The design of the Reaper Nurses is actually pretty smart, especially for a game where representation and symbolism are so important to it’s story. The somewhat *ahem* revealing uniform represents Doug’s lust and unclean attraction towards women, and the bags over their head shows that Doug didn’t exactly care who said women actually were, only about the physical appeal of them. Notice how their wearing BAGS, rather than masks, which I find to convey that it’s not that they’re trying to keep their identities concealed, it’s that in Doug’s eyes they HAVE no identity.

Dude, this was literally exactly what silent hill did. I don’t wanna accuse them of ripping it off, but the concepts and symbolism are entirely identical and I think we probably ought to hold off on praising originality at the very least.

I think the Matron Nurse was a handicapped woman who was abused by a caretaker. She was likely in a wheelchair, which is why she has wheels for feet. She’s possibly in charge both because she was older and her hatred might be more potent, because she knew she couldn’t get away. She gave the other nurses roller skates to give them what she didn’t have, a means to get away.

I personally believe that the syringes and traps are meant to be representative of Tammy's time in the hospital. Being a child, Tammy could very well have been afraid of hospitals and the process of checking vitals. (namely drawing blood) Maybe the hospital level is Doug being forced to live the nightmare he forced his daughter into because he couldn't accept anything less than perfection?

Tara Strong voices every female monster in chapter 4, save for the Matron, who does share Agatha's va, Kathryne Cressida.
I like how the Nurses are voiced. They didnt give them a generic "sexy dommy mommy" voice but opted to make them sound more cheerful and fun. Almost kinda goofy.

The E's note have a line that is really interesting, a part is wrote: "They told me that my soul checked all of their boxes...etc", does this mean E also have hated the men back when she is alive? If so is she related to Doug maybe his wife or daughter? Thats an intresting info to discuss.
The note from Doug's own journal says his wife was named Tammy though (I think)

I think the "checked box" refers to the treatment Doug was putting her and her daughter, since the nurses are the embodiment of all those woman who were abused/disrespected by men.

Something odd occured to me. Almost everytime you unlock a new power, it is related to the previous monsters you defeated. Agatha can teleport, you get the teleportation ability. The Gold Watchers always know where you are, even through walls, and you get Telepathy. The Dread Duckies can stun you, you get Primal Fear. The Reaper Nurses can dissapear, you get Vanish. I don't see how this would apply to Rush and Telekinesis, but 4 of 6 isn't a coïncidence anymore.
Chef Monkeys are really fast (Especially in monsters and mortals.) so that's where the speed boost can come from, and clown gremlins are capable of gathering other clowns to your location when they see you, like a magnet, which would be telekinesis.

Telekinesis is using your mind to make something happen. Doug uses them to make the shards come to him. Since one can use the mind to make anything happen, maybe that’s how the Clown Gremlins, especially the Goliath Clowns summon so many Clown Gremlins to go after Doug. Using Telekinesis they can make these many amount to chase after him.
If the Reaper Nurse hate men so much, I wonder how their relationship with Malock works? Is he not allowed to show up at the hospital, does he need to manifest as female around the Reapers, or is he just the one exception because he allows them to take out revenge on other men?
Just kinda makes this being the only area he doesn’t appear in all the more conspicuous?

@@accessdenied5615 I think they only go after mortal men. I guess according to them, the Gold Watchers were already punished by Malek, so he lets them do whatever they want to any other mortal men who come by the hospital.
I feel like they hold respect towards Malek because he doesn't act the way the men these nurses are after did. He doesn't treat them as possessions or anything and is rather respectful to the one on the phone based on the way she responds. So maybe they mainly just hold a grudge on men who do act that way? The nurses seem to be loyal to Malek just as the other are so maybe he gained their trust?

I like how easy it is to put sexist women in a video game and no one complains. Bet if the nurses were dudes who were abused by women and only killed women people would lose their shits and get this game taken down.
Honestly the Reaper Nurses have become my absolute favorite monster thus far
It was so interesting seeing how much more well organized they were in comparison to the other monsters, and the boss fight with the Matron felt so badass, plus the fact they actually act like a sanctuary to women who have been abused while punishing their abusers was a nice little detail to see
Mama Bear and the Joy Joy Gang were pretty great too but I just have this massive soft spot in my heart for these roller skating nurses
I feel Doug’s hatred of women started with his mom, who we know was abusive.
(Still doesn’t excuse his actions, but it is a possible explanation I feel.)
All in all, Doug’s character, I feel, is someone who was hurt, and then proceeded to hurt others.
Yet he’s someone who realized too little too late his mistakes, and wants to fix things.

Honestly, how did Doug even manage to get married to Elise without realizing any of this? Like how did this man not know that she was bipolar? Also yikes, he gets upset that she's "relying on therapy and pills" but is upset that she's bipolar. Elise really can't win can she? It'd be really nice to get some details from her perspective though, like I do genuinely wonder if she does have violent outbursts, or it's just Doug trying to justify how he treats her by making her out to be a monster. I also don't buy that he didn't intend to kill Tammy. Like are you really telling me that the same man who called his daughter "defective" wouldn't want her gone?

No, he really didn't intend to kill Tammy, only her mother. You can see in his dialogue after the Joy Joy Gang level that he intended to take Tammy with him.

As he grew up with an abusive mother he likely saw outburst and fits of aggression as normal for women thus didn’t know his wife was bipolar. Or she hid it well with pills and he found out after marriage when he found the pills or something.
I kinda find it funny how when one of them says “Lethal mercy is authorized” it’s literally a contradiction. Mercy means giving someone a second chance even if they don’t deserve it. So then what does lethal mercy really look like? Lol

I think by lethal mercy they mean a quick death. If you’re going to kill something doing it fast is considered merciful.
Mercy: compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one's power to punish or harm.
It doesn’t just mean giving a second a chance at forgiveness, but showing compassion via making the punishment easier (or lesser) on the person.
I'm starting to really think with this new reveal that E is Elise. Doug's wife. It would totally explain how come E checked all the boxes for the Reaper Nurses. Though my only question would be...Why did she end up THERE of all places? Why in that dark dimension? Why with Bierce?

@@fragesgw419 that does make sense. Plus it could explain why she doesn't remember too. The overdose of pills fucked with her memory. During the high she probably made the deal but as she came down she started to forget why she's there and who she was.

I love the "Ba-bye" of the Tara Strong, gave a lot of personality to the Reaper Nurses

Something that i think is weird is that "E" has been to all of this portals before Doug even to they are supposed to be made specifically for him; the reaper nurses are the woman he abused, and they don't attack "E" because she is a woman so it makes no sense that Bierce or Malak sent her there, and mama bear is a very clear representation of Doug's mother, even saying the same things his mother wrote in the letters. Were this portals already on place before Doug and then they adapt to their victims? I think it's something interesting to think about. (I hope it makes sense, English is not my first language)
I like to think that the domains arent made for Doug especifically and he only sees the one that would fit his sins.
The thing that is created for Doug is the pattern and way he crosses em, his path.
For example, a womanizer who killed their spouse to then hide and lie their way out, would see the monkeys, the ducks and the nurses, but not Agatha nor the clowns.

I think this E note kinda proves the theory that E is the "clever girl" that Bierce mentions. Although the anamatronic level also debunks the E is Doug's wife theory seeing that Malak needed to probe Doug's to find out who he is.
In a secret room in the Joy Joy level there is a file that reveals Doug's wife's name is Clarissa.
In 9:34, you can see Doug’s wife’s name in the prescription. “For Elise Houser”. She’s probably E.

@@bennettbasics9146 It might be both, according to the wiki her full name is Clarissa Elise Houser. How true that is, I don't know, but it is a possibility and would explain the apparent discrepancies regarding her name if her official name is Clarissa but she preferred to use Elise.
Chapter 4 is honestly a 10/10 chapter overall and the enemies are each really good. The Reaper Nurses are fun, Mama Bear is intimidating, and the Joy Joy Gang are really fun to run from. Also the boss designs are really good. Love the Matron, Mama Bear’s mutant form, and absolutely love the design and animation of Joy Kill
I also quite enjoyed how there were different parts in each level, instead of just being dropped immediately into long boring hallways you have to run through until you get all the shards

This is one of the few games where I was rooting for the main protagonist at first but now after seeing his backstory I'm kind of enjoying watching him suffer.
Personally I'm still rooting for him. It's fun watching him suffer because of who he was in life, but at least now he is trying to fix things now and truly regrets everything. Also it sounds like he didn't intend for his daughter to die. It sounds like he intended to take her with him based on his dialogue during the flashbacks.
I'm still routing for him. Based off what we know it seems like he wants to fix things with his wife and daughter both.
Don't get me wrong, any pity I might have had as far as the stuff he has to go through is gone. But now at least I am hoping he can redeem himself.

Tara Strong was a perfect choice to voice the Reaper Nurses. Dressing and acting like a sexy but killer nurse is definitely something Harley Quinn would do. She did in Batman Arkham Asylum

I was very surprised but very happy I correctly recognised Tara Strong's voice, I didn't expect this game to get her voice!
I dont know why but i have a deep gut feeling that E is Doug's wife. Because of the nickname he calls her. Elise get it. She must have taken a wrong turn in the afterlife somewhere after she died. Maybe it was her anger that took her there. Malak even mention it in E's note. "Isnt there someone you want to kill?" It's got to be her.
I love these monsters because of their intelligence. Every other monsters are just mindless killing machines while the reaper nurses are their own people with different opinions. Like they built a little civilization with their own laws in malak's realm

I think it’s meant to represent that they don’t want to hide their face, but that Doug hid it from himself, not caring about the face or woman he was abusing, placing a “bag” over their heads.

So I want to bring up something; What about the embodiment of all the men who were abused by a woman?(e.g wives, mothers) Would there be a a completely separate realm or is it basically just a copy of this one with the genders swapped around? Or do they just not go anywhere basically at all?
This isn't me saying "ugh why does it always gotta be men being the villains?!" or "Why do women always get the special treatment?!" but more of genuine curiosity. It's like the Killer Monkeys - do the unintentional killers go there as well? The ones who may have killed someone on accident? Or is it a separate place they go to?

Things that are missing is that the traps are exactly what a woman go through: the fat burning thing is the struggle women have to go every day just to be considered beautiful, the needles are like the plastic surgery some of them have to make so the men consider them attractive and finally all this leads women to mental health makes them insecure and crazy...The fat nurse represent the old woman who can't change anything because of the age, they can't stay slim anymore and their chest isn't perfect as it used to be...and maybe this is what Birce had to endure in her life before the contract, just to become an actress...

Plus she did say in the Joy Joy Land episode something about Monkey business in a hotel so makes sense why Doug sees the murder monkeys in the hotel.
I just want to hug these nurses, knowing what their backstory is now. They are charming despite being demons, and if they weren't gonna kill me I would have been fine keeping company.
My theory is that the joy joy gang are the souls of those who just wanted to entertain and sing but constantly got beaten for bad performances and that mama bear is the soul of a mom who wanted to care for kids but got furious when her kids constantly ignored and beaten her. This is just my theory and a 99% chance that this is not true.
I would also say that the Joy Joy Gang also have the souls of abused animals too.
I love that they hired Tara Strong for this role. Fits like a damn surgical glove

This makes me wonder, how would the Reaper Nurses react to a woman that flirts with them in a similar manner that a man (according to them) would? Also how would they react if they encounter a mother and son? Will they respect the mother's wishes to leave his son alone or will they torture him regardless? And if they were to do so, causing the mother to attacked them for the safety of her son, will they start acting aggressively to the mother as well?
Well it said that the nurses came from women who were abused and or mistreated by men... and about the son thing, I think they only go after men and not children
@@spoiledmilk5452, That's an interesting thought, though what if the son is adult, just barely at least? (like just recently turned 18). Also personally for the first part I imagine that they would be confused as hell.

For Mama Bear and the Trigger Teddies may I suggest an idea I had? The Trigger Teddies more than likely represent Tammy and her meltdowns (with them exploding and all), probably amongst other things but I came up with this yesterday and felt very smart

Im gonna assume Joy Joy Land is a place where Doug’s daughter loved to go but Doug saw the place as creepy dangerous place. Since the other chapters kinda represents Doug and his life.
@Emerald Block yes and no I guess because we find a lot of Dougs past in each level if you find the secrets. Plus some of the levels monster can correlate with Doug, like the duck level. The ducks are lairs just like Doug, Bercie and Doug can share some of the same nightmares in one way or an other.
