  • Thank you all for 95,000 subscribers!! In this video I talk about positive symptoms like hallucinations and delusions, and negative / cognitive symptoms like issues with memory, difficulty speaking an showing emotion, and even trouble with daily tasks like personal hygiene. I talk about real life schizophrenia symptoms, and how no one wants to discuss these negative symptoms.
Let me know down in the comments which negative symptoms you or a loved one may struggle with and how it affects your daily life! I have another video coming out at 12pm CST on Friday!
Thank you all for the ongoing support! I am excited to keep making videos and spreading schizophrenia awareness! Don't forget that Friday is World Schizophrenia Day.

My 29 yr old son is schizoaffective. Very rarely showers or brushes his hair. I remind him to put on shoes or slippers when he goes outside. He has no social life or relationship outside the home. He takes the max injectable 6m medication. He used to be on the forensic team in high school before his onset. Now he's very hard to understand often...word salad. He stays up all night and sleeps in the afternoon. His room is usually a mess until I clean it though he does help with prompting. Refuses therapy. Wish I knew or had the strength to help him turn some things around so he has a fuller life.
Despite all this, he still has moments of being sweet and considerate.

I think you are opening up a much needed conversation for everyone. I believe that the negative symptoms you are talking about like personal hygiene, daily routine, and interruption of basic living skills are something that crosses into almost all mental health disorders especially depression and anxiety. And I personally feel that more of us are living with undiagnosed Depression, or at the very least spending longer amounts of time in depressive states, and are suffering with these same basic negative symptoms. So that is just my wordy way of saying that I think this topic will be of great benefit to a lot of people. Myself included. 🥰👍🏻😃

This is a great explanation thank you!!! Anhedonia is probably the most frustrating negative symptom for me, especially because I have schizoaffective disorder. It’s really hard going from feeling so much pleasure during manic episodes, to having very little passion during depressive episodes. Since being on medication I feel its levelled a Bit, but not completely. My antipsychotics and mood stabilizers definitely do their job, but make me feel like I’m kinda in a permanent state of depression with the ways the negative symptoms manifest for me. Not as bad as unmedicated depressive episodes, but still…depressed.

Negative comments are ignorant/uneducated or insecure people. I have ADHD and your videos are fascinating. I own businesses and all the negatives you mentioned are so similar. I always thought I was lazy etc, but it’s not laziness haha, it’s my bloody ADHD. Brain fog is a mofo! Fatigue is the worst symptom I’ve ever had as it’s chronic.

A mentor once explained Pos/Neg symptoms to me this way- positive symptoms are something that is not usually present but is *added* to the person's experience (like hallucinations or delusions). A negative symptom is something that is usually present but is *taken away* from experience (like cognitive function, speech, motivation, ADLs). It helps me to understand it that way.
Thank you for this and your other videos, I so appreciate your work!

One of my favorite videos yet. For me, I feel like medication has made my positive symptoms much more manageable but I haven't noticed a change in negative symptoms. My negative symptoms are worse than the positive and I appreciate you raising awareness of it. The inability to take care of myself, to socialize, and to feel true emotions are stuff that I deal with constantly. I've been able to concentrate better (a non stimulant was prescribed) but overall, it still stinks. Hope you have a good day

My positive symptoms are pretty well controlled with medications, but the negative symptoms are still there. I used to think I was lazy too, until I learned more about schizophrenia. I struggle with self care the most, but not being able to voice my thoughts is one of the most frustrating experiences.

I appreciate how brave you are to make these videos. I've dealt with my daughter for 20 years now diagnosed first as bipolar but now as schizophrenic. She is almost 40 years old and has had so much trouble. So I really admire what you're doing. The normal person literally has no understanding of mental disorders. And definitely we have to ignore the haters!!

  • @thickerconstrictor9037

I've said this on other videos of yours but I'm going to say it over and over and over again. You deserve every single bit of success that you are getting. Thank you so much for not only helping educate people like myself and many others who are very interested in the topic but just don't know that much but also making light of it and providing comedy and entertainment. Mental health struggles are a worldwide problem but America definitely has horrible healthcare for mental health and even worse education. For years and years I thought schizophrenia was when you have multiple personality disorder. I thought a psychopath was automatically someone who was a murderer or violent. But it's so much easier for a lot of people to learn, when comedy is involved and you make it fun. So thank you for bringing us into your world and shedding light on the struggles as well as your milestones and improvements and everything. You deserve all the success in the world.
I do have one question and hopefully I will get it answered eventually I'm sure you might have answered it somewhere and I'm going to keep looking but just in case you see this or someone knows the answer, I watched the video where you were in the airport and you were filming next to you to see if the person that you were seeing and hearing was actually there.
I wanted to know if you record the video and immediately right then and there watch the video, do you see the hallucination in the video also? Or can you look at the video immediately and realized by watching the video that there's no one there? Or do you have to wait until the hallucination is done before you can look at the video to see if they were actually there because the hallucination will show up in the video as well until the "episode" is over. I don't know what else to call it sorry if episode is the wrong word.

Negative symptoms need more visibility. Specially the cognitive. I'm not schizophrenic however i do experience some symproms like the negative and cognitive you mentioned. Reading about them has helped me understand them but still, when i experience those symptoms around people I feel awfully embarrassed and don't know if they'd even understand.
Hopefully this becomes common knowledge thanks to people lik you

I sincerely appreciate your channel. I have a slew of issues myself but I’m not schizophrenic. I didn’t realize that you can physically see and hear people talking. How can the brain create an image that is not there? How can you hear a noise where there is nothing there to make it? All these questions have me fascinated. I often put myself in other people’s shoes, I for one would have thought I was talking to dead people. I would literally go insane because I have no understanding of how the brain works.
You are doing a great service in sharing your experience. I’m a new subscriber and so far I have learned a lot. Thank you!!

Telling people with this illness that if they have enough faith they will be cured is very wrong and dangerous whether you are a believer or not. Schizophrenia is not punishment from God that needs to be prayed away. It’s a disease that is helped by ongoing care like cancer, not religious shame.
      All the best to u.

    • @Buddy_Wolfe
      @Buddy_Wolfe Před 23 dny

@@kangmyers I'm not shaming no one. Maybe not every case maybe demons attacking someone, But I truly believe Jesus can and would heal anyone that believes. Even in the Bible there are people seeing these unexplainable creatures.

    • @kangmyers
      @kangmyers Před 23 dny

@@Buddy_Wolfe But not all people have the same beliefs. And yes, telling someone with a profound mental illness that Jesus can stop it if they were just faithful enough is dangerous.
You can’t compare all mental illnesses to the schizophrenic spectrum. It’s different.
It’s complex and has a high rate of suicide.
And yes, to claim definite healing for others is dangerous.
This isn’t really meant to be a religious conversation I respect everyone’s beliefs, but it’s still a dangerous way to approach someone who has spent their entire lives praying only to get sicker and sicker.
Was I just not faithful enough?
      God wants me to suffer?
This is why some people don’t seek help for their symptoms bc they feel bad or wrong. Or they take their own lives.
So yes, claiming absolute healing from faith can be harmful to some. Unless you are talking to a Christian schizophrenic audience in which I encourage you to help them with your faith and love of god. Everyone deserves healing!❤️‍🩹
I’m just saying that proclaiming a cure-all is not safe or meant for everyone.
      Best of luck to you!
& Remember, you are one of 8 billion humans that have over 4000 different religions.
It’s not a one size fits all ya know? 😊
