When your neighbors start complaining about your screeching pump, it's a good sign that the bearings in your pool pump motor have failed and it's time to either replace the motor or replace the bearings in the motor. With the right tools, you can replace these bearings yourself. This guide is broken up into two parts. Part I shows you a step by step approach to removing the bearings of your pool pump motor. Part II shows you how to replace the bearings and reassemble the motor. Although this guide is specific to the Hayward Super Pump Motor, many steps are applicable to other brands of motors.

thanks for this video. I have changed bearings on a moped engine and did the pool motor bearings this weekend and it was very similar. one thing that can help getting the new bearings on is heating them in an oven at 300 degrees F for 10 minutes which makes them expand a bit and easier to install (wear gloves obviously as they will be hot).

Unlike numerous other videos on this subject, this contained actual usable information. Easy to follow too. Thanks for avoiding the ridiculous hype.

I may have bent the top contact while reinstalling, and want to check it before I reassemble it,
How much should the gap between the v switch contacts be when fully open?

Can one use the SKF skf 6203 2RS C3 bearing for a Wayward Super Pump 1HP or must it be a skf 6203 2RSR c3 ? Any experience with SKF bearings and Wayward pumps?

Is the pipe that you are using to push on the bearings a 1/2" or 3/4" pipe?

I'm curious if this is a demonstrator motor for assembly/disassembly purposes. It looks as if the internal fan cage is on backwards; it doesn't look as though it will pull any air through the windings and exhaust it out the grill on the front bell of the motor. I have to replace the fan cage on my motor (as well as bearings), and the fan cage had the solid flange part (from shaft to outer edge of cage) toward the front of the motor, with the open part (just the ring support for the cage) toward the back of the motor. That motor ran for over ten years.
I'm thinking your fan cage is on backwards. Can you verify this?

These two videos are great. I made two mistakes... forgot to mark the motor assemby before removal, and second wondering about replacing the motor fan.. I had a ruined beraing and it melted the fan down. How do I replace that?

I just replaced the bearings on my Whisperflo 1.5 Hp, and it didn’t change anything regarding loud motor noises. Should I just replace the motor then? Because it should be nice and quiet.

hey! thanks for you video, it is very helpful! i had changed the bearings, but the motor is still getting hot. do you know what might cause this?

    • @Inyopools
      @Inyopools  Před 7 lety +1

Have you checked the line voltage? If the line voltage is low, the motor will begin to run hot.
Also, pool motors naturally run hot, their temps can hover from 115 -200 degrees Fahrenheit. Induction motors create a lot of heat, the summer sun on the metal casing does not help much either. - MGS

    • @Inyopools

To find the bearings, we would need to know the model, part or Catalog number of the motor, not the pump housing info.

Heating the bearings in a toaster oven will expand them ever so slightly and they may fit on without pounding, or at least needing less force.

I got 7 years out of my AO Smith, I assume the seals went last year and bearings rusted over the winter. Its not whining, sounds like rusty bearings. $20 for the seal/o-ring kit, and $7 for 2 bearings. Motor was a common 6032 bearing. This should make the pump brand new again for $27.

Do you mean 2RS 6203 bearings? Two side rubber sealed bearings: 40mmX17mmX12mm; ODxIDxWidth respectively

There must be something causing the premature failure. I'd recommend using a heavy-duty viton shaft seal to help protect water from running down the shaft. Second, make sure water doesn't build up underneath the motor. Also, make sure sprinklers aren't hitting the motor and make sure water is draining from the roof directly onto the motor. You may want to consider a motor cover to help protect it.

If you want to make it even easier, never buy a motor with a v switch. It’s the most pointless, time consuming part of the entire motor. I can disassemble a motor, replace bearings, and have it back together faster than it would take someone to remove and reassemble the v switch assembly
