I find it weird that of all the SPUMM movies we've had so far, Kraven is the one they decide to go R-Rated for and not any of the other three movies that are about characters THAT FUCKING EAT PEOPLE.
Like the second Venom movie was called Let There Be Carnage.
I don't. Venom is a much more popular character. A lower rating casts a wider possible box office net. Simple.

@@SKJ_Kara If you estimate less return, you put less money in, which allows you to microtarget your demographic. Regardless, the likely source here isn't a decision but a reaction to Venom 2. Audiences wanted that to be darker so execs probably just pulled the edgy lever in their office and let this have an R rating.

The WB debt chat got me wondering which other big companies are massively in debt and if is this actually 'normal'. I found an article called 'most indebted companies 2022-23' and incredibly WB don't even make the top 10 with their measly $49.5 Billion dollars in the red, staggeringly The Volkswagen Group is $192 Billion in debt, I just don't understand how business works I guess...
The fact you almost definitely nailed exactly what’s going to happen in Kraven is wild.
Here's the thing, it's too expensive for WB to make good movies that people want to see, and sell tickets to them. So instead they would appreciate it if they don't make anything, but we pay them billions of dollars anyway. Hope that clears everything up.

According to the original appearance of Kraven the Hunter in issue 15 of the amazing spiderman. He gained his powers because he stole the potion of an African Witch Doctor.
This is revealed in one line and I assume it's never been technically disputed in any future comics because nobody remembers it.

I don't think the MCU needs a reboot yet because we still have at least decade's worth of FF and X-Men movies to look forward to, as well as more Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Dr. Strange. I think the one thing Marvel has going for it that DC doesn't is that they aren't completely reliant on 3 characters (Superman, Batman, or Wonder Woman) being the center of every storyline.
Simply put, Marvel has a deeper bench of characters with broad appeal.
A thousand times yes. No recasting or rebooting. Just keep digging through the catalog. Give us good movies about characters we barely know. That's how you keep this "super heroes era" going. (Still hoping for AvX too though!)
As a professionnal concept artist for movies whose job is quickly being damaged/replaced by AI in many studios the first Black Mirror episode was stressful haha but i am glad it make some noise like the secret invasion intro. I am sure most people will find it silly and far from reality but for some people like me it's almost the present. And the worst thing is artist didn't signed any agreement to get their work/life used to train AI like in the show but it didn't stop corporations from taking it anyway. I hope we will win our class action lawsuit against Stable Diffusion and Midjourney and i hope the writers strike will help push this big corporations AI away from art and implement securities for artists and viewers.
Is it possible the class action suit will prevent corporations from using independent artists work to train these A.I's? I truly hope it does, not an artist myself but it feels super unfair that a company could use the very work created by artists like yourself to end up putting those artists out of work. Seems like one of the scummiest moves a company could make against an entire workforce of hardworking individuals.

yes these company claim that using our work to make money is “fair use” which would make it legal and the goal of the lawsuit is to proove it’s not since copyright laws should protect us from this type of practice. There is also some laws being develop to force this AI companies to make the data they use transparent. If we can do that we can open them to even more lawsuit but it will be hard because they already have a ton of money and can easily lobby government.

It’s really sad hearing about the crunch, but it also didn’t surprise me. The movie looks beautiful, but there is no way they could make two movies within the time they did and not have a crunch I’m not excusing it but I am saying there’s no way they make a march release date happen unless they do even more so I’m not sure when it’s gonna come out.

The ending of Loch Henry broke my heart. The mum didnt apologize or attone she was just like, make sure everyone sees our work.
I just don't think people are going to the cinema as much anymore, and I'm not sure movie execs realise that or have adapted to it yet. I think its a combo of the pandemic, streaming, cost of living (at least here in the UK), and just general burn out from watching bad-mid movies.
I haven't gone back to the cinema since watching black widow and regretting it. I thought about going for John Wick 4, but eh the last one wasn't great. I thought about going for GOTG3, but eh it'll be on streaming. 5 years ago I'd have definitely gone to see Indiana Jones, but I won't now because eh it won't be that good. I'm usually a big fan of Nolan, but I won't see Oppenheimer because Tenet wasn't great and I can't be bothered to wreck my hearing again. The only thing I probably will go see is Mission Impossible because it is guaranteed to include Tom Cruise trying to kill himself, although again I will wait to see what the consensus is from early reviews.

I'm glad people seem to enjoy it but I just couldn't get through Secret Invasion.
Besides everyone repeating the same thing to Fury, it just seemed like no one really wanted to act.
The scene with Rhodey had a very obvious switch to ADR when it only shows the back of his head. I get that Fury is mentally messed up but there were multiple scenes of him just standing there looking at something with a blank face.
The worst part was Sonia/Sonya(?) who seemed to just be reading the lines off a cue card during her scenes
I knew Captain Marvel rewriting the Skrulls as a metaphor for Syrian Refugees was gonna be weird for the secret invasion stuff. Kinda wrote themselves into a corner
The way so many companies are being run (WB's being one of the worst) just does not give me much hope for entertainment outside of independent creators. Like even Spider-verse, a movie fill with so much passion, was created by churning out artists at an alarming rate. Still i can't wait for Sony's Pig Rolling Down a Hill movie.
1:50:05 😮 I JUST got around to watching Beau is Afraid yesterday! What a coincidence. Definitely worth watching, but I'll say that it's both long and at times unfortunately. That being said, it's easily the best movie I've watched in years. If you like Charlie Kauffman's movies, you should like this as it's definitely on the same wavelength as, like, Synecdoche New York or I'm Thinking of Ending Things.

Ex animator, 25ish years experience, Disney and Star Wars computer games bla bla... now a Disability Support Worker. The problem is that the nerdy cult like attraction to working in animation creates a buyer's market. I always knew there were hundreds of people who'd step over their dying grandmother to have my job, and so did my employers. Eventually, even a nice employer is going to lean into that to try and get an edge on their competitors.
I really think that an old Batman in a Batman Beyond with Michael Keaton would be fun. Batman Beyond loving kids are definitely the right age now to support such a movie.

See, the weirdest part of the massive WB debt is that WB didn't do it - it's the debt from the buyout by Discovery (basically, we're looking at the "Elon Musk does really stupid monetization because he needs to make billions to recoup the cost of Twitter"). Trashing stuff like nearly finished movies and tanking the streaming service are moves that will cause *more* debt, too, and should further be reviewed as fraud if they attempt to do so for tax purposes (either they are overvaluing how much they would've made off of the properties so they get a bigger tax break, or they wouldn't have trashed the films)

In the "Werewolf" episode. It was only later during the next episode that I realised that the actress must have hit a dog with her car. But when she gets out of her car she sees a human man lying on the ground. She goes over to help and that is when she got bit.

Also anecdotally, I went to the opening Friday night at 7pm to see The Flash, and there were 10 people in the theatre. I do believe the reserved dolby showings were actually booked up, but the standard viewing I went to had basically no one. To contrast a friend wanted to see spiderverse a week later, so I went on a Saturday at 2pm, and there were more people in the same theatre.

Dan Murrell did a pretty good breakdown of how the Secret Invasion credits were made and how AI was used, and after listening to that, I don't have a problem with the way AI was used developing those credits as it sounds like artists were involved and paid for their work. Also, as I watched the episode I liked the credits. I thought they looked pretty good. I am not in favour of AI replacing artists and I'm not interested in seeing films, hearing music or any of that stuff without creative human involvement.
I actually saw an installation at New York's Museum of Modern Art recently where an artist used an AI to randomly generated 3D patterns that were project on a wall in the museum and it looked amazing.

They should have done that Red Mirror episode as a choose your own adventure, like how Bandersnatch worked. There were fun and difficult decisions being made throughout the Demon episode for the whole thing. It was utterly perfect for it. The storyline for Bandersnatch wasn’t engaging. Didn’t feel the stakes to make me care what I did. Now imagine playing Demon the same way. So many interesting branches of storyline with that one.

@yellowfamilyfunny3065 Because it wasn't really Black Mirror except for episode 1. It was a bait and switch to whatever this Red Mirror thing is. Episode 3 was sort of a Black Mirror episode. But it just turned into "a normal person being turned into a psycho killer by serial killers". And ultimately pointless, as far as the "out of control tech" theme of Black Mirror goes. Also I wouldn't compare it to the last season. That was barely a season. And nothing memorable happened there either.
Since the idea of Keaton Batman Beyond is seemingly dead I am now suggesting that in 10 years we bring Affleck back to do Beyond and you can even get Cavill back as future superman if you want. Anyway if that falls through just try again with the next Batman.
Normalise greenlighting films not based on the performance of other films. I would love a Batman Beyond movie!

My piece of advice to Warner Bros. give the live action DC movies a break, and instead of spending 500+ million dollars on production and marketing for live action disasters (Joker and The Batman 2 outstanding), spend more time and money on your animated films that have been regularly rated positively but don't make money because you put them straight to streaming, the modern equivalent of direct to VHS 📼. They could triple or quadruple the budget on those movies and they would vastly improve the quality while also making money on them as the genre clearly makes money as long as you manage it correctly.
There's no chance they do this because, like the guys mention in the podcast, the board/shareholders would panic and they'd loose so much in the market because of that.

Everyone at WB is looking at it like they have the top guy in the comic book movie business. His last movie is still the top of the live action, non Spider-Man movies. The movies that are already made will do what they do, and Gunn will be fine until Superman releases. If Superman fails, they will have to do something different.
