I like how Paul being unable to taste salt is foreshadowed through his choice of choosing to make desserts rather than savoury dishes

I really like the character of Paul . When he cried , I got emotional . He lost his sense of taste so he was ineligible to cook . It reminded me when I started to have breathing problems & couldn't continue dancing because it required stamina . I was glad that Paul & Sky worked together at the end .
So did you quit dancing?

Its also good to point out the last scene as he passes to his father the bowl of noodle, it is a show of respect in chinese familial culture to hand and receive items from and to your elderly with both hands as a sign of respect. It is a heartfelt and wholesome moment Sky has accepted his father as the man he is; a culinary god who couldn't give 2 damns about his own flesh and blood. Him finally showing the man he despises and ran away from his whole life, he finally stops talking back and show to his father with no words.
This is the bowl of noodle you left me for, I have reach this far to challenge you again. Please. Taste it.
In the end he didn't even need his father to hug or say he is proud of his son but just knowing he took the high road of letting go. And improved on the last thing he lacked as a cook, progressiveness. He knew his father will be proud of him. Because that noodle is the love language some chinese family share. In food. We rarely say I love you to each other but just cooking for someone with your heart and soul means everything. By comparison to Mountain's cold dish, Sky cooked the first warm meal for his father. I fckin cried watching that scene. And just wanna share this traditional conservative mindset chinese family tends to have.
Wow, thank you for sharing your observation. That’s very informative 😲
no he forfeited the competition because the noodles was when he left him, so by forfeiting the competition he is showing that was where they left off.

I love the ending of the competition with the bowl of noodles. It’s so clever and nice. They could have gone with the cliche were the one with no chance wins, but instead they made it unique. Very nice movie.
Its a common practice to end the movie with what started it, in the end he finally acknowledged skies talent, not really unique but still amazing
@@Gozieaaa It wasnt the most unexpected either, hearing about how he didnt do anything, I called he was going to make noodles.
Also, not to be the Grammar police, its “Sky’s”, not “Skies” as its a persons talent
it's great. a reminder that the goal isn't to win the tournament, but to prove a point.
I like the protagonist’s motivation here. He improved himself not to embarrass his father, but to make him recognize his skills and he did it well when he made his father eat his food
@@Top2BottomGaming Skys*
This had such a genuinely nice and wholesome ending. I loved how he served Ko the bowl of noddles and walked out. 😎
And his dad was just sitting there contentedly eating them with a smile on his face. :)
When I was young I found a cookbook full of recipes. I knew this cookbook will turn me into the greatest chef ever. "Imagine your dad leaving because of noodles" got me rolling on the floor🤣🤣😁😂
Its kinda funny how the rude customer from the start "threatened" Sky about a new 3 star restaurant opening opposite of Sky's family restaurant.
Like, how many of Sky's current customers can just 'switch' to the 3 stars restaurant to eat their expensive food daily and never come back to Sky's to eat? Its not even a competition, its basically whole ass different business field for different class of people. If he wants to threaten, at least say he will open a normal family restaurant. Even a fast food restaurant would work better.
If we talk about real business, sky's family restaurant is near imposible to defeat.
Fast food restaurant can't beat it, because people are willing to wait in a line to eat there, so it's not a matter of confinience. Family restaurant can't beat it, because sky's name alone. Fancy restaurant can't beat it, because price alone.
the new restaurant take all the fresh supplies.

One thing I find really unrealistic is in those kinds of competition they aren't gonna get the freedom to cook anything they want
Rather a certain kind of dish with more than 2-3 techniques should be followed by both the competitors
this is the only thing you found unrealistic ??

This whole movie would be boring and lame if it was realistic.
Let alone a father who left his son because he can’t cook a damn noodle
A noodle.
If it was really realistic, everything would be staged. The competition runners would make sure to monetize Sky and Mountain's relationship. They'd also ensure that Sky would win so that the audience can get a satisfying conclusion.

I like how both Paul and sky came together as a family to celebrate the Chinese new year.
People are claiming how this movie is unrealistic according to actual food shows and laws, but this wouldn't be half as good if it was written realistically.
Nevermind cooking techniques, it stopped being realistic the moment they introduced the king and queen of France. Went from drama to alternate history in a split second.

Old fashion way of viewing world history through chinese fairytales. Classically, france had a king and queen..

A. It's known for its 5star food
B. Obviously not true so no questioning/critique of the portrayal
