Outrage, yes. I survived a heart attack at 30 while training for my first triathlon. The only remedy advised to me was a triple bypass. Horrible experience. I was told by a nurse Iâd have another one in the next ten years while I was still in the hospital. Rehab was no help in term of diet. The best I could expect was a chance I wouldnât have another heart attack. I had to learn about plant-based eating 9 years later. Drs still make me feel I am crazy when I tell them what I learned and what I do. Why did it have to waste so many years! I am grateful to truthspeakers like you. Dr Greger saved me from crippling diverticulitis that robbed me of most of my twenties. If she lost weight and was no longer diabetic (you never said), that is purely a calorie excess issue, not whether she went vegan or not.

Most entertaining, true, informative, you need to add âmisâ in front of it, mis-informative. The heaviest object Michael Greger can lift probably is his formal suit. Holy cow heâs as skinny as my passed away grandma at her 90âs.

I jumped in all the way but I do a vegan brownie in a cup every evening. I still noticed the sweetness of that roasted (plain) zucchini this evening. I was flabergasted. I was so happy also when I went into my garden and picked a sugar snap peas and ate it. WOW! I'm so happy now and it's only been a couple of weeks. I feel so good now. The proof is in the pudding, uh excuse me, the celery. If people have the heart to try to eat a plant based diet and see for themselves how their A1C, cholesterol, etc. goes down and how good they feel, then they should be convinced that eating this way works. Back in 2016 I "experimented" on myself and in one month's time when I went back to the doctor she saw that my A1C came way down. She said, "Oh, I see the medicine I prescribed is working." That's when I told her I didn't take it. I showed her a log of what I had been eating. She was shocked. Every time I went to her after that she was excited at my changes and she continued to tell her other patients about it. She was of the opinion, at one time, that 'once a diabetic, always a diabetic' and so were some of her patients.
So amazing that you brought the proof to your doctor like that and charted your meals!
How wonderful that your doctor was so open-minded
@@melaniej.roberts206 Yes, that doctor was very open minded and she was excited about everything. I know a lot of other doctors aren't for some reason. I wish I could still be with this doc, but things change and people move.
You should know that there are countless people who use the "proof is in the pudding" argument to support different diets. There are countless people experimenting with keto or paleo diets who will submit that their diet has worked for them in terms of feeling good, losing weight, improving or eliminating existing medical problems, etc.
I'm carnivore and my A1C and cholesterol is very low.
Dr Greger is so dedicated to this work. He's amazing. I love that joke when talking about his sleep, 'I'm so much less productive when I'm unconscious'!!
I feel very lonely with respect to nutrition. My doctor tells me I'm crazy for being vegan. He tells me he's finished a masters in nutrition and that I should eat meat. I can't eat meat and animals products because I don't like them anymore. I have been eating vegan for so long that I could never go back to eating animal products. My family and friends also tell me I'm crazy and wrong! I live in a poor country, Argentina, that is famous for its beef and there are not many options for vegans. It's heartbreaking for me.
@andrea avila I feel for you so much. I live in the United States and there are quite a few vegan options at stores or restaurants, but I am the only vegan in my family. My husband doesn't agree with me and all my in laws don't agree and make fun of me for doing it. At family get togethers, every single dish they make has meat, cheese, cream, sour cream, etc. It's so hard and makes me not want to be around them but I have to. I feel so amazing though and could never go back to eating meat too. My doctor also is against a plant based diet and tells me to eat meat and feed my son meat. We just have to keep on going and stay strong because we know how we feel and we know what's right. Don't give up Andrea! You are not alone.
@@MusicLuvrGurl12 Thank you so much for your kind words! You're right, we have to persevere. I'm hopeful that our friends and family will eventually turn around once they see that we're very healthy with our diet while, sadly, they are struggling.
That sounds very difficult and lonely, especially given that Argentina eats even more beef than the U.S.! I'm a PhD university researcher and professor in the U.S., and part of what I teach is nutrition and part of what I study is how people--even very smart people--get fooled about what is true in various fields. I ate meat and dairy for 52 years until I stopped 7.5 years ago, and for three of the years after switching to a totally plant-based diet, I intensively studied nutrition and the myths that confuse people about it. We don't have a ton of good long-term research on vegan diets, but what we do have is very promising. It is true that some individuals might find they have too eat a few pieces of fish or eggs a month to be healthy, but most people who don't make it on a vegan diet fail because a) they don't eat a well balanced diet whole food diet with enough leafy greens, b) they don't make sure to get their B12, EPA/DHA or vitamin D, c) they just give in to the social pressure.
No offense to your doctor, but most doctors know very little about nutrition, and in a country like Argentina, even a master's program in nutrition will be slanted according to your nation's cultural food biases (as is true here). People here--especially men--run around claiming you need meat for this or that, but we have elite athletes performing at high levels on vegan diets and vegan bodybuilders, so when will they admit maybe all that meat isn't necessary?
Take care.
@@karlwheatley1244 Thank you so much for your message. You're right đđ€Ł Argentinians do love beef, except for me. I didn't know that beef was more consumed here than in the US. Just following that, using his free app, I've so far lost more than a couple of stone (over 13 to under 11 at 5'7.5"), and I feel much healthier. I am now mostly organic wholefoods based and cook most days. I do have days where I have a little junk vegan food (burgers/sausages/nuggets etc.), and at Christmas I had some vegan treats - though that was more following traditions rather than a necessity. Your body completely adjusts, veggies really do taste fab, and I can't imagine going back to my old ways. I would describe myself as plant-based because no doubt some dairy ends up in the occasional takeaway dish I enjoy, but I try to follow vegan food for environmental and health reasons.
One of the best talks Iâve ever listened to. I love hearing them talk shop in the beginning, then take the deep dive where Rich asks exactly what I want to know and Greger shines a much needed light on alll these confusing layers of food science. Wow.
Dr Greger is a National Treasure
HE (Dr.Gerger) IS A MODERN HERO !
GREAT GREAT WORK Dr Greger, Great interview Rich !
I mean, how can you not love this human?! Dr. Greger is such a pure hearted individual- this interview made me smile throughout. His energy and knowledge are astounding.
Based on pseudoscience, and money! Lap it up folks!
@@krisztinaschneider2561 He is easily one of the top ten nutrition experts in the world and his website simply reviews the results from thousands and thousands of studies. If the research evidence doesn't fit what you believe, maybe it's time to look more closely at your beliefs.
@@karlwheatley1244 he's full of shit for the bounce lol
âStart sellinâ that shit.â Nice one Rich đ!!!
Loved it! The enthusiasm in his eyes, the faith that provided with the necessary information people can make the smart choice for their health and mental state. I liked the part where he talks about the "coruption" behind diseases and poor health - one's profit from another's suffering.
I love Dr. Greger's energy and I also love Rich's ability to hone it into controlled bursts.
Vegan for 16 years. Like you, Ruch, Iâm not a breakfast person. I feel low energy if I eat breakfast. When fasting, I break the fasting later a day. I think itâs so individualized.
Live your podcasts. Thank you for your work and inspiration. You look amazing! đđđ€đđ
Loved this! The passion and reason Dr. Greger went into the medical profession is inspiring. I hope I can have just a small impact on others around me to see what a healthy life can be.
87:00 Thanks for bringing up Pritikin! He certainly turned all conventional medical beliefs 180 degrees! We truly stand on the shoulders of giants. He didn't have the science all correct, but he followed the available science and referenced everything which is admirable. And frankly most people would benefit from his original recommendations both diet and exercise.
This man changed my life!....both of them
There is so much to unpack in this podcast. Rich, you do an amazing job of getting your guests to share so much. Thank you!
Dr. Greger looks better than ever before! This guy is awesome! Thank you for inspiring me to become a vegan!
Ans he is so so busy
Dr Greger is amazing⊠donating and helping the worldâŠ. Beautiful!!!!!
one of the best podcast episodes by far
Dear lovely Dr. Greger!!!! We are blessed to have you!!! Much love đ±đđ€đ
One of the best Dr Gregor interviews Iâve heard. I listen to all of his content and this one was so fun. Thank you to Michael and to Rich for this :)
Eliminating sugar and processed foods led me to WFPB âŠ.helped me move off of RA meds ( still have RA but progression stopped). For me learning about the nutrient values of individual plant foods gave me huge motivation. Dr. Li is great on You Tube Master Class videos ( also he has several books) is great nutrition teacher. My RA induced heart arrhythmia disappeared with WFPB and learning about specific plant foods provide specific nutrients ( I.e. beets have positive impact on heart health)
I am 100% no processed , 90% no sugar and about 90% vegan, I do eat quality humane raised organic pastured eggs, very little whole fat grass fed plain Greek and and wild caught pacific salmon a few times a week. I have never been healthier
Without even trying I easily maintain my 115 pound weight
I love Dr Gregors enthusiasm
I really enjoy and appreciate Dr. Gregor! Thank you Rich for hosting such a wonderful session!!
Dr Greger is a superstar ;-)
...as in looking like a malnurished imbecile?
Krisztina Schneider I love the irony of calling someone an imbecile, when you canât even spell the word âmalnourished â correctly.
Dr Greger Is there a best compassionate and dedicated doctor on earth on the planet earth. Keep up the good work doctor!!!! đđđđđđđ
Dr.Greger, you are our hero.
Thank you for everything.
As a former sleep researcher, I can say the greatest irony of sleep research is that sleep researchers hardly ever sleep. đ
I can relate. I am an archivist. Donât look in my cabinets...
I worked as an accounting clerk but I never balance my checking account. And I asked my coworkers they said the same.
I'm a planner, plan for cities and regions, truly lousy at making plans for myself.
Lol!! I've heard my Cuban parents say a version of this as long as I can remember. They say, "En casa de herrero, cuchillo de palo" - which basically means "At the ironworkers house, they use wooden knives" đ .
@@denisea.9033 lol that's an awesome saying!
Thanks to the two of you. My two fav people. Please keep up the good works. All the best from Ireland
Now I have to go get some sorghum and black lentils to add to the moong beans, red lentils, brown lentils, yellow split peas and millet in the pantry. I now have to try cooking the millet in the instant pot.
I love Dr Greger. My friends think he is actually my primary care provider. My primary care doc is on board with his thinking though. He exercises daily (I have seen him in the gym at 5:30 AM) eats plant base and often prescribes exercise.
Dr.Gregor does more in 5 minutes than I have done in my entire life
Love the podcasts! Especially when the guest is Michael Gregor. God bless all those who are devoted in making world and lives better.
Dr Greger is my hero...love this guy! How not to die is my bible...fascinating book! Really recommend it guys!
What a thrill seeing Dr Greger with rich roll! Never clicked so fast! And liked before completing it.
Rich, the next time you get to talk with Dr. Greger, could you please ask him:
1. Which charities he supports with his book sales, and
2. What does he think/know/advise about diatomaceous earth?
Thank you sooo much! â€ïž
I pressed LIKE before the podcast started, that's how much I've been waiting for this.
Mind blown, again. Thank you both, again. Hugs, big giant smiling warm hugs. LIFE
Two of my favorite "health" (and that includes health of our soul) people in the same place at the same time. It's a gift!
WOW - thank you for the new timestamp feature!
