learn it's quirks.
What a fun camera and so easy. 😊
😀😀😀
This looks super interesting. I think a revamped version with slightly better exposure correction would really be perfect. I really liked the indoor images around 4:17 - I think it did a good job (outside of the caveat that the hightlights are burnt out). What I usually don't like is the noise with all its colors with digital sensors. However, I think I'll get myself a pair (can't order a single one apparently) for mainly black and white stuff.
Thanks! I like that one too. I think I was mostly just trying to capture the relative cleanliness of the room at that moment. ;) And yea! It looks super rad when converted to BW. You'll have a blast (and that negates the white balance issues during daylight images).
While not convenient to switch back and forth, they have a very nice black and white firmware available and it's easy to setup.
Looks like this actually has decent dynamic range, which is usually one of the most obvious problems with cheap digis
It's pretty OK. But, in bright scenes, really struggled with white balance and in mixed light, would default too bright, often blowing highlights. It's that kind of scenario where you wish you had a few more settings to change this, but at the same time, the whole point is the simplicity.
Waiting for mine to come in. Shipped today. Excited to put it to use and or tear it down and retro fit it to a cheap film body
Whoa. That's a wild idea. I'd love to see the outcome I'd you do something crazy. Say hi @jtobiason on IG of you do.
I got this for my kid and I'm pretty impressed. Takes me 5 seconds to level/crop and make a minor tone adjustment. The noise feels very even and consistent, though it's definitely pretty high. Unlike similar specs from 20 years ago, though, it looks a lot more like film grain. It's surprising how moderately well it handles tough lighting situations without looking blotchy. Would definitely love to see the slightly more advanced version with a couple modes and extra features, but in addition to, not instead of
Yea. It's fun. And definitely there is that balance of wanting more features, but also the whole reason I wanted it was simplicity. It's a cool thing.
Wow I hope this comes to the UK. Definitely want one of these. Brilliant.
Do it! It's a fun camera!
I’ve just ordered one they ship to the uk for £9
I think if you turn all pictures into BnW the grain could actually make it look really cool... But yeah it does look a little bit rough. More consistent white balance and a bit of noise reduction would go a long way. Thanks for the thorough and honest review. Right now I would probably recommend any Canon Ixus compact camera :D
Totally. They look great in BW. I just took a bunch of photos at a wedding with it and am excited to see how those turn out.
Great review! Looking at their Instagram it seems like they’re looking at adding vintage filters like you suggested. They posted some test photos about a week after this video was posted.
Wish there was a bigger market in this price range for a digital camera with the sentiment they have in mind. Closest ‘competitor’ I found was the Kodak Printomatic but it seems to fall short in this context because that camera favors its features as an instant camera (as the name implies) rather than its features as a screenless, digital, point and shoot
OH! I just saw that look of the filters. That'll be fun when they roll it out.
Epic! My next camera, will be fun to see how big it will print😊
Good luck!
Kodak I believe came out with the Mini which harkens back to those days when you took a bunch of photos, took the roll to your developer to process the film and waited to see how the photos would look.
Thanks for the video. I wish you could have included a link in your description to it. I'm very interested in it. 👍🏻📸 I can't believe you dropped it and kept that in the video! 🤣😳
That would make sense to add a link. And it is a very sturdy camera. My kids have dropped it many more times.
Great video. Looking for something for my six year old son for a family trip…this looks perfect!
It's super fun. We are on a trip now and it's been fun to have around. I haven't seen the photos yet. So 🤞🤞 my daughter made a couple good ones.
This is the first review I have seen of this which 'gets' the use case of this camera.
I actually made a review which I was planning on editing today, but you beat me to it.
I learnt with film, so I have bought a 64mb card to allow myself to force that stress of 24-36 shots...
Glad to help. And the small card is a great idea (except my 5 yr old daughter uses ours, soooooo I'm going to give her the space).

Way to go! Nice work!
@@JTobiason Thanks
I have a really expensive camera but honestly to just have in my pocket and take it out would be nice. This sounds like the perfect solution and i dont want pay for film over and over again.
It's a fun little camera!
Loving it though, its a perfect sub for a disposable
Totally agree!!
You think these would be good to pass out at wedding receptions? Looks like a cool option
Yes, definitely They'd be a blast. Especially during dance parties. It worked the best in dark scenarios and party scenes.
I used two of these for a wedding over the weekend. My wife and her friend used them but they didn't take too many photos unfortunately. The results were not too bad for memories though. There was a lag with the flash and that seemed to confuse them a bit, but the company just released a firmware update that fixes that issue. I haven't tried the update yet. I would pick one up and see how you like it first.
Yea. that lag is definitely a tricky one. And good to know about the update. I'll look into that too.
Great video! I backed the kickstarter and I love this camera! For $69, it’s incredible IMO.
I would totally buy one for $199 if it had a modern sensor. I think these sensors would have to be from the days on $199 digicams from the 2000s. Yet, I like the nostalgic look of these photos.
For the price, it's incredible! And yea, if they ever came out with a "pro" version, that'd be an easy sell too. It's such a fun camera!
I just got mine it’s definitely cool so far. My main complaint off the start is that there’s no sling or something to attach a sling to.
Totally. I really wish there was a loop for a strap, especially when watching my 2 yr old try to use it.
Its basically a point and shoot Kodak 35mm camera body gone digital and takes the same photos through the viewfinder. My mom who was an amateur photographer, shot all the family photos with a p&s Kodak. 😊
Yea, but probably those photos your mom took look better because film is a lot better than this sensor.
Looks fun! Can't help but think this is a Temu/AliExpress find that's been branded then sold at markup. Any tell-tale signs?
Maybe. Never looked and definitely was sent to me from the US.
it's designed by campsnap - but it is really cheaply made. cheap off the shelf electronics and a flimsy plastic shelf.
Hi! I honestly dont get how it works. So can you download let's say when you have 100 photos or do you have to wait until you ran out of space to unscrew and check them? and can you use them again after? im lost
That's a great question. No. You can plug it in anytime to a computer. You use the USB-C port to connect it. Then either simply drag the photos onto your computer or use a program like Lightroom or even Image Capture on MacOS to import. Those programs have a "delete after importing" option that is helpful or you can just delete the images from the camera. Make sure you empty the trash before disconnecting (thats the same for both Mac and PC) to make sure it's cleaned off.
There isn't a way to format the card like most other digital cameras.
Exposure is a nightmare for me so far, blown out highlights. Your images on the otherhand look very well exposed. any advice?
Yea. That is the tricky thing. I've found that is mostly has issues overexposing in high contrast or mixed light areas. Now that I know that, I just try to take other photos. Wish I had a better solution.
Do you the files are printable at 4x6?
Totally fine. It's an 8 megapixel camera, which probably should max out around 8x10.
This, with nicer lens and sensor - nothing too fancy tho - supporting RAWs would really be great ! Just a quick treatment with presets in Darktable, et voila.
A nicer sensor/lens would be great. But honestly, I'm not quite ready for RAW on it. IDK, personally, that is too much for an intentionally simple camera. Just my own opinion.
Spend 3 months travelling europe with this camera. Took over 400 images without looking at any and downloaded them all when I got home. The camera is fun and a conversion starter but the images are horrible in every kind of way. A 2mp digital camera from 2001 takes better images. I was really excited about this camera but in the end realized it is just a toy for kids. Nice gift to kids but that's all
I'd 100% agree with this. It's super fun. It's great to use. My kids love playing with it. But I would never use it for a photo I really cared about.
The nostalgia of older point and shoot cameras and film has been a thing lately. I see where this camera has its place but the quality and price dont really match my expectations. If they make a v2 with a ccd sensor with low shutter lag say at the sub $200 range i would be interested honestly.
Totally a reasonable wish. That'd be fun.
is it possible to download straight to iphone via a usbc-lightning cable?
Hmmm. Good question. I just plugged in my phone to the camera and nothing happened. And the camera took photos normally. So, I'm not going to say definitely no, but it wasn't obvious.
@@JTobiason thank you! i just watched some other videos, some say it only works via usbc-usbc data cable, so it works with an ipad - which is great since the last thing i wanna do is bringing my macbook around
Oh, thats good to know. I saw some people on Reddit saying that if you use a regular USB-c to USB regular male and then a USB female-lightning converter it also works with iphones. But i don't have those, so can't check. Glad you found a solution!
@@JTobiason interesting!!! i’ll check that out in a few months when i get that camera haha
The colors looks great tho? I don't mind the noise. I really don't like the stills that are ultra clean. High res photos looks....sterile.
Fair enough! It's totally a vibe. There is something about digital noise that doesn't do it for me in the same way that film grain does. But that's all a personal taste. And these photos will not come out sterile. Cheers!
Good for action?
No. Definitely not. There is a 1-2 second lag between when you click the shutter until it actually takes the photo.
Hello! Anyone here tried the papershoot camera? I was about to get one then this popped on my facebook feed. I need comparison. This one’s way cheaper. HELP!!!
Oh yea. I'd love to see that comparison.
Its $65. What else do you want??!?!😂😂😂😂😂
It’s one banana, Michael. What could it cost, $10?
i'd want it to cost half of what it does.. it barely costs anything to manufacture.
You buy this so you can take shit photos, that's the charm
Haha. Exactly 🤣
Photos look awful and nothing like film. You are much better off with a 20 year old digicam for less money or using your smartphone with one of the great apps that simulate film cameras.
For an adult trying to make good photos, I 100% agree. But there is something pretty awesome about using this camera and it is so easy for kids.
@@JTobiason I don’t have kids but if I was buying for a kid there are kids for cameras that have cute designs for half the price of this thing on Amazon
Fair enough
take any camera from ebay or new smartphone in that price range and you'll get better quality. putting this retro look on every shit diminishes the film movement. this is just material for junk yard. i respect the creators for their implication, but they could make it more performant.
I agree about the quality. Disagree about it harming the film movement. And it's the lack or a screen that is it's best feature, which you can't get in anything else. I want my kid to have a pure image making experience.
the looks of it make it resemble a film camera. there could be a lot of people to get confused about it. i understand the reason behind the product, but i wanted another design, because the results have almost nothing in common with film. i gave my child my z50 where i disabled the back screen. works good!
@@JTobiason
Bro! Take a chil! I have two daughters that are my world. I have a tech addiction, and spend waaaay to much time on tech around them! This is going to allow me to capture moments and not get sucked into instantly reviewing them, instead I can jump back into the moment with my kids.
As far as ruining the film industry, I think the greed of film development and supply is doing a good job of that on its own. I have always wanted to get into film photos, but, the price now. Hard pass
@@JTobiasonagreed. I want my kids to grow up not being screen consumed. I wonder how long till some large health organization comes out and gives a warning about children and screen tech
we all have (or at least some of us) kids. and some of us wants to keep them out of screens. unfortunately, despite what we are (or will) doing, at some point they will be facing those screens. it inevitably in almost all cases. i think that us, adults, with our addictions, need to work on us and not block our children from technology. it's a great thing what this product brings to market. but a little bit different design and better sensor quality is needed for making me give this to my children. instead, i give my z50 (set to auto) and viewfinder only, just to be different than phones, to my child and it loves it. and yes, for children, i think that immediate reviewing the picture is a big plus for them catching a 'love' for this thing. we are different people and i can accept also different approach of the subject, no one is "the best". @@livingintentional2697
