I appreciate they made the hospital stage modern looking and glossy ,usually when horror games do medical horror they focus on making everything gross , old and abandoned.
Can agree! Honestly- Modern hospitals are scarier in my opinion. They're so clean and devoid of personality it feels disconnected from everything. Abandoned hospitals have a cool vibe but they're grimey and feel more..connected for lack of better words.
I second this. The ultra sterile hospitals where everything smells like bleach and ammonia are much more unsettling.
Yeah, that's usually hard to pull off with some horror games, it's so we'll executed with DD
Yeah, hospitals are usually bright, clean, and sterile. Something that seems to go against the usual horror tropes. Daylight and brightness is more for thrillers than horror. It's a nice change when someone can pull it off.
Not to mention the Gold Watchers in the waiting room sipping tea at 4:23
That was one of my favorite parts of the level! And for Nightmare Mode/frenzied monsters they sure look chill

I cannot say enough how fitting it is that Tara Strong, the VA of Dr. Harleen Quinzel, voices the Reaper Nurses.
I love how they portrait the nurses too! and her voice is so perfect
All they need to say at the end of sentences to the male patients is, "Puddin'".
It's a nice little nod to Harley's nurse costume that she wore in Arkham Asylum (although she was voiced by her original Animated Series VA Arleen Sorkin in Asylum, Tara did not take over the role until Arkham City.)

If you think about it, this stage is full of symbolism:
The nurses (when you first arrive): the sexual pull Doug felt to his wife before their relationship soured.
The hospital itself: the severity of his wife's bipolar disorder and how demanding it becam.
The dialogue of the nurses and the messages on the walls: Doug's belief that his actions were done out of selfishness that he tells himself that all men share, but is just him trying to justify it.
This game is full of shards. Not just literally.

This is one of the best cutscenes in the game because Doug actually used his powers to absolutely juke the shit out of those Reaper Nurses
I think this level specifically was a real turning point for Doug as a character- he’s always known that his fear is exactly what these nightmares and what Malak wants, and now he’s decided that he’s not letting them have it.

Obviously, following your deadly sins theory, this level would be lust. But why would the gold watchers make a cameo? I think that's because lust and greed work together really well. They both get what they want and always want more. Greed has a lust for something, while lust has greed for something. They work hand in hand.

It’s a great theory but tbh it’s more than likely just an Easter egg, like with Agatha, the duckies, and the monkeys in the clown level
I love how expressive the Reaper Nurses look (I think covering the face is a good idea, not for story or anything, but because it lets the game Dev's do a lot more with the body and express emotions through hand/body movements and gestures)
As someone who is learning animation with body gestures, I like that little thing they do

I really love the nurses, the have a lot of character too them. I'm thinking the devs were going for the nurses too be representation of the woman Doug harmed and how some of them started too see other men because of it. That's why there are many things that say "all men are pigs" and "kill all men". These nurses are lost souls that went through absolute hell from men and it was do bad they couldn't move on from it.
The monsters in this game represent vices though.
If these psycho nurses are supposed to be victims, that'd be a really stupid way to portray people who have been through abuse. It's way more likely they just represent sexual sadism, women who were equally as selfish and lustful as Doug.

These are the first antagonists that I felt pity… knowing they represent the women Dough abused, also they are the first he actually fought back right? Like face to face. Another thing, they’re Reaper Nurses, reaper sounds close to rape…. So maybe it could be like a foreshadow to it
I feel bad for them too, in a sense, they had a lot of personality and are literally built around hating an entire gender! (I wonder if they ever ponder on why, or if they kinda just go with it)

Not gonna spoil anything for anyone else here, but with the last part of Chapter 4 you have your answer.
Just a little theory, considering the power we got was the magnet for this level, perhaps it could represent Doug luring in women, then abusing/harassing them.
A little theory on the nurses cloaking ability: it's representation of how women were invisible/mattered little to Doug until it was fatal/effected him greatly, like the investigation of his family's death and the abuse accusations.

The insight to Doug’s character in this chapter is insane. The voice acting on the nurses was terrifying too.
a few of thier voice lines that seemed both filler and insignificant might also have been some of the most lore adding, a lot of their pasive dialog was talking about Doug's life

So, I was thinking about the final chase with the ambulances. According to Google the top speed of an ambulance is about 155 mph (249 kilometers per hou). Assuming they are going at top speed, which makes sense considering the urgency, the Reaper Nurses and Matron are able to match that speed on rollerskates.

I thought I heard twilight sparkle in dark deception. Now instead of friendship is magic, it's rollerblade is death. Her voice fits perfectly with the reaper nurse. Love the hospital theme, design and the nurse were seductive but still scary as you don't personify them as human with their bagged face.

Honestly, yeah. He didn't throw hands or anything, but it's literally in a canon cutscene that he can now react fast enough to teleport through an incoming Nurse attack, blast down the one in front of him and then steamroll the next one. He could probably tangle with the Murder Monkeys easily now, and it seems to be a growing plot point that the more abilities he gains, the closer he gets to actually being able to _fight_ the monsters head on.
@@mrreyes5004 It’s possible the future final boss of this game is literally a battle, as the character you play as has more experiences on using the powers, to the point he can fight back and take all the shards back when he lost all of them.
The opening segment for Torment Therapy was actually really cool to me. I just love how you get to see the Reaper Nurses casually before they’re starting to kill you

With this new chapter they added more animation to Bierce; she’s starting to show more expression in movement compared to her calm demeanor in previous chapters. I appreciate the small things like this.

The only reason I thought to use primal fear was it looked like your character used it on it's own the first time... Tbh, I have to back up because I wasn't sure if it was your character or you. Haha. Also, I like how the character has grown in a way. At first, all he did was run. But during this boss fight, he actually fought. And on the way out, he fought the nurses again, and on his own. Not to mention using primal fear and teleport on his own.

The second stage of the level, the 'prison' reminds me of an old mental wards, all prison cells, close monitoring, torturous 'therapy'. Fits with the stage name as well
Knowing that Tammy was forcefully sent to a mental institution and that Doug's wife / Tammy's mother probably has been in one as well, that is definitely what it is. Doug getting a taste of his own medicine.
@@foongern1071 oh yeah! For a moment I forgot Tammy & her mother both had bipolar. Knowing how abusive her father was, I can definitely see Doug sending both her & her mother to an abusive psych ward because he didn't want to deal with them anymore.
I'm pretty sure here comes how Doug was harassing women. I told my sister that it is illegal for doctors, nurses, and nurses assistants to fall in love with the patients.

This level looks so awesome. I also like how the second level looks more like an asylum/psych ward area. (I'm writing this as I watch) I also love the challenges they add with invisible fast enemies
I’m going to be perfectly honest, Tara Strong did so well voicing the nurses, they have so much personality and are genuinely fun to listen to. They are also well designed with the paper bag over their heads, making the focus on their bodies as a homage of how Doug viewed women. Glowstick Entertainment really put so much great effort into this, even two years later
Lol I IMMEDIATELY recognized the voice of the nurse ! that’s our girl Tara Strong also known for her HARLEY QUINN voice and honestly that’s all I hear when the nurse talks lol it’s just Harley Quinn dressed up as a nurse 😂 they really got the best of the best for this chapter !

When you get your first needle at the final boss, Doug does use Primal Fear in the Cutscene, so the Game does make it clear that you had to use Primal Fear to stun them.
Damn, the way even enemies revealed cannot reveal them. Combined with the quiet hospital bgm, it makes this stage pretty tricky

A big part of me wants the story to be that malak actually had control off everything tru the whole game and only pretends to lose the levels we play, as a ploy to keep Bierce distracted to the actual plan he has to bring her down at the end or something.

Oh! Very Silent Hill! Protagonist in the first game made Pyramid Head AND the nurses. They represented his sexual frustration because it was due to his wife being in the hospital unable to...have relations with him. It feels like the same vibe of the nurses being a temptation because he saw them a lot but in a mental hospital instead and I'm sure he went to a few strip clubs/ladies of the night after his wife dead. Also going on so far all the levels are sins that they represent lust, obviously. Considering the only other female we know of is a mother bear it would have to be the nurses.
This level was insane no wonder it took so long to make chapter 4 and I bet the joy joy gang and mama bear’s levels are just as good, maybe even better
I think ur the first CZcamsr I watched that used multiple abilities instead of just speeding and tried to look for secrets (ik u said you’ll do it off camera but still) I appreciate that👍🏼
